  1. The wire-range pickups in the reissues are regular humbuckers. They have alnico magnets under the polepeices. They're very different from the original '72 era Wide Range's found in Tele Custom's and the Starcaster. Back on topic, nice guitar man!
  2. The power supply is able to power the other three pedals all at once, and their combined curret draw is a bit more than the DD3 draws. But yes, the pedal does work with the battery. mammoth guitars, the regulator idea sounds worth checking out. The original Japanese DD3 was the exact sasme model as the DD2, but maybe my taiwanese DD3A is different? Thanks for everyone's help, Matt
  3. mammoth guitars, No, the pedal isn't working with the adapter at all... Now that I think about it, I don't thinbk I've ever tried running the delay with a power supply before. The adapter I'm using is quite generic, it was laying around the house. The reverse of what I needed, but I turned the leads around this morning, so that the tip's positive. It looks like I'll have to take the thing apart. Could it be an issue with the AC jack? The thing is that the LED comes on, so there IS power going through. It's just not really working... And yeah, I'm plugged in the input.
  4. Hey guys, I just finished setting up my first real pedal board today. I'm daisy chaining from a single adapter. The adapters good for 300mA. The total draw for the pedals is 125mA-ish. They're all 9v pedals, and the polarity of the daisy chain is correct for all of them. My problem is, my Boss DD3 Delay won't work when it's plugged into the adapter. The LED comes on, but the effect dosen't happen. The other pedals in the chain are a Marshall Supervibe chorus, a MXR Distortion+, and a George Dennis Wah. They all work properly. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks guys, Matt
  5. I'm running through an Ampeg SuperJet, which I picked up for $450(400US) canadian. 50w combo, amazing cleans, but not very versatile. I have to turn it up SO loud to get a real tube drive tone out of it. If I were in your exact position and I couldn't find anything locally, I'd look for a vintage Traynor Bassmaster on eBay. They go for 500 on the high end, usually less, and they're THE "non big brand" head. There's also a million of them out there. If you know what you're doing, they can be modded into a virtual soundalike of a Bassman or a Plexi. A quick eBay search popped up four of these suckers, the most expensive being $329US.
  6. I'm just finishing a walnut guitar, it's currently strung up for a test fun proir to finishing. It's a bolt-on double cutaway, hardtail, double humbucker, with a maple neck and fretboard. 25.5 inch scale (647.7 mm), and the body is 1.75 inches(44.45mm) thick. It's a very, very, clear tone. Defined, but not harsh at all. I think the maple adds some high-end snap to the walnuts low end, making a very balanced midrange machine, which is really a very proper guitar sound. It's a great jazz tone. And it's so pretty. Like chocolate.
  7. I've got a Mighty Mite hardtail for my current project, and I'm wondering what the things made of. I was drilling the hole for the bridge grounding wire yesterday, and a new thought popped into my head. "Isn't this made of brass"? I've been searching the web, and I can't find any info. I'm suspicious that it's either brass, which won't need to be grounded, or aluminum, which will. The solder's not sticking to it, even after I scraped away a spot of finish. Anyone have any information on these parts? It's this one, at the top, btw Mighty Mite Bridges.
  8. The truss rod is adjustable at the headstock. There's a slot routed for the wrench, although it is a little hard to see in that picture.
  9. Kinda like a Charvel Model 4. It's an import Samick Superstrat with a Kahler. Looks fairly generic.
  10. Traynor has some amps in that price rang that are KILLER. The YCV40 and YCV50 are an amazing pair of amps. the 40 also comes in a 2X10 config, which is pretty cool. And the 50 has a blue tolex cover, and black grill...purty... YCV50BLUE YCV40
  11. Every couple of months, maybe 3x a year. Certainly not every string change.
  12. It's a Kustom head... While the Behringer cabs will effect tone, most of it'll be coming from the head.
  13. Mark Knopfler is a lefty playing right. Playing righty upside down is the weapon of choice for leftys that I know.
  14. First time I'd actually heard one of his songs was in October. I was at a wedding reception, and "Summer of 69" was in the dance mix. Now, I knew that he was an aging rock star, but I'd never actually listened to him. Alex Lifeson is the only guitar god to come out of Canada. Although Randy Bachman is a fine player, in his own right.
  15. .88's heavy??? You need some Jazz III's. According to Mel-Bay, the "right" way to hold the pick is between the thumb and the top joint of the index finger... You sit it on the topside of the finger, and then hold it in place with your thumb. It's important that your arm bends at either the wrist or the elbow, but keep your actual hand rigid. If you notice that your technique changes when you play fast or slow, then there is somwthing wrong with your picking. Most importantly, don't hurt yourself!

