  1. The two that I had were S270's (or something like that). Nothing like a thunder/firebird. Didnt know, just looks a bit big for a guitar body. As for basswood, Im not sure....I would actually like to go Mahogony but, its my first guitar building attempt and I dont want to screw that up, plus I have a certain sound in my head that I want...and I think plywood will achieve it. -E.
  2. My guess with the cutter thing is...You wouldnt be able to melt Pearl or Abalone down and pour it into a mould right? If so....I'd be all for that. You would get a nice design every time..may not be pretty though. If its with something that isnt supposed to be pretty on the other hand...plastic, etc...then...maybe that would work? -E.
  3. Hello, as you know I am a new face on the boards, but Ive hung out long enough to see people know what they're talking about here. That said, I am going to TRY to build a Firebird copy, but all I have is a Thunderbird (the bass version). Does anyone here know what the size difference (if any) is with these two? I have had two Epiphones before (guitar and bass version of each) that was identical in size, does this apply to these as well? I know that there will be obvious differences such as neck pocket size, pickup routings, scale, etc. My "Purple-saurus" guitar will hopefully turn out nicely with: 3 to a side Gibson style tuning pegs, Purple Metallic finish with white bindings on the body and neck. White stripes where the raised part of the body is supposed to be. One piece bridge (LP Jr style). 2 P-90s, Vol. and a Blend knob (as a panning toggle). Im sure there will be other stuff added, and Ill try to get pics if people want to see the small MSPaint drawing Im doing of this guitar. Hopefully with help, it will rock! Oh, and the body will be made of (yeah yeah) plywood.....Hey, I like the sound of my Univox Hiflier and it's made of plywood so...yeah. -E.
