  1. Apparently, the ends of the intonation adjustment screws are the issue as I was told specifically by the manufacturer of the righty I have that if I did try to disassemble and swap them, I would be almost assured of having buzz issues with it. I was told that by actually more than one manufacturer. I suspect the ends are swaged in some way so they stay in place. Make them loose, and I would expect the result they describe.
  2. Found a source for a nice wraparound bridge loaded for a lefty!!!! My friends at GraphTech are loading up a ResoMax in a lefty configuration for me and hopefully I have convinced them that there is a need for a lefty-friendly OEM manufacturer... If they market as a lefty-friendly company, I think that could pay dividends for them knowing how hard it is to find one. Here's a pic of their wraparound bridge.
  3. Biggest problem I am having is finding a lefty bridge... I found out from the manufacturer of the one I have and set up the neck pocket for that the saddles cannot be reversed to convert it to a lefty and they do not make it in a lefty configuration. Very frustrating at the moment...
  4. School and no funds have really slowed my work output on this, but it'll give you an idea of what it will look like. Only one seal coat on the koa top...
  5. Some great work by all, but T-Rex SERIOUSLY floats my boat!!!
  6. It is available at Oregon Wildwoods. Tell them Boggs from RockBeach Guitars in Rochester, NY told you about them! www.oregonwildwood.com
  7. Pistachio/Birdseye Maple lefty and Pistachio/Olivewood righty...
  8. The neck is being built now and it will be birdseye maple with a pistatio fingerboard. Progress to date... Not finish sanded by any stretch of the imagination, but will give you a good idea what it will look like.
  9. ...except for the fact that school is now back in session and physical therapy is still continuing leaving little time... I picked up an inexpensive fully wired Fender Stratocaster pickguard from GFS to see how it would fit the CamelBack CB-II... While it is not exact, it would really take very little to convert the lower waistline where the controls are on a right-handed guitar, and that portion ONLY from an outside dimension to follow the contours of the pickguard very nicely to create a solid body CB-III pickguard guitar! The horns would need essentially zero changes at all. The portion on the upper side of the guitar would not change. The cutout feature would not need to be changed... This is pretty exciting, actually, as it would open up to the other 97% of the guitar market and be cheaper to produce (potentially). It would bring the traditionalists something they can feel comfortable with while still retaining the RockBeach identity and ergonomic features... Wait 'till you see how little would need to be done! Also, I have an alternative contour pattern for the Cicada (Yes, I am going to start doing contour body Cicadas) which would allow for the use of the Telecaster control plate for front mounting of the controls... All good stuff. A test version 1/2 scale could be done on the back side of the little model Woodchuck, my CNC guy provided of the first contour actually. I made a paper 1/2 scale control plate to show Chuck how it would fit and marked the back to show a suggested contour... Also, tomorrow, Melvin Henderson who is a world touring jazz guitarist is coming over to the house to audition some guitars... Sometime, amidst all of this, I have to get my mouth repaired... Both tooth posts on the lower lateral incisors of my 4-tooth incisor bridge broke off last night biting into an apple. I am now missing my lower 4 front teeth... Of course it has to happen on a holiday weekend and now that school is in session again... Absences cannot be tolerated as I am taking an accelerated surgical technology course.
  10. Well, I gave it to madhattr88. Really tough to choose though. I gave Hellcat a close second as the amount of detail work was phenomenal. It was the overall shape of build number 6 that closed the deal for me. It just flowed. Hat's off to all of the builders this month though... You all are just SICK GOOD!
  11. For those of you in the Rochester, NY area during the week of June 10-18, the Rochester International Jazz Festival will be in full swing! Here is a nice link to a blog of events during the festival week which in itself has a link to the RIJF home page... http://www.jazzrochester.com/rochester_international_jazz_festival/ I (Boggs from RockBeach Guitars) will be one of 4 luthiers from the Rochester area who will be displaying our creations at the Rochester Plaza Hotel in the lobby area through the evenings (except Saturdays where the hotel has scheduling conflicts and the lobby will not be accessible for displays) starting at about 10:00pm before the open jam sessions begin there at the adjoining bar/bistro/stage. The others will be on some of the evenings and they are Lehmann Stringed Instruments, Bruton Stringworks, and BLDesign (exotic basses). Instruments will be able to be played as well as viewed. Come to enjoy the festivities and say "Hello!" and see what Rochester has to offer in lutherie! Cheers!
