same here on the copy and paste. anyway. I can understand the hum now somewhat. I didn't know that they split the coils like that inside a 2 coil soapbar. seen it on larger single coils for 5'ers and 6'ers. but not the soapbars. so is there any way to add extra grounding or something to the pups to fix this? or is it just something I'll have to live with and always play with the blend knob centered? thanks for that review find

Yeah. No. dual (neck/bridge) yamaha 2 coil soapbars. haven't pulled the preamp out yet but I did get in there to check for lose/shorted wires. none found. hope to find something when I pull it apart. it has to be a ground somewhere in there.

just got a yamaha RBXJM bass. active electronics. the problem is, when the pup blend knob is centered the bass is good to go and dead quite, start to pan in either direction and what sounds like a ground hum starts to come through. hum is equal when panned to either side. 1/4" input needs to be replaced for starters as it cuts in and out with some movement. but can't track down this hum...

this is true, thats why I opted for a PA system as a bass amp instead of a regular bass amp... finished the rig last month, its a bone crusher. Actually they lack alot of soul...I ordered one back at that time....it was dead as Prince's fashion sense... +1 I've had a Steinberger since 1989 and I almost never play it anymore. I never really liked the EMGs they put in them either. They're just as soul-less. Just as importantly, their neck is very narrow. He told you what experience he had, then gave you his opinion. I DO have esperience with graphite necks. $300+ is way overpriced and the tone is sterile. yup...said that before right here... No..those are good strings...and they are no uglier than any other bass string.. sometimes...mostly I think I have not met a bass player yet that is up to my standards...you have not changed my opinion of them either If I were you,I would buy the cheapest one of those basses,as basses really don't matter tonewise anyway....that is why we guitarists turn the volume of you guys down....It really IS the best thing since you guys rarely know what key the song is in anyway. Oh yeah...we are familiar with Moses and with the concept of graphite necks.I looked carefully at their products years ago,when all they had on site was necks,no instruments....and I discarded the idea years ago too. I see from visiting the site nothing has changed and the prices have not gone down on the necks...and they are still ugly. no I have not made up my mind, as I have run up on 3 different deals for basses in the past 2 weeks. I'm trying to make a choice as I don't have the money to buy all 3,,LOL 1st is a west germany 02 Warwick corvette std fretless 4 string I found for $500. 2nd is an 07 RIC 4003 played maybe twice as I know the guy selling it, $1000.. and last is this Moses fretless jazz bass which the price is up in the air at the moment, but looking like it could be had for around $300-$500... all 3 are great deals money wise.. but I do like the Moses necks as I did play one before....overpriced neck?? maybe but still in line with a new usa fender jazz neck price wise.. yes I wanted opinions from people who might have been lucky enough to play one of the Moses built guitars. I guess thats where the use of the word "review" would come in. I mean I could go to any chat room and hear from 1000+ people who have clicked on their web page and said, "over priced" not worth it..... is that the extent of your Moses facts, a web site???? I guess Rotosound bass strings would be out of the question for you also as they tent to run 30% higher then the aveage string price,,,lol what about Gibson, Hamer, RIC, Fender, and on and on,,, are all these overpriced wood products just not up to your standards??? LOL

well, no more over priced then most other companies. gibson, I know all about over priced basses as I have 2 Warwicks,, lol Moses guitars are over priced as they are hard to come by. they don't make them for retail sale, customs only. I've played for 30+ years and never have seen one in person. aesthetics are truely in the eye of the beholder,,, a jazz bass is a jazz bass no matter who makes it as far as looks go. but what appeals to most are the little things that are done. a neck through jazz is rare for anyone to build. built it out of walnut adds more. the Bartolini's don't hurt either...LOL I can't believe more people here are not familar with the moses products. they have been around for a long time. their used necks sell for $$$ on ebay if your lucky enough to even get a chance to bid on them.

sounds odd but could be done, why? is a good question. "maybe" looking for a little more sustain??? maybe.. if thats the case I would convert it to a string through the body first, before taking on a set neck conversion..

