  1. AIM= AOL Instant Messenger. Jeremy's on almost as much as I am. Wait.....skip that. I blow him away when it comes to time on AIM. LOL For 3-D stuff, I've got some software suggestions for ya (non-AutoCAD).
  2. Ditto- you're always welcome down here too. We actually have a real house now, with a garage and everything. Oh, and two guest rooms! Quite the difference from the last time you crashed at our place, eh? :-) Let's take this to email and try to work something out in the near future. If anyone sees another Flame-copy on FleaBay, please send me an IM. Thanks. :-)
  3. Don't tempt me! I'm pretty damn close to you now (4.25 hrs. south of you). Might have to make a road trip one of these days. :-)
  4. Now that one looks GOOD. And a true score for less than $1K. Nice job, Kirk! Can I play it at Jemfest this year? :-)
  5. With basic 2-D CAD drawings going for a few thousand dollars each, this could be some good money for you, Alex. I'm sure the 3-D versions will bring you a pretty penny. If you need some CAD help, hit me or LGM up on AIM. He's a total pro, while I'm just finishing up my first two patents.
  6. Ok...I guess I'll toss in here (hope I don't get banned): Guitars- CLICK HERE Amps- CLICK HERE Guys I Wish I Could Hang With (Musically)- CLICK HERE and CLICK HERE and, of course, CLICK HERE. :-) Enjoy!
  7. Quite easily, actually. Because the original is so unbelievably better, in every way. Compare for yourself: CLICK HERE for a shot of the original (bottom of page).
  8. Repair the link, and we shall see. :-) PUHLEASE tell me it's not that horriffic pseudo-Flame/570 copy. Ugh....

    Band Names

I always liked: Hoover & The Dust Bunnies My little brother was in a band called S.P.O.C.K. Named after a bong I had it high school- Satanic Powered Oblong Cranium Killer. A few months later, we built "Serik" out of a huge 5' clear plastic beef jerky container we got from a truck stop in New Mexico. (Serik is Spock's father.) Nightmare Cinema got stolen from me by another band... I'm sure I can remember a few more....I'll post them when I'm less tired. :-)
  10. www.mcmaster.com All kinds of springs there. If you don't see exactly what you need, give them a call. Friendly folks willing to help out.
  11. You might try to find a Washburn "Wonderbar" setup. They are also flat-mount. Probably extremely difficult to find these days, but the one I had (mounted on a Strat-type body) felt pretty good. In 1991, the big music store in Denver, on Colfax (Melody Music?) had 4 of them. They're probably still there. :-)
  12. I would post my gear listing, but.....I recently got banned on that "other forum" after posting updated pics of all my gear.
  13. Now, see....here's where I'm a little different than most. I *would* bid on it. I would do my damndest to win it. Whatever it is, and for whatever amount. You guys can stop spitting at me. Here's why: - Kev wins auction (yay!). - Kev gets contact info from seller. - Kev now has what he needs. :-) - Kev posts the address for the guys on Project Guitar.com. They have their "weapons of choice". They know what to do with them. - Kev emails every major news agency in the US with the address/phone number of that FleaBay f*ckstick. Result: - One azzhole arrested (hindering a federal investigation is an instant felony; go to jail. Do not pass Go; Do not collect $200). - One piece of evidence (if it was even real and not a chipped-off piece of ceiling tile) goes to the proper authorities. ...giving the investigators one more chance at solving this puzzle so we never have to do this again.
  14. The guys over at Weber VST are really cool. They've got some specs up there, and some Jensen-alike speakers they sell. I'm sure a quick email will get you the specs you need. http://www.webervst.com
  15. A few strips of 2" masking tape on the "face" of the plexiglass will keep it from getting accidentally scratched while working on it.
