just curious what type of metal do you play?metal covers such a broad area.i play mostly slayer and mettallica,but i also play testament,pantera,suicidal,and even some motley crue and ratt(very little of those)of course i write my own stuff which is about as aggresive as slayer but i don't stick to the chromatics as much.i feel like the more aggresive the better but it has to mean something it can't just be mindless bursts of speed.the point is i have tried em all as far as pickups are concerned and the type of metal you play is going to determine the best pickup choice for you.for what i play emg's are the best(81 at bridge)but for ratt or crue a duncan jb or screamin demon is pretty cool.if you don't want to go active a dimebucker is the most aggresive and articulate passiv pickup going.just make sure your bridge pickup is high enough output for the metal you play and the others can provide the versatility your looking for.

yeah believe it or not i prefer a slightly higher action.(just slightly)i just bought a jackson from a pawn shop and the neck is so straight i can set my action to about the thickness of a laminated card but i had to raise it cause i couldn't pull a bend without slipping off the strings.i also have those supper thick calluses.if i play for more than a couple of hours i have to pick of the bits of hanging skin so they don't interfere.but that's partially because i fret the notes harder than i have to.

those pickups dan mentioned aren't hot enough for metal.that's 99%of what i play and i got some good suggestions. your ibanez probably has a basswood body so.... bridge- first choice-duncan dimebucker.there is nothing hotter and it also has a crisp clean tone.best articulation i have ever heard in a passive pickup. second choice duncan invader but it's a little noisy and it isn't as good looking. neck-59 would be great middle-cool rails or my best suggestion-go active-bridge 81-neck 85-middle s or sa.don't worry there is enough room in the control cavity to put a battery but wrap it in foam rubber and electric tape to keep it from making unwanted connections.and if you do go emg they all have identical volume output so you won't hear a volume difference when switching. those are my suggestions if you like the sound of pantera,mettallica,slayer,or testament style metal(high articulation good bottom end and screaming highs)

hey guess what alex you're right.it is cosmo black i was just at ibanez's site and they have parts available in that color.only way i can tell is by the contrast between the pickup and the ring.happy day.i've been wanting to replace the trem for a while anyway

yeah i don't know.you can't tell from the picture but that inlay at the21 fret is a clear plastic rectangle with the words "custom made"underneath.plus the inlays at the other frets appear to be abalone but they could be fake.

good to know i tune my guitars at the 7th fret using power chords and i can't stand how c major and a minor never sound right.

also they butcher the cow at about a year old so i guess you could say the angus is young.

here in central texas angus is a type of cow that has really good beef.i ordered a hind quarter from the local butcher a few months ago.(that's about 100 pounds of beef)really tasty.mmmmm,angus.

i have to agree with lgm,i find sg's overwhelmingly ugly.if i had designed it i would be ashamed.on the other hand the custom designs you came up with almost make it bearable.they would look great on a les paul or v.just my opinion. i also feel the same about steinbergers.i hear they're great guitars though.it's the cutaway behind the trem and the lack of headstock.

you can buy a neck thru neck from carvin or stewmac(or others)already fretted and ready to go and it is thick enough to create a neck angle if needed.(look at the ibanez s copy in the gallery to see what i mean)that might give you another option.plus they are one piece construction with 2 graphite reinforcement rods so i doubt it would break.unless you dropped it really hard but how often does that happen?(never in my 12 years of playing and i only play standing up)

you can use any stereo output jack it doesn't matter but it has to be stereo cause that's how it keeps the battery from being on all the time.i put emg's in my ibanez and i left the old jack in and it works great.

i thought gotoh made the lo pro for ibanez.that's what's on my ibanez and the inserts are hardened steel.am i wrong alex?one question though my sabre has all chocolate brown hardware on it but the humbucker mounting ring and the tremelo are starting to peel.where can i get chocolate brown replacements?

i just modified the neck joint on my schecter and rather than buy a new screw i just snipped the old one shorter with wire cutters.

i have noticed that other musicians are different but my dexterity suffers greatly from drinking anything cold.i think hard liquor is different but you have to ask if you want to be at the top of your game or not.i save getting messed up for afterwards.i think of it like this,any athlete will tell you it's very important to have a sweat on before a game.it raises your energy level and improves the ability of your joints to move.it also gets you pysched up.anything that takes your "sweat" away is a hindrance.maybe this isn't necessary for some styles of music but for high energy rock or metal(like iron maiden since that is what he mentioned)you need all the edge you can get.but then again my buddy could play great even if we were playing in 30 degree weather.everyone is different.i always felt it was best to give it everything you got.that way all you have are good memories not ones that make you cringe.i play slayer alot and i have to say if i am not in the proper frame of mind and warmed up i will not be able to play war ensemble or angel of death.try downpicking master of puppets after a beer or two you will see what i mean.
