  1. Man, im still suprised to hear people say they dont like the sound of new strings. I cant imagine how someone could like old strings better than new ones, unless you are playing a style/song that calls for very dull/dark tone. I feel that new strings give so much more clarity, response and sustain! Oh well, we are all different. (btw - elixers = )
  2. I really dont think they kill the harmonics at all. 250K pots just warm up the sound a little b/c they reduce some high frequencies a little, but it wont cut off the harmonics. They might not scream as wildly though.
  3. Oh I tried that yeah... I had plugged it (guitar) into the amp and then the rest through the loop jacks.... believe me ive tried everything I can think of. The online manual said to actually plug the instrument into the midiverb... so I tried that with the same results ive been getting. Does anyone else have this unit? I mean.. its really pissing me off! I have a huge 24 channel peavey mixer coming to me soon, so maybe when that gets here Ill try to hook it up through that.
  4. Thanks lovekraft.. That link was to a midiverb 4 manual, but I had already looked at the midiverb 2 manual online and I did what it said to no avail. I'm plugging my guitar into the L input jack, and plugging the amp into the unit's L output jack. Nothing happens but some buzz and VERY little dry sound through the amp. Then I tried it in all possible combinations through the effects loop and nothing worked. Im beginning to think its broken, since it is pretty old.. I might take it to a music shop and see if they can get it working.
  5. Well crap... I tried all the different combinations of the inputs and all I get is ALOT of buzzing and almost negligible sound. It might just be a bad unit.. So I dunno whats going on. Oh well, any help would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks, Ill try that... But I didnt get the manual for it... I was just given the bare unit with nothing else. Thanks again. Also, there are L and R in's and L and R outs... but just 2 jacks for the effects loop obviously... so does it matter if I just do L in and L out? Or is what I am saying incomprehensible!?!?!?!
  7. I was given an alesis midiverb 2 and I have no clue how to connect it to my amp.... I tried plugging a cable into the defeat jack in the back of the unit and then connecting that to my preamp out jack of my amp... nothing happened. Then tried it through the effects loop w/no luck.. Please help!! What am I missing? There are L and R input and output jacks and also midi jacks too.. so what do I to?? I really need a quick response, b/c the music shop near me closes soon and I wanna get there tonight if I can to pick up what I need. Thanks. Edit: the title should say not sure "how" to set it up....

  9. I have a peavey supreme head and it is great. Their transtube technology is really good stuff.
  10. I have a zoom 707 and its been working great for me... Ive had it for about4 years now (or so..) and ive gotten some great sounds out of it... not top quality, but darn good for what its worth. The 707 offers alot of control over whatever you are doing, and its very easy to mess around with once you learn it all. Im definitely upgrading soon though... I was thinking maybe a digitech gnx2 or maybe a v-amp2/pro.... there are so many out there i really need to look around and test them all out.
  11. Its in the neck and im guesstimating that its about 2/3 inch from the strings... i really like it now.
  12. Nope, I'm in the northern outskirts of Atlanta, Ga. Thanks anyway!
  13. That is incredible... talk about originality! Man I'd sell my.... dog... for that thing! Really though, I cant imagine how much fun it would be to make something that neat.
  14. Its an RG 320 dx... so im pretty sure it has one of the infamous crap floyds... But I do have to say that overall I am VERY pleased with the guitar... it plays super smooth and with the new pickup it just sounds great.. Its been working well for me up until these problems... but Im gonna take it to this shop I know of and have the guy just set it all up from scratch and have a good look at it. (On a side note, apparently this guy Ted that owns this shop I speak of went to school with John Pretrucci and knew him a little bit.) Im tired of messing with it. Although, working on it so much these past few days has really helped me understand how it works and how to set it up, which is pretty cool. Thanks for all your input, Wes.
  15. wait, you have to loosen the strings before you can adjust the action from the bridge????? Thats a pain in the butt.... Ive never had any of this problem before.. and ive changed the strings quite a few times. I dont know why the intonation went out of whack... its still not right.. I think im gonna take it to a shop to have the saddles checked out..
  16. :Update: Well I just moved the string over a bit in the saddle and that seemed to remedy the problem... FL's are so damn tedious... gah.. Right when I FINALLY got it all in tune (still cant get the intonation right... im beyond frustrated) I pull a little bend on the high E and the string breaks at the saddle (for the 3rd or so time tonight). I GIVE UP. Im probably going to take a bat to this floyd rose sonofa b and put a tune-o-matic in somehow well not really... but it would be nice.
  17. Yeah the last time I changed strings I had a complete brain fart and took them all off at once... I dont know why... Anyway Im having some crazy trouble with my bridge.... Somehow it has seemed to rotate clockwise about 2 millimeters... so the high E saddle is not pointing directly straight up the neck... its like ever so slightly to the right now, so the string vibrates against the side of the little groove its in and is causing some crazy trouble (buzzing) for that string. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS HAPPENED since the bridge is just unmovable like that... the 2 poles that hold the bridge in place (that you can turn to raise/lower the bridge) are unmovable... so I dont know how in the hell the bridge rotated. The other strings seem to be unaffected, but the damn high E is killin me. And there is no obvious solution that jumps out at me. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. if you're talking about the ball on the end of the string... thats how its always done... but that may not be what you're talking about...
  19. Thanks for the input... never thought of putting the ball ends by the tuners --- and I usually use a small size 2-1 input jack adaptor to hold the bridge in place, I just wondered if anyone had other ways of doing things easier - thanks again
  20. Does anyone know if its possible to string a FL bridge without having to cut the ball end off the string? I havent tried it, but it seems like if it were possible, it would give more stability maybe? I am just sick of the tediousness of re-stringing my guitar... I really want a tune-o-matic type brige... Any tips on how to reduce the pain of equalizing the tension on the bridge when you take strings off and such?
  21. Yeah I know exactly what you mean... Ive found some cool sounds with the air norton... Im pretty happy with it.
  22. Perhaps you have a rough spot on your bridge saddles. Maybe you should look into buying some graphtech saddles. Graphtech eh? I'll look into that, thanks.
  23. Yeah and Im kind pissed at my guitar... I cant for the life of me get the intonation right, and the stupid bridge keeps snapping strings when I tighten the little screw that holds the end of the string in... I cant win. I cant win.... and its not like I havent done this before. I dunno whats up, this damn air norton must be bad luck, plus I cant really even tell much of a difference in tone w/it
  24. Yeah the norton is pretty fat, and phat... har har.. Im thinking of getting either a tone zone or a steve's special for bridge... but that will come later. Do those resistor things you solder to the pots make a big difference? Im thinking of getting one, are they easy to install, like just hook em to the tone knob? Edit: What exactly do those SPDT things do? Are they for selecting different PU combo's?
  25. Well my air norton came today and I finally got it all installed correctly, its a miracle, I didnt think I could do it! So anyway, I cant really tell all that much difference... I can tell its clearer and more defined/articulated than my stock ibanez (from an rg320dx)... but does it take time to really tell all the differences? I heard that you really wont be able to hear a whole lot of difference right away, but the more you play it, the better the change will sound to you. I hope that's right... anyone else experience something similar???
