  1. Well, I have emailed Devcon about their epoxies and they replied with an ok. Let it cure fully, sand lightly and wipe with alcohol. The Loctite brand, under product questions it says the exact same thing. Have yet to hear back from emailing Superglue but I would expect the same.
  2. That would be great as long as the sealer would stick to it. I am looking into it more. The sealer I have claims it will stick to almost anything. Including glossy sufraces. Lists quite a few things like aluminum, steel, wood, ceramics. And goes under and over oil and waterbased paints. Maybe I'll try to superglue a large spot on a scrap piece of wood and see how well this stuff will stick. Let me know if you paint soon what you get.
  3. Is paint and or sealer going to stick to it? What brand did you use?
  4. I have a completed yet unfinished jem body and had a question reguarding the lion's claw. Each of the routed fingers (between each string lock screw) has an extremely thin point of wood between them. From the radius of the bit. I was curious of how to treat them. They are so thin that right now they are bending and one has started to crack because it is such a thin point of wood. Is there a way to stiffen them up? Someone once told me to use an epoxy or superglue that the wood would soak up and make it hard. I am not too sure if any sealers would stick to the glue. I hate to attempt to shave a bit off because I would end up making each a different height. What do you guys do to this area? It's hard to see that part on pictures from the internet and I haven't a real jem to go by. I know this isn't a critical area but was hoping some of you jem makers could give me some advice. And a 2nd question. How do you sand inside each of those? Is there a trick or easy way?
  5. I was wondering if someone could give some advice on creating a temporary booth for spraying in a garage. The last thing I want is a bunch of dust floating into my paint. And I am probably going to paint one guitar, maybe 2 depending on the $ situation. I don't want to walk in and out creating a ton of dust in the air from whatever source. The door, or just off the floor itself. I know I am going to have to do a thurough cleaning of the area and spray the floor with the hose to get as much dust out as possible.(cement floor) But if the body is to hang and dry how can I keep it as clean as possible? I am starting from a bare body. So sealer-primer-paint-and clear. Of course this will be done as soon as the temp is appropriate. I have been putting this one project off forever and have researched a ton of paints and sealers. Seeming how I have temporarily lost my connection to a proper spray booth and an arsenal of equipment. I am going to have to do it myself.
  6. Thanks a ton!!! I really appreciate the advice.
  7. I have been searching forever to find a good paint system to do a swirl jem copy. Someone had told me in the past about piano type sealers because they are hard and durable. Does anyone know anything about these? What brands to use and the correct system. Does the sealer go directly on the bare wood then a basecoat and paint? I am a newbie on this polyester stuff and would like to use it if I can find out how and the brands to use. I have access to a complete spray booth with ventalation and the works. Which I hear you need with the polyester. Just cannot find which brand to get and the correct system. Some say to seal, paint, seal again and clear. Most I find are reccomended with an entire polyester system of sealer, tinted surfacer and a topcoat. Any suggestions would be wonderful.
  8. ok, the stripe part looks like a decal but the Ibanez lettering is thick to where you can feel it. here's a random pic i found off the web of a similar headstock. and this whole thing looks like a decal and I assume is covered in a clearcoat
  9. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in replacing or making an ibanez headstock decal. The newer ones with the silver/chrome Ibanez letters. On the new jem it is gold. The letters stick up higher than the stripe. But replacing the "ibanez " which in gold would be really cool, I have not a clue on how to do. Any suggestions or a site where I could get a replacement. I have seen a few on ebay but find it hard to believe you could get that same thing with just a sticker.
