  1. Don't worry, I did that. Every connection is solid though, I can't find anything that would keep it from working.
  2. A friend came to me today with a schecter omen 6, and needed me to fix it. When plugged in, theres no sound, but the wiring is all in tact and appears to be correct. To try and narrow down the problem I plugged a 1/4" cable into the jack and just measured the resistance. When I switched the pickup switch, the resistance stayed the same. Something didn't seem right. Also, the volume knob starts at a low 100 or so ohms, peaks around 120k ohms, and then drops back down to just 15 ohms when I turn the volume from 0 to 10. Any ideas why this is happenning? Anywhere that I missed?
  3. So I'm beginning to purchase parts for my second tele build, and am looking for an ash body blank. It can be 1, 2, or 3 pieces as along as they all look good together. As far as the price goes, just make me an offer. I'm not looking for anything super-expensive, its only my second guitar so I don't need extreme quality.
  4. I think I'll go with the GFS then. As far as the tone, heres a song from his band. The sound I really like is the solo and the lead part at the end of the breakdown. Its the warm and hot lead that I'm trying to nail. http://www.myspace.com/hiatusband The solo is at 2:49 and the breakdown lead part is at 3:37
  5. Wow, thanks for all the input. It definitely sounds like the original plan isn't the best. The tone I'm going for is that smooth, warm hum-bucker sound. I would like to keep the tele looking natural, so putting a hum-bucker in is out of the question. But the single coil sized HB sounds like a good idea. I could just wire a switch in to do coil tap to get that traditional tele twang when I wanted and still have the option of the hum-bucker. Where should I look for these single-coiled hum-buckers though? I know GFS makes them, but the price seems a little to low for some quality pups (although, I may be wrong). I know Seymour Duncan does too, but I've never been drawn to them as a pup manufacturer for some reason. Are there any smaller companies out there that do this? I'm looking for about 60-75 per pup, but would be willing to shell out a little more if necessary
  6. A friends band has just finished recording and I fell in love with the guitarist's tone. I want to develop a lead tone similar to his for some stuff, but he plays an SG which doesn't really compare with a tele. I am planning on building another tele within the coming months, and waned to put a humbucker in it but have it look like a regular tele. The plan is to put an extra route under the pickguard and place a humbucker under the pickguard. Will this work? I thought about taking off most of the thickness on the back of the pickguard at the humbucker to allow the smallest hight between the pup and the strings. Will the pickguard make any significant effects? Also, will this even work? for wiring, I'll just put in an extra switch, or try and find a way to use a push/pull pot to engage the hb.
  7. After some searching of the web, I found the preamp of choice http://www.acousticpreamp.com/servlet/the-...GE-BT-MC/Detail Its got the tuner which I wanted, plus a 4 band eq, and a piezo input plus a mic input (and it includes both). While its probably not the best sounding system out there, it seems like it will do what I need it to. As far as the pics go, I'll post them once I start. Its still a month or two out so I can save some more money for the kit, mold, and electronics. You all know how expensive this stuff gets, and being in high school doesn't help ktrip
  8. Those look interesting. It seems like what I'm looking for too! I am seriously considering this one: http://grizzly.com/products/Artec-Preamp-P...p-w-Tuner/H6065 Any experience with that or the company?
  9. I have seen that sort of pickup system, and while that is an option, I don't think I was clear enough. My hopes are for one of the systems that has the pickup, (active) an eq, volume, and that sort of thing. I would also like a tuner, but that is not required. Now that I think about it, 100 is probably too cheap for something like that. I'm looking for something that is quality, but it doesn't need to be a professional system, just something with good sound. If I am still unclear, let me know and I'll add links to some systems I have looked into.
  10. I have decided to build a martin D-28 kit, and am in need of electronics for it. I have only begun searching for electronics, but I feel like a fish out of water. I don't know where to start. What I am looking for though is a pickup and a preamp (preferably with a tuner, but that can be omitted if it is too expensive). I do not know what to expect for the price of the system, but I'm hoping it won't be more than 100 (if thats way under, whats a better price range to expect?). What would you suggest I use?
  11. I live about 20 minutes southeast of Hartford, CT.. I looked at some lumber supply places, but haven't had any luck finding the wood I need... they are all raw lumber for construction
  12. So my next project is going to be a hollowbody. It's going to be a copy of the Languedoc G2, but with some less exotic woods and way cheaper. In going with cheap costs, I've been looking for some reasonably good wood at a low price. I found a mahogony back blank and a mahogony neck blank. How do these tend to sound in hollowbodies. Also, I'm using curly maple sides and a maple top (if anyone knows where I can get a AA maple blank please let me know) so I'm hoping the lower sounding mahogany will match nicely with the maple. Thanks, KTRIP
  13. Thanks for all they replies. I probably will go with the B50 since it has that beefier look to it. The lack of a tension bar on the B3 would definitely take away from the whole tele feel, and the B16 just doesn't have that vintage look. Now, I want the bigsby logo on it, not the fender logo. Where should I look for the best price? The most common I've seen is 150, but you never know if there's some random place that has it cheaper.
  14. I'm currently doing a custom, and have decided to put a Bigsby on it, but here's the deal. I have looked at the B5, and while it's nice, I'm not totally in love with it which makes me question spending the 150 bucks for it. What I really do like is where the bigsby has more size to it, whereas the B5 looks kinda skimpy. Would it be possible to put a B7 on a telecaster, or is it too long?
  15. A little over a month ago, i started my first build which i called the maplecaster, which is a semi-hollow alder body with a curly maple top with a maple mighty-mite neck. I just want a clear coat, no heavy coloring or paint. What I want to do though is get the darker, more yellowed, vintage maple look. I have read a few little things online about how you could mix something into the clear coat to give it that look. The stuff I read mentioned people doing this but it didn't say how. So how do I achieve this and what do I use? I do not have any spray equipment and really don't want to due to cost.
