  1. Need some opinions here -- My guitar will have a maple neck (neck-thru), and a cherry body. Do you think chrome hardware or black hardware would look better? Of course, the body won't be painted (unless I really mess something up). also, deep-dish, or regular style jack plate? I can't decide. (it will be a strat-ish style body) and on a side note, I would like to say that this forum is *awesome*. When I built my last (first) guitar, I didn't know about it; so I had to gather info by googling. It's been a great resource for researching my second guitar. So...Thanks!
  2. Yeah, I prefer strings close to the body, so I think I am going to go with the strat style. I was just curious as to whether there were any tonal differences, or mechanical differences worth noting.
  3. Given the choice, which bridge would you choose; and for what reasons? I was first leaning toward the TOM because they seem like a good non-trem solution, and I just wondered if the strat-style non-trem would offer the same quality as far as tone, durability, ease of use, etc. (I have never even played a non-tremolo guitar; let alone had the chance to compare TOM to strat style.) Anywho, I think I'm leaning toward the strat-style now, so a little push to one side or the other will help. Here are the two bridges I'm trying to choose from: TOM Bridge Strat-style non-trem With the strat-style, you won't have to have as much of a neck angle, right? (not the peghead angle, the actual neck angle) Plus, I would only have to buy ferrules for the back side, lol. Thanks for any help those of you seasoned non-trem players can offer.
  4. Hello everyone, new member here! I'm about to start on building my second guitar (from scratch, of course..you won't find any kits here, heh). I was planning on using a TOM bridge, and string-thru design. I was wondering if it would be wise to not use string ferrules on the top side of the guitar. As I have never even held nor seen a guitar with string-thru/TOM bridge, I was curious as to how it would look, and how it would affect the mechanics of the guitar. Of course, I plan on beveling a slot into the hole for the strings, if you see what I mean. Also, this guitar will be neck-thru. If I recess the neck blank (where it meets the body), and laminate the "wings" lower than would be without the recess, I won't need a neck 'angle' correct? As the bridge will be recessed, so to speak. Again, if this is clear to you. Something else I wondered is where, exactly, do you ground your electronics without a trem bridge. You can't just drill through the guitar and solder to the bridge. I thought I would maybe connect the ground to one of the string ferrules? Hope this was clear enough for you guys. Thanks if you can help.
