  1. Heres what i think you guys are looking for,

this is a excerpt from the Legacy amp manual from the carvin site.

    :D

    HELP SECTION

    a) USING THE VAI “HIDDEN FEATURE”

One of the “hidden” features of the Legacy amp is using a technique that Steve Vai

requested be part of the amp for his own use. While playing on the lead channel with a

generous amount of DRIVE (around 6), back off the volume on your guitar. You will find

the channel actually “cleaned up” with your guitar at a lower volume. This is a great feature

for playing both rhythm and lead without switching channels. You will also find that

the amp will be very responsive to your “attack”. An advanced player knows how to vary

his/her attack when picking or strumming, and the Legacy is designed to respond to this.

    :D

  2. Your problem seems definitely that the strings are pinching in the nut, i use to have the very same problem with my ibanez js600, and the thing dont even have a trem, i was bending the string and wham, it was out of tune but higher in pitch.

i was thinking that the neck was shifting until i cleaned the nut slot with sandpaper and started to put guitar grease(graphite based) in them, and problem was solved.....

    :D

by the way, glad to see your back :D

  3. Hey, really cool, its awesome that you could go to meet him even if you were missing on the list.

I wish i could have gone to this show but unfortunately im pretty low on cash right now, but i saw him 3 times (2 x G3 + alone at the Spectrum) already but wouldnt have mind seeing him another time.

How long did the show lasted, the one i saw at the spectrum back then lasted well over 2:30 hour and there was a 5 min. standing ovation after the first 2-3 songs, lol.

This guy is truly amazing and one of the best in my book.

    p.s. nice pics..

    :D

  4. hi eric, langevin forest does have veneer but not the kind we use for guitar (flammed, quilt), but they have small piece that you could use for headstock only.

I bought from veneersupplies.com and they have great product at reasonable price but the only problem is that they use UPS to deliver and it costed me a HUGE brokerage and custom fee. But check cause i think they were gonna change their shipping method or add a cheaper one.

Finally, i think ebay is the cheapest and could be great if you have someone in canada.

    :D

  5. maybe its a dumb idea and i didnt read this thread for a while so i might be totally off on this but heres what i tought,

how about having the knob on the cavity and the rest of the circuit/board on a box that you could clip on your guitar strap, just like a wireless system ?

    :D

  6. hey people,

heres a little update, i had a nose operation in the first week of january to remove some crap in there and after a 2 week recovery i have put things back on track and went into overdrive, lol, :D

first of all, i have fixed the neck pocket issue, i have coated the wall of the pocket with epoxy and mahogany sawdust and rerouted the pocket with a jig ive made and now its tight as hell.

most of the cavities of the body have been routed and the hardware has been put on the neck.

    heres some pics =

    back

    close-up back

    close-up front

I got one major problem now, when ive put the neck screw to attach the neck the maple has checked inside i think and now the LED at the 17th fret doesnt work anymore B) , so now i got 2 choice , unglue the fretboard and risk destroying everything or leave it like that and have this flaw bug me for the rest of my days, lol.

theres still plenty to do but its getting there ....

tell me what you think !!!

    thanks ..

    :D

  7. Dan erlewine in his book *Guitar player repair guide* has these measure =

Quote * Here are the mounting distance for five popular tremolo, measured from the nuts front edge to the center of the pivot stud line. A common installation error is too install the tremolo too far from the nut, causing the guitar to play flat or the bridge saddles to hang over the units fronts edge. youll be safe with these figures :

    Scale length 25.50

    floyd rose = 25 ''

    Schaller floyd rose liscensed = 24 15/16 ''

    Ibanez edge = 25 1/16 ''

    Kahler spyder = 25''

    gotoh floyd rose liscensed = 25 ''

    hope that helps.... :D

  8. actually you can make your own very easily, heres some quotes from martin koch book :

    **binding cement :

When ordinary celluloid binding is cut into small pieces and left soaked in a glass of acetone overnight a creamy mixture - so-called binding cement - is formed which can be used for correcting mistakes and replacing missing bits of binding.

It takes about a day before it is dry and any further work can be done on it.

Be careful, tough, when repairing guitars: acetone attacks nitrocellulose lacquer!. **

    and heres another quote :

** When you buy a binding from a guitarmakers supplier it is normally made of celluloid and is therefore an acetate. Consequently, the best solvent to use for gluing on the binding is acetone.

Brush it generously on the binding and into the rabbet and secure it with adhesive tape. Then apply acetone over the next section and again tape on the binding. Repeat until the whole body is bound. After about six hours the tape can be removed and the binding can be scraped flush with the body using a scraper.**

Hope that will help you a little. :DB)

  9. I have dan erlewine *guitar player repair guide* thats like the title says is more oriented toward set-up, modding and repair but their quite a lot of information in there.

And i also have Martin Koch *Building electric Guitar* Ebook edition **cough** and i find it very well written and lot of usefull tips and tricks, im in electronic and wiring all over my head right now planning for my project and its been a VERY good ressources.

Melvin hiscock book is probably the next one ill buy if i buy another but i cant find it locally here, ill have to order from somewhere, so it will probably wait....

  10. hey matt, you should check out the led installation tutorialmade by daveq, hes the one who insoired me to do mine, its in the electronic tutorial section i think.

yeah, the neck dropped when i was aligning it for clamping the fence for making the neck pocket, i would have needed a third hand at that time, LOL.

    :D

  11. hey, my wife has a digital cam now so this mean i got one too, guess whos gonna use it more, LOL. :D

heres an update, neck pocket is routed and sadly its 0.020 " too large, i dont really know why yet, i have used setch method = put fence on each side of aligned neck and clamp them, put a stopper for the end of the pocket and 2 layers of tape that i removed for the last finishing pass but........ :D

I think this is too much for just the clear coat to compensate for this, i would really need you guys advice for this, please :D

also dropped the neck 2 times on the floor (AAAAAARRRGHHHH !!!), THIS JUST PISS ME OFF, now the tip of the headstock is dented and white plastic binding has chipped, i manage to reglue it but i will now have a seam, thats sucks.

anyway, heres the body, horns are just rough sanded but the rest of the body is fairly fine sanded =

    2005_0128guitarsurtable5.jpgheres some others =

    extra1

    Thanks for watching !!!
