  1. Hey Boggs.... Don't be getting Black Lung on us! LOL
  2. You could try that too. The problem with 1 large piece all the way around the body would be getting the corners smooth and crease free. as for glueing, you form the leather around the body wet, and hold it there until it dries. then trim your pickup holes, bridge mounting area and control holes. apply the glue to the body and probably a bit to the back of the leather also and put it back on. I would probably use a vacuum type of system to hold it one then until it the glue dries. Have you ever thought about getting ahold of J. Frog [the guy that did Lynch's] and asking him? he might tell you some tips...
  3. I have not covered a guitar with leather, but I have done leather work. My Suggestion Would be: -get a piece of leather large enough to cover the whole front of the body and the edges -get the leather wet and form it around the body and hold it until it dies, it will bend over the edges with no problem. -Trim the large front piece to the back edge of the sides -Cut a piece for the back and stitch the pieces together at the back edge after it is glued to the body I have formed knife sheathes like this with no problems... good luck and post pics...
  4. Fine work indeed! I stumbled onto this forum while looking to do Start inlays on a neck.. I want to make a Sambora clone of his single humbucker reverse headstock Fender with the Black hardware and floyd rose. That is outstanding! Great job
  5. Good Point.... I think I will leave me real Strat alone and look for a MIM or even better a MIJ strat to mod...

    Soldering

That is the whole point! LOL try to get some needlenose pliers to hold your wires with... One more thing... "The bigger the blob, the better the job!" Is NOT a good soldering motto!
  7. cool, thanks for the info! I was maybe thinkingof a change. After 11 years with this thing, I was thinking it could use a "Tone makeover". I really dig the mid 80's to late 80;s Clapton tone, that is why I was thinking about the Lace Sensors.
  8. I don't have one, but i can tell you how to do it: put an Ohm Meter across the outside leads of the pot and that will tell you the total resistance of the pot itself. According to this- Small Stone Schematic/Parts List the Pot is R21 - 1 M Happy Repairing!

    Soldering

If you need some help with Soldering, that is what I do for a living. Here is the standards we use: NASA WORKMANSHIP STANDARDS Just a couple things to remember: The DO's- 1. DO Let your soldering iron heat up for at least 10 minutes before you try to solder 2. DO Clean your wires and part leads with rubber alochol before soldering 3. DO put a bit of solder on the tip of the iron before touching it to the parts to be solder, this helps for heat transfer The DO NOT's 1. DO NOT use the very point of the iron, use the side of the tip... more surface area = better heat transfer 2. DO NOT move the iron around, hold it still on the joints 3. DO NOT move the parts around after the solder has flowed, but before it cools, this causes a "Cold Solder Joint" Remember- that Iron is about 500 degrees F - don't touch it or let the tip hit your kitchen table Remember- Your solder joint should look smooth and shiney after it cools, it it looks grey and grainy, it is a cold joint and should be reheated I hope this helps...
  10. Well, cash is always a problem. I can justify spending hundreds on mods to sit and play in my spare bedroom! LOL I think I will look for some Lace Sensor Golds, I think that is the ones the Clapton sig model used. I hope I can find some used... My '93 already has the TBX controler on the bridge tone, I just want a setup to give my Strat some more volume and balls... I thought a new pickguard with different pickups and a TBX in both TONE slots would be an interesting mod...
  11. mid-80's Eric Clapton.... when he started playing the Fender custom shop models... I would say Richie Sambora, but I am not routing my American Made Strat for a humbucker and a floyd Rose!
  12. Hey all, I have a '93 American Standard Strat which I like a lot. It has the TBX Tone control for the bridge pickup which really helps to give it more balls on teh bridge pickup. I have been considering building up a new pickguard to put into it and was wondering if anyone can give me their thoughts on the Lace Sensor Pickups. I am probably going to use a new pearloid pickguard, load in a TBX Tone into the bridge tone slot and maybe one into the middle/neck tone slot. and of course Volume and 5 way switch. I am going to keep my stock pickguard stock and just store it. But Any thoughts about Lace Sensors and or 2 TBX tone controls? Thanks