  12. nothing ironic about it - i always try to be constructive, if you can look back and any times i may have said i did not like this body shape i am sure you will also find suggestions i may have made about it too. You will notice i aim to do the same with everybody, but i know you always think its just aimed at you because people dont find your body shapes aesthetically pleasing. well you keep entering them and i may get bored of typing 'the shape isnt pleasing to my eye' every month, so i also aim to be constructive in different ways since you have previously explained and demonstrated your reasons for the shape. But yes, they could be described as "weird", although i would prefer the word "unconventional" for the lack of negative implications! (but yes, it does cost you votes) so lets repeat: no problem with the centre stripes at all! no real problems with any of it - but i did want to question the use of sapwood 'wings' this time as being a step too far as far as the shape was concerned when combined with the centre stripes, just as part of the usual criticism i give to all the entries (occasionally i cant find anything to criticise!). Means nothing at the end of the day, i wont get to chance to own most of the guitars in these threads - but i do comment the way i do because when i have entered this thing real feedback meant more to me than repeated "wow, thats great" comments! You are in no way "penalised" by the voters in this competition - and definitely not in my voting and commenting habits! Sorry, man... I was trying to be light hearted in this... Of course, I appreciate honesty in reviewing and that you took so much time in being thoughtful about it. Y'all feel what you feel. Comedy (even somewhat weakly executed) is one of the ways I deal with some of the disappointment of continuously coming in last in these polls. It ain't gonna stop me from posting my efforts. My weaning in guitars came from acoustics. It's probably why I lean towards the "sandwich" construction because the tone of these is exquisite. That cannot come across in pictures. Nor can the edge lamination of various thicknesses and grain structures of these woods and the difficulty of construction come through in pictures. This is probably the best sounding guitar I have produced to date and by far the most challenging build. I just have to accept that unless you lean more traditionally, you will not get votes. It is my choice and I will try and avoid my comedic replies in the future that, well, diminish my genuine appreciation for well thought and well wished comments.
  13. WezV... It is not a two-tone top and back. It's 4 different woods so 4 different tones... You musta REALLY hated it then! thats 5 tone then - i was talking about the bubinga sapwood. so bubinga sapwood, bubinga, spruce, mahogany, and walnut. 5 different colour tones! anyway - i like stripes in the middle, big fan of through necks so it looking like that isnt a problem for me. I also usually like a bit of sapwood, but it may be that with the middle stripes the combined look tales away from the shape for me The piece of bubinga I had was simply not wide enough to use for a guitar on its own so that was my way of being creative to build something quite unique with it. Ironic how it used to be that people thought my body shapes were "wierd" and now I get "penalized" because it takes away from it... HA!! Next month, I am building another one with what I had left of that bubinga and it will incorporate that, spruce, wenge, and mahogany so get your welding mask out!
  14. This design is based on a customer request. It is the first one. I am doing it somewhat like I did the last Cicada with an edge-laminated bubinga, spruce, wenge and mahogany top and back on a tulip poplar chambered skeleton. Custom wind (not off-the-shelf) DiMarzio mini 'buckers will liven it. Custom mahogany bezels will hold them. Here are some pics of progress and there will be a video of the neck pocket being routed at the end. The pocket is still being routed in its extened length in the video. It will be trimmed at the end. http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish9s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish10s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish11s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish12s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish13s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish14s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish15s.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/boggs.com/The_Catfish/Catfish16s.jpg
  15. In the continuing to not vote for myself vein, I was so close to voting for hufschmid, but then SwedishLuthier went and sniped him... Very few entries this month, but REALLY high quality all! WezV... It is not a two-tone top and back. It's 4 different woods so 4 different tones... You musta REALLY hated it then! :D
  16. Thanks! Just had the player over to the house to return his Tele all set up (the one that played like a truck)... While he was here, I let him play my entire herd... He is completely at a loss as to why I am not selling well... His problem after playing them all is that now he's, according to his own words, confused because he loves every one of them for different reasons... He loved every setup (including on his), and tells me that I have to be the best kept secret in town... I, after thanking him of course, told him that when you are paycheck-to-paycheck and have no... and I do mean mo money for promoting, it's easy to be a secret! He's vowed to do all he can to change that, and I believe him. It was a good day at the RockBeach household!
  17. There is an icon next to the address bar that looks like a torn sheet of paper that is for "compatability view." Click on that and you should be okay.
  18. Welcome to the board and to America, for that matter! Where are you located now, thearabianmage?
  19. Thanks. I want them to have that kind of home-made vibe or feel. It's kind of like our house. It has enough "luxury" in it, but you fit in it like a warm cottage... That is kind of what I want to capture in the guitars. I want them to be played, not just looked at.
  20. The Coupes put on a great show. You cannot NOT have a good time! The whole place and everyone in it was having a BLAST!
