  1. Thanks for all the replies! I got some epoxy wood filler, i had to go to Lowes because there is no home depot around me, I got Elmers brand 2-part epoxy and it seems to be working well its solid but I just need it for surface gouges right now, it doesn't shrink and its supposed to be stain able, I'm about to go sand it and see how it holds up, ill let everyone know how it goes.
  2. hey, I've done a few searches on the matter of using body/ wood filler and i know using neither is ideal in many people's eyes, but I'm not to concerned with it because the guitar is getting a solid color. but anyway, I couldn't find any specific brands of filler that people have had success with. i remember seeing that Minwax 2 part wood filler is a pretty good product, but any others? how about body filler? there are so many brands and some are expensive I'd hate to buy something that wont work well for me. sorry for the lengthy post but any feedback is greatly appreciated. thanks! o yea, i found this stuff on ebay, what do you think of it?wood filler it just got my attention because its for maple/alder which is what the guitar is.
  3. cool concept, very different, but cool. when you first said reversed i cringed a little haha, but it actually looks pretty awesome!
  4. coming a long nicely, i like the side markers too!
  5. good start, should be a cool project. just wondering, are you gonna cut the body out with the wood grain perpendicular to the body's center line like in the picture, or parallel?
  6. well see the whole thing is, he bought the body off of ebay, just the body, and he got a reverse esp neck that he was going to modify for a floyd rose nut. The neck didnt work out so we thought maybe we could make a neck through guitar out of the body instead. I might let him use the neck through neck that i got made for my explorer project and seeing as how we dont have a router template for that style body (which wouldn't really be necessary i guess) to make it from scratch, and we already have the bolt on body blank, it seemed like a good idea.
  7. Hey guys, my brother is working on a project, a neck thru dean ml. And he was wondering if he would be able to use a body from this guitar http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/p...d0d2e4896d2.jpg by cutting it in half to accomidate for the neck and then make all the necessary routes and stuff. We have been thinking it out for a while but we aren't sure of any complications that might arise. Thanks.
  8. thanks that was the link i was looking for, i already emailed him with some questions, now i just need the 265 clams haha but they look well worth it especially for all the things he does for no additional cost.
  9. ahh ok, thanks. my other problem is that the wood after the fret board is a little to short to make an explorer so i might let my bro use it for an upcoming project, and ill be on the hunt again for a neck blank. there was a website someone posted a link to, they did customs set necks and neck thru designs, they seemed really nice but i cant find the link anywhere.
  10. hmm thats interesting, thanks a lot. i just emailed him questioning about it so maybe its not so bad after all.
  11. thanks a bunch mike, that was very helpful, i need to keep that in mind, but as far as the neck i think im going to try to return it and get my money back because i told him i wanted 24.75 and i dont know if i like the idea of a 24.5 scale guitar very much haha.
  12. ok, i just got a neck thru blank made for me, it was supposed to be 24.75" scale length. i got it on monday, today i measured for the scale length to mock up my bridge and from the nut to the 12th fret im getting 12.25" or 12 1/4" this wont be a problem as long as my bridge is in the correct spot right (12.25" from the 12th fret)? ill just have a little shorter scale?thanks.
  13. Hey guys, I just want to do a simple black paint job on an upcoming project and I was looking at the stewmac black aerosol lacquer and I'm wondering if anyone has ever used it and what you think of it? Any other suggestions of what to use to get a decent finish? I don't have a compressor for spraying so thats out. Thanks a lot.
  14. yes! thats what i was talking about, thanks a lot!
