Hey all and a belated Happy New Year. I am interested in doing this tiger eye finish on my current build and was wondering if anyone has obtained this look. Link http://www.driskillguitars.com/Byron/Galle...ages/tiger3.htm . Any suggestions on the staining proicedure would be greatly appreciated .

I'm going to order the chrome rings from Stew Mac and see how they look. In the mean time I will make a set out of the walnut. Xanthus, good idea with the routing method I hadn't thought of that. Once again, thanks to all for the input!!!

Guys, Thanks for the kind words and constructive criticisim. Kenny, I used the Stew Mac blue dye mixed with alcohol. I just mixed it a few shades darker than the color I wanted, then I hit it with some 0000 steel wool to expose the grain and repeated as necessary. Xanthus, I tried to follow the shape of the body with the headstock design. I will be changing the inlay for the next build, I'm thinking staying with the celt design but encasing it in a circle to make the inlay easier. I see what your'e saying about the pickup rings, I may just make a set out of walnut and see how that looks. I've got a ton to learn but someday I would love to acually be able to sell a guitar, however, I would need to perfect my work first and that's going to take me quite some time.

Hey All, I screwed up my original first build (bad neck angle), so I moved on to this one. It's got a black walnut body, maple top, ebony fret board, Schaller bridge and tuners, Duncan hot rodded humbuckers and a 24 fret neck.

Thanks for the input. Geo, the fingerboard is rosewood.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the kind words. Xanthus I agree, I will be taking the top horn down a bit. I've definatley made a number of mistakes , but I learned some valuable lessons. Seems I have to learn the hard way for it to sink in and really grasp an understanding. The pick ups should be in today, they are Seymour Duncans (59 and JB), wired with a 3 position LP configuration, Schaller tuners and 1 piece bridge. I will be staining the top with a medium brown alcohol based dye and am considering trying to spray the KTM-9 water based laquer. I only have a small pancake compressor and am wondering if it will be sufficient to do the spraying properly. I appreciate any input, negative or positive as this is a learning experience for me. Hi all, I have been reading books and trolling this site for the past several months. I have to thank you all for sharing your knowledge. This is my first try at building a guitar and this is what I have so far. My only regret is using curly redwood for the top, I didn't realize that it was so soft.
