  1. lambuth university in jackson TN....either graphic design or interior design...seriously.
  2. i love it. thats a cool headstock, its different. it doesnt seem like it really fits the body, but everytime i look at it it starts to fit even more in my mind. cool finish too.
  3. thats an uber awesome guitar...really classic
  4. very tough month. but of all the flashy ones i went with tony. simplicity wins over for me. i want a soloist exactly like that.
  5. first off most people who have a vi never use the tremelo. it doesnt work properly even with regular strings/scale length. secondly i almost built one last year and i saw one up close. the bridge has bigger grooves in it for the larger strings. also i do agree that the neck pocket may be a problem, but i would try grooving the bridge. just because you carve deeper grooves in a saddle doesnt mean its "damaged" or even "ruined". i installed a leo quan badass on my guitar a while back and had to carve my own grooves, and sometimes during setups they carve deeper grooves to compensate for differing string guages. some bridge saddles come without the grooves and you have to carve the grooves yourself. its just part of installing/maintaining a bridge.
  6. im trying for things that can pay me a lot in and out of the service, but i also want to get a degree while im in, just because its that much easier when the government is paying for it and you have more time and a guaranteed job while you do it. so what im thinking is my choices for the marines would be paying a lot after promotions which ive been told are easier to get in non combative jobs, but i also have yet to check out my choices for the navy since things operate pretty similairly through both services. had i not chosen to enlist and get a degree while im in, i wouldve probably ended up being a music major, which in memphis if you walk up to a homeless person(we have a huge homeless population and a horrible crime problem, were like number 3 on the most dangerous cities in america) and ask them what they did before they ended up without a job, usually it is something having to do with music whether its making music, producing it, or selling it. memphis and nashville's colleges have huge music programs because its such a thriving industry here. i dont want to end up jobless, and i have a feeling that living at home getting a music degree id have a better chance running the family business when i get out of college(the family business that was started by my father doing exactly what he did in the marines and now making 66$ an hour plus service calls and mileage, fixing hydraulic lifts for heavy craft and vehicles). so the service is my best bet because not only do i have a guaranteed job for so long, i can also get a degree and have a backup plan if i dont end up fixing helicoptors or working on computer coding systems once i get out. yeah, crafty, i couldve probably worded that a different way. i just dont wanna do infantry for something i dont believe needs to be done. i think that war to an extent was very very very needed, i just dont think we need to still occupy iraq so much anymore, i think we should give them a little bit more of a chance to govern themselves and focus on some other things that need to be done, like the slavic countries with genocide problems, and the other countries in the middle east and areas in asia that have the same problem and even a more apparent need for political action... btw, when im in and im getting a degree, ive decided that the only thing besides music and military jobs that interests me is zoology and botany. the two things that memphis is home to is good music and an amazing world renowned zoo that has a set of 10 billion dollar a year animals that eat and sleep and crap and make 8 bucks every time a single person wants to view them (eh, pandas). so my backup plan is working with animals, not cats and dogs of course, but the big expensive ones(kinda like the jets and helicopters i wanna work on).
  7. well the main reason i even thought maybe the navy would give me a better deal was because i am willing to fight in the infantry....just not willing to fight in a war that doesnt even qualify as a war. that being said. i want to do my part but still keep my political opinion. the way the marine recruiter put it was that no matter what job youre doing, whether youre sleeping in a tent and getting shot at or working behind a desk, youre still an equal part of the american military and doing a part that no civilian has the rerquirements to do. the only two things that interest me in the marines at this point is aircraft mechanics and cryptology. this is why im thinking the navy might give me a better job with better bonuses and i might not have to shame myself and my relatives by fighting a war with no point. but ill never know until next week when i go back to the recruiter and see what the navy will give me jobwise. theres a lot more to do in the navy from my point of view. my father even said that if the marines are just going to strip my mos and put a gun in my hands to fight then he wont sign for me, because despite him also being a marine, he wants nothing to do with this war. hell i could end up working on a nuclear submarine and get paid a hell of a lot more than the marines wouldve paid me to reload harrier's and syphon gas with my mouth. so next week i will know for sure. i just know that at this point im enlisting, whether or not they send me into combat.