Soloist's are Neck-through, Dinky's are bolt-on. There are some other differences, such as wood, and I don't think that the Dinky has any form of contoured heel, but they are very similar in all other respects. The Soloist series does get a bit classier, with fancy inlays and stuff. The Dinky less so.
  17. Hey, My local shop has just taken in a used Traynor Custom Valve 80, 80 watt all-tube combo. 2 12" Celestions, a rock solid unit. $700 Canadian, about $550 or so US. Now, they have a new Traynor Custome Valve 40T, the 40 watt version of the same amp, with 2 10" Celestions. The new one is about $800 after taxes and all that. Both these amps are awesome. But the 80 watter is quite a heavyweight, at 65 pounds. And although I haven't cranked either of the two, 80 Tube watts sounds like SO much volume. I'm kind of in Idch's boat, where I don't want to blow my ears out trying to find that perfect gritty tube-tone. Exactly how much louder is an 80 watt amp than a 40? How much extra chest-hair comes with it?
  18. My local shop has a pair of Slammer Explorer's used, they had a Epiphone one there for a while too, looked like they were trying to start a club of something. I'll speak up on the quality of Korean guitars too, I've played some dandy instruments to come out of there in the last few years. And I've played some awesome Taiwanese guitars, all Yamaha's. Does anyone else make guitars on that island? Out of curiosity, does anyone know where the line between the Slammer's and the Hamer imports lies? There's a Hamer Echotone (335 clone) in that shop that says China on it, and I expect a higher level of quality from Hamer than Slammer. It's 250-300 more than an Epi Dot sitting across from it, and something tells me it probably came from the same factory...Only difference is the machine heads. Whereabouts in Ontario are you, Curtis? If you're not too far west, I'd head over to eastern Quebec. That thar's Godin country, and apparently stores near the factory's take in guitars with some cosmetic defects, and offer them at tasty prices.
  19. Hmm. I could be wrong on the food bit, but as a singer, I wouldn't eat pasta before a performance. Too gooey. Coats your throat. I've heard so many nasty stories about male singers in the middle ages. Castrati Sopranos... eyuck. Because women weren't permitted to sing in opera\church and the like, they had younng boys sing the soprano parts. And if they were good, then they'd usually end up castrated before puberty. And the kids never quite grew up. Not quite man, not quite woman, not quite child, not quite adult... It hurts just THINKIN about it . Primal: Horn is stressful? Thanks for the warning! I don't need no more stress.
  20. I head it (the hemmorage bit) from a guy who spent quite a few years as a band instructor. I've chosen to trust his judgement, but I don't see myself playing any double-reeded instruments ever. You live in New Glasgow, in a province called Nova Scotia (New Scotland), you get sick of bagpipes real fast. And a word of advice, get earplugs with bagpipes. In fact, get every member of your household, and all your neighbors some earplugs. Standing next to a piper is a recipie for tinnitus. We're talking louder than a Deep Purple concert . Opera singers also supposedly don't live very long, and are subject to rampant obesity. Apparently they don't eat all day before an evening performence, gorge for a few hours after the show, then sleep for 10+ hours immediatly afterward. A shapely, attractive young female I know aspires to be a pro opera singer, and I gagged the first time I heard it. Such a waste... PS: Cellos pwnz to the max!
  21. Hmm... I took violin lessons for a few weeks when I was 6 or so...that ended on a very sour note. I took piano lessons for a year and a half when I was 10 or 12, quit because I was a stubborn kid, and have been regretting it. Then High school came, and I auditioned for the musical, and the choir director sent out a hit squad to muscle me into the concert choir. I had started guitar seriously maybe a few weeks before this, and I started spending a lot of time in the music room at school. I started playing piano again, fiddled with my old fiddle, relearned how to read music, messed around with both double basses and bass guitars, have become a decent guitarist, generally crappy drummer, and all-around fairly competent musician. I've got a French Horn on loan from the band teacher for the summer, and have to get around to figuring the thing out. I've also heard that oboe players tend to die young, usually from brain hemmorages. Apparently it's an awful lot a pressure in the head, and some folks just don't get used to it.
  22. What about one of those Behringer Sansamp clones? Use the preamp, then run to the PA. They're only like $40 or something, and supposedly quite decent. I think the model name is BDI21?
