  1. Most likely it is a thinline on top and the solidbody on the bottom. I saw a guitar like this on Warmoth.com. The guitar was a classical nylon string on top and a PRS looking guitar on bottom. Probably made the same way slash's is.
  2. Thanks for replying. I am not sure exactly what i want yet. I want something with an H-S-H set up so I can have a more versitile guitar...meaning I can coil tap the humbuckers so I could get single or humbucker sound. I was thinking along the lines of a Strat or an LP. I would buy one from Fender, but I want to have the guitar exactly how I want it when I build it. Also, the quality of Fender and Gibsons has been a bit lacking as of late. I read an article on the quality of Gibson and the author had been playing guitars for 30 odd years and worked in a guitar shop, so he played several Les Pauls and he stated that 1 LP out of ever 100 was worth the price. So I want somethign worth the price that I will pay.
  3. Which is better for building a guitar. I am not looking to build lots and lots of guitars...I just want one very good guitar I can keep for a very long time. Would Warmoth or WD Music be a better choice, or should I go ahead and attempt building? This is a very stupid question, but I had to ask it, sorry.
  4. It is an alder body, I know it isn't made of false wood. haha.
  5. I am new to the forum, and I do not know exactly where this goes, so I am making a guess and hoping I do not get banned for it. Anyway, I wanted to spread the word about Everly strings. I decided to go out on a whim and try new strings other than D'Addario EXP light that I have been using for around 5 years and I was quite impressed. I really enjoy their sound, and the "Session" make string lasts a good long while. They also have a string designed for the A/E that gives it a different range of tone. I haven't put those on yet, but I am going to next time I change.
  6. I would highly suggest you get one if you are into the acoustic sound. I have only played ones at stores, but I am looking to buy one after I buy a Kentucky Mandolin. I really enjoy the fuller sound I get from one, although i cannot pick as easily on one, for strumming I enjoy it on a good many songs.
  7. Allright, thank you. I will take the router into consideration. I am not sure I will be able to work confidently with it on my guitar though, even though it is a cheap-o I would rather not screw it up to much (and knowing me I would) so I guess I will try the hammer and chisle approach.
  8. I would suggest going to a local guitar store and trying several different brands. I would especially try out Alvarez, Dean, Yamaha, some Ibanez (I am not a huge fan of their sound, or feel for that matter, but that is a personal preferance, you will have to determine if you do or not on your own), Seagull, or A&L guitars. All play extremely well, in fact, I belive many play better than $2000 acoustics. I love my Alvarez more than anything, I play that thing around 4 hours a day. I style/sound is mainly acoustic, I rarley touch my electric, and I have never played a guitar that sounded and felt so good for the price I paid for the Alvarez, somewhere around $300.
  9. I am new to the forums and am looking to modifying a cheap strat. I have an old Squier Affinity Strat. I rarley play electric guitar, I like sound and feel of the acoustic more, but I figured I might as well have an electric I can play. Any way, the set up is S-S-S and I want it to be H-S-H. The single coil slots allready fit Soapbar and Mini-Humbucker pick-ups, I toiled around with the thought of using those for a while, but I also want to be able to coil tap the pickups to get a single-coil sound if i want to, so, what tool would be necessary to cut out the wood to fit the humbuckers?