  8. thank you for that. at this point im 99.9% sure of this and that .1% is me ending up getting a better deal from the navy. ive been checking out all the deals. every branch will pay for 100% of your college while youre on active duty. and then theres the montgomery gi bill of rights that pays money to attend school in and out of active duty. theres also a buttload of money for signing up like 20000 for just signing. next week i go back to the recruiter and i make my final decision on what i want to go into with mos and training. but there still is that tiny little chance that i get a better package from the navy.
  9. next week im enlisting in delayed entry for the united states marine corps. i get to do pt for the next year while i finish high school. this has been something that has been going through my head for a loooooong time. my options are much better this way and its a decision im quite proud of at this point. my parents are signing consent, because i dont turn 18 until december. i pretty much get a leg up on it before boot camp with pt. im gonna end up leaving next july. next week we are going to the recruitment office to plan out my mos and everything. my father was a marine, as was my uncle, and my mother was in the reserves, my grandfather was in the army, my other grandfather was in the navy, and my greatgrandfather was in the navy in korea, and my other great grandfathers fought the germans in wwii. its always been an option to me, and something im very proud of.
  10. westheman has some guitars made with cherry. i would pm him.
  11. ok thanks bro. that helped a lot. ill do just that.
  12. ok i have this bently fat strat copy that i set up to play metal. everything about it is death metal...except the pickups. if i wanted to replace the existing pickup with a dimarzio x2n would it require me to put in a new volume pot...i dunno because im guessing that its a 250 instead of a 500. i would just want to replace the humbucker and keep the singles in. i can do all the work easily its just the whole pot thing is iffy to me as i have never done any thing to this guitar's electronics. thanks in advance.
  13. lookin cool bro. ive got an unfinished jem body sitting in the corner collecting dust. makes me wanna start work on it again.
  14. IMPALER!!!! it threatened to eat my children......and i dont have any!? c'mon guys....it doesnt just speak to you....it threatens to destroy your life and burn your taxes the day before theyre due. nice job matt....the impaler will forever be the perfect guitar in my head.
  15. totally bad@$$ bro. when you start up one with the real deal in woods its so gonna own.
  16. definitly a sweet ax bro. he did a kick@$$ job, but then again he had one of the most awesome builders ive seen overseeing him. so what's the finish gonna be?
  17. OMG!!!!!!!!! that is definitly guitar porn. i would never ever ever in a million years even think about staining that. if ever a guitar were to be called sexy it would definitly be this one. the suspense was well worth it.
  18. i remember the buckeye. it had those cutouts like eyes. it looked awesome with the figuring. i cant wait to see the pics bro. you never stop building do you?
  19. pretty damn good for a first attempt bro. im a fan of blues and greens on figured tops.
  20. i think the kalimba is a good start. i had something like that when i was little...which wasnt that long ago >_>
  21. i would suggest sealing the stain before you attempt the black burst like marzocchi said. that way you can just sand it off if you mess up. and do remember its not going to turn out perfect. even the guys here who have hella experience will tell you that theyve had times when they thought they couldve done something better or different to achieve better results. but most of all have fun with it and good luck because a burst isnt the easiest thing to do but im sure in the end youll be pleased no matter how many mistakes you make because the finish will be distinctly your creation.
  22. is the intonation right? because the problem ive seen with taking the frets off of basses is that the little bit of extra room that you have to push the string down changes the intonation of the note. my friend just discovered this for the first time when he built a fretless bass and had to set up the nut lower than normal to achieve the right sound and intonation.
  23. amazing work bro. few dare to go for an archtop jazz box style. i applaud your bravery and the fact that it went so damn well. makes me wish i had the tools and expertise to build something so kick@$$.
  24. yep, that hit it spot on. id rather take the showmaster over an rg anyday.