I'm aware of Moses graphite necks but I have never even seen a Moses built guitar before. I knew they made them but never see them. So does anyone here know about their guitars and basses. good quality???? the reason I ask is that I found a Moses fretless jazz bass NT in an auction. so I'm wanting to get some review of them. I have decided to go with a dye job on my Hamer Blitz bass custom restore project.. also I have decided to take the bass to a whole new world. I will convert it to an 8 string bass,, 2 way truss and graphite rods will be in stalled next week!!!! after much reading I'm a little lost here on the pore filler when using dyes.. should I pore fill before or after the dye job????? which filler is best for a non coloring effect or darkening effect??? I was looking on the LMI site, saw some filler paste that is Mahogany colored that I could use before the dye. any opinions on that stuff???? anyway. I'm shooting for a light black cherry dye color with tru oil finish!! should be an odd look!! Thanks

looking good, this one needs a new name. it started as a kelly. but you went with the explorer. but it still has some kelly look to it, the lower horn under the neck is kelly length. too long to be an explorer... this is gonna be awesome when you finish

meters are cheap enough at any radio shack, anywhere I guess from $25 on up. your best bet is a meter and time. you'll have test each component to see if any are faulty. back to square one

I'll check on ebay, see if I can find Alpep. will also check HFC. Yeah Hamer replied to me and said they are using standard Schaller machines now. I wonder if that little back plate with the Hamer name on it will pop off without damage? yeah its the shaft with the tuning knob thats bent. how and why its bent is unknown as I picked this bass up as a total wreck for restore. the chrome is peeling off.. you can search for Hamer blitz bass threads and see the condition it was in when I first got it, and also see it as it is now. I still have a way to go on this restore.. I will see if the back plate will pop off. thats basicly the part I need the most for the Hamer brand on it. if it pops off I can buy new Schallers and which the back plates. thanks for the help people

anyone ever try to take apart a sealed machine head and fix it. this is for my 86 Hamer Blitz Bass restore project. on one of the machine heads the shaft is bent. I emailed Hamer and there not branding there machine heads with their name anymore so I can't get a replacement for it...options????????

I'll give it a try. I had thought of it awhile ago but the difference in output was so big that I never tryed it. my Warwick bass(passive) shows around -20 to -26 (digital) on the input meter on the comp. bass controls wide open, input knob on comp between 3/4 and full open. the active 5 string shows around -6 to -10 on the comp(digital), bass control wide open, input knob on comp between 1/4 and 1/2 up. up to this point I have been dialing in the comp input for each bass. I have different presets for each bass but the input is not saved with the presets. I just thought that the difference in output was too big and I would lose some tone, but I'll give it a try.

oh yeah the bass rig will be upgraded. not looking for a reason to do it. its shot and barely keeps up with lead guitarist's Splawn amp. as far as the gigs go, we are a cover band so we do cover alot of different tunings. if we did nothing but our own music then yes I would have just one bass. my singer/guitarist uses 4 guitars. lead guitarist carries no less then 6 guitars to every show. all 6 are tuned different.. I keep it to 3-4 as I can make it work. simple answers are always out there I agree, but not always the best for everyone. I guess I'm looking for the single electronic push button answer, no knobs to turn , just kick it and go kind of thing.

I'm just not a fan of the big bass necks. its not the nut width that gives me trouble, its the thickness of the neck front to back. after playing 4 stringers for 25 years it just seems wrong,,LOL I'm just an old fart set in my ways so to speak,,LOL,, more then 4 strings and using guitar picks, your not playing bass,,,LOL what I'm working towards is,, I have my Warwick bass for E and drop D. the Hamer Blitz bass restore that I'm working on now will be for D and drop C and then my next restore, a 84 Ibanez Destroyer bass will be setup as B and drop A. just using the top 4 string from a 5 string set. as the restores go forward I'll have make the electronics match up "somewhat", but still leave room for some tonal differences. I will go all passive which will put me in the same area as far as output goes. then find a preamp that will let me program the difference out of them, or something like that.. right now like with all projects money is a factory. everything is coming up on me at this point in time. bass rig is due to be replaced as its about 20 years old and could stand to sound better, its pretty shot.. gotta get my taxes done to see what I have to play with for all projects. that is a way to go. I'm handy with the solder iron but know nothing about electronics unless it is spelled out for me,,LOL I have the multi meter but basicly only use it to find shorts and stuff like that. I did try to change the pickup heights and it helped but it did change the tones also as you mentioned. I'll look into this.
