  1. LOL!!! "Custom knife" is refering to "Custom ordered Handmade Knives" not the act of putting LEDs, gold plating, diamond frosting, or adding rims to the knives.
  2. It seems harder than big leaf, I do have some of that laying around. It is going to go in a multi-piece neck with mahogany, laminates, & I will have carbon fiber reinforement bars as well. My guess is that it will be pretty strong. Thanks for the input guys.
  3. I was just concerned with using it on a neck. It seems pretty strong so I will probably go ahead and use it for my project. Any which way it should be strong enough in a multipiece neck. I'm just being really careful since its my first full build.
  4. I'm very interested to see how this turns out!!!
  5. I started sanding them and the more I sand the more curl that comes out. The last pic you can see all the dust and discoloration on them. Still wandering what people think about the type. Thanks! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Awf...ld/DSCN3238.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Awf...ld/DSCN3239.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Awf...ld/DSCN3240.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Awf...ld/DSCN3241.jpg
  6. It looked moderately white in color but it is covered in dust. I'll clean it up when I get home and see what if I can tell by the color. Thanks for the quick reply.
  7. I'm pretty familiar with the different species of maples but have not had a chance to work with them much. I went to the lumberyard today and picked up what little maple they had. I live in Arkansas so no-one has maple here. It seems pretty dense & tightly grained but everything is compared to pine (our state tree). Is there any easy way to differentiate the two main types? If I knew what species it was I could determine but I dont even know that. Any input would be helpful. Thanks, Anthony
  8. Hi, my name is Anthony. I'm 23 years old and live in Arkansas. I've been watching this site and trying to learn as much as possible over the past few months. I thought it was about time I actually introduced myself. I have played guitar on and off for about 12 years. Also have been obsessed with modding them for about a year and a half and found interest in extended range instruments at the same time. I do have a little knowledge in wood working, I have been a custom knifemaker since the age of 8 and have dabbled with furniture building and veneer work. I'm very excited because I am getting ready to do my very first full build. I plan of keeping it simple: Mahogany bodied 8-string 27" scale, 25 fret, w/ ebony board on/ 5-piece bolt-on neck w/ hipshot fixed bridge & Lundgren M8 in bridge w/ 1 vol pot At this point in my planning I am unsure as to what body shape I'm going to go with. I was thinking Explorer or Iceman. I'm sure I will have many more questions during the build. I promise I will only ask if I cant find the answer using the "search" feature. I look foward to talking to you guys and making new friends. Thanks, Anthony
