  1. im at the point in my project where i will be attaching the neck to the body... iirc the distance from the zerofret to the 12th fret..must be equal to the 12thfret onto the saddles... what my question is...which saddle should i measue it from? im using a ibanez edge type bridge if that helps any thanks in advance
  2. hmm r u sure? because when i use 600 grit ..it loads up
  3. that amp decived me...looked like a solidstate
  4. darn i just got back getting some circles cut from a sign show now i see that haha - anyone want some dots? :-P ok kind of a related question...do i sand inbetween coats of base and clearcoat ?
  5. well i thought it was a general rule to start with a primercolor closest to your basecoat. to be honest i havent seen that Vai Guitar...its a good reference tho "The prototype actually has the "JEM" logo script on the headstock. There were more green spots on the guitar originally, but constant use and touring have caused some of the adhesive spots to fall off." i dont want them to fall off so after laying my basecoat of black..i assume i put the stickers on there then clearcoat....would there be some sort of complication regarding the bonding of the clearcoat to areas where the dots are on?
  6. alright thats what i did heres what i ended up with now i want to turn it into something like this...mabye not as many dots... yes i know its got polkadots. but how would i go spraying them on? should i mask off the whole body..then cut out circles from the tape then proceed to spray?or is there an easier way to do it? thanks in advance
  7. hm i was thinking that too but...i was going to use a flat black base coat anyways (i heard its easier to sand)
  8. so im planning to have a black finish on my project jem...would it be fine just to use black primer then clearcoat? or black primer..black basecoat then clearcoat? which would have a deeper shine?
  9. topic says it all..preferably rosewood or ebony (darkwood) .and not too beat up haha ill offer between 100-200 depending on the condition and hardware on it thanks guys contact me at jasonpascual at yahoo dot com (yes i space and word it like that for a reason)with offers
  10. oh and also...would lacquer dissolve or react with vinyl ? for example if i were to put some vinyl graphic on the base coat..then clear coat it with clear lacquer ...would anything happen?
  11. i plan on doing pyramid inlays like that found on a JEM neck now from what ive read the vinyl used underneat the inlay usually fades. now im not really scientific but IIRC sunlight causes it to fade....if i were to get UV resistant polycarbonate (as opposed to) would i reduce the fading?
  12. thanks alot very informative now just 1 quick question.....do lacuqers need a special type of primer as well?
  13. hi guys...just a few questions if it helps im doing this to a JEM replica -from alder 1-how smooth (in terms of sand paper grit )should the raw wood be before priming? and how many coats of primer should be sprayed prior to the actual color? 2-i also seem to have a problem with sanding the lions claw trem route.. every grit i go through..the wood in that area seems to fray. what i mean is that it dosent sand flat ..the best way i could describe it that it has a slight furry texture. should i just continue sanding or use wood filler at this point? oh i plan on painting this another color from the body ....and in painting this would it be eaiser to brush it since its a smaller area? or just use a can and just mask everything else? 3-enamel vs laquer...i was wondering what the differences are. and from what i heard (i dont remember where) if i were to enamel base..and laquer clear coat it wouldnt work.. 4- and for the actual paint color...is it reccomented to get a solid glossy black spray then clear coat? or a flat black spray then clearcoat? thanks guys
  14. same thread at jemsite...but just posting it here :O the jem body that i got off ebay arrived today...the job looked pretty complete but just the lack of wire holes.. now is this the correct path of travel for the pickup wires? in addition it also looks like the guy didnt complete a path from the output jack to the controlknobs... so is this how i should route it? the only tools i have are a hand drill a dremel and a drill press..it looks like i can use the handrill to drill the pickup route to the knob area. but from the knob area to the output jack..it looks a bit harder to use a drill? what would you guys suggest i use for that?