  16. Two more words: Muffin Tray. A tad bit more pricey than Altoids, but most have 12 'cups' for screws and such. They also come in handy when it comes to sequence. You can number them (Sharpie, nail polish, etc) so you know what screws to use when you put it all back together. (Source: many years working on motion picture gear; a standard item at many work benches)
  17. Another November Announcement: Kevan's Moving!!! Yep- headed to Ohio in the morning. Goodbye cable modem; hello dial-up (Bri- I'll feel your pain. LOL). I'll get back on broadband as soon as we move into the new house. My email is down due to a server move. It should be back up by this weekend. I'll email everyone with my new address and phone numbers as soon as we get into the new house (after 11.22.02). I'm glad we're dealing with all this crap at once instead of little bits all over the place. One headache instead of 10. LOL Trust me- this is a GREAT move. Not only for her career and mine, but to get 3x the house for half the price! :-) I'll have my own music floor! WooHoo! Plus, as Frank Sinatra said, "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere." I think we'll dig it in OH. BTW- you are all invited over! Just give me 24 hours notice so I can get my underwear off the floor. :-P I have pics for a tutorial that I still have to write out. It's called "Elbow Grease". I turned a $15 guitar into a $150 guitar with only a Phillips screwdriver and a bunch of 'elbow grease'. :-) It's more for the beginner, but some experts might pick up some tips. I hate typing on this little laptop, so when I get back on my Mac, I'll get it all typed up for Bri to post. You guys have a GREAT week. I'll check with ya when I get to OH on Friday. P.S.- Anyone want to buy a house on the beach in NY? :-)
  18. The 550 was a 1987 model. I got a lot of notes out of that guitar. It was "well played" or really "broken in". LOL If you ask G.E., the stain *DID* dry lighter. Not as light as he would have wanted, but it was, technically, lighter. And, "Midnight Blue" is a very dark stain to start with. Remember: when staining wood, start LIGHT and work your way darker. No one should be afraid of soldering. Jacking up your car is more dangerous. :-)
  19. This thread is for the super-obscure tech stuff that's not found in manuals or elsewhere online. By some freak chance, someone might find the info they're looking for here. Not all of it will be about guitars, but it will all be guitar, FX, amp and/or cabinet related. From pickup to speaker cone, this is where the hard-to-find stuff could be. I figured we could add at least one per day. I know you other folks have some odd stuff lodged in your mental HDD....or maybe it's just me. LOL If you can, please note your source. I'll start off with a few: - Rivera TBR-series amp cooling fan size: 80mm x 80mm (Source: Paul Rivera, Sr.) - Most of the output jacks in guitars built today are made by Switchcraft. [www.switchcraft.com] They have been the industry standard for decades. (Source: my years of tearing apart guitars) Feel free to add on.
  20. Thanks for the link Simon. I forgot to include it in my original post. :-) The first five pics in the gallery were not taken by me. They were shot by the original owner at his house (nice extension cord in the shot. LOL). The two new ones (#6 and #7) were taken at Jemfest 2002 in Orlando. I'll get some new pics to Brian as soon as I'm awake when the sun is out. LOL
  21. Thanks guys! I'm glad to be here. I don't claim to know it all, but I'm always willing to learn. In exchange, I'll share my vast, and sometimes trivial (LOL), knowledge.
  22. Good news and bad news, guys. I got to play one the last time I was at Hoshino. It was put on a VWH body with a 570 neck. Yes- string changes are fast as hell. They can be done in the middle of a solo! :-) But, where am I going to find strings in the middle of Austin? Or Fargo? Or even NYC? Like the Steinbergers, pre-cut strings will be hard to find, as opposed to 'normal' strings that can be found in any city with more than 200 people in it. Word has it that Floyd is trying to get a major string manufacturer to back him on this little project. That might help, but.... It is NOT a drop-in, 100% retrofitable replacment on Edge/LoPro-equipped guitars! They had done some serious trem post moves (read: re-drilling several times) to get it to fit and intonate properly. Looked like poo, but then again, they were just trying it out. On the other hand, the nut did seem to bolt right on. Alternate tunings? Hmmm...I don't think so. I think you're stuck with EADGBE, or however you set it up initally. One tuning, and you're done. But you get fast string changes. LOL Floyd is NOT selling licenses for this trem; he's selling them himself. This could burn him in the end, and could potentially provide parts problems in the future. I'll hand it to Floyd for coming up with a cool idea for zippy string changes (which we all hate doing), but there are a ton of other issues that need to be addressed. Plus, that VWH/570 looked silly with no tuners on the headstock. :-)
  23. Hey folks! Brian's been cool enough to put up some (early) shots of my JEM77FP-DN and a few from Jemfest 2002. I'll toss out as many specs on this guitar as I can. Here we go: - Body was cut at the Chesbro Custom Shop by one of their employees. For those that don't know, Chesbro is the West Coast distributor for Ibanez. Anyway, the guy wanted to do a JEM-DN, but never got around to finishing it. I picked it up off EvilBay for a song. :-) - The guitar came with two (2) JEM77FP necks. Both were 6-string. The original owners plan was to do one with a trem and one hardtail. Did that sit well with Kev? Nope. :-) - The finish on the body is NOT perfect. There are only a few coats of clear on here, and many dimples are visible. I don't think the guy ever sanded the coats. The fabric on this guitar is NOT a perfect match to that on real FP's, but it's damn close. - I found (after MAJOR searching) an Ibanez S-540-TN 12-string neck. Just what I was looking for! You do NOT want to know the price. LOL - As you can see in the Tutorials section on this site, I swapped the fretboards from the JEM neck to the 540 neck, and vice versa (Brian got the 22-fret JEM neck. LOL). Now I have a 12-string, tilt-back headstock, vine-inlay neck. Perfect! The nut on the 540 neck is graphite, and had not been cut when I purchased it. I'd like to thank Woody Phifer (www.phiferdesigns.com) for helping me with getting that thing cut. - Neck was mounted, and fit perfectly. Top neck is the 12-string (hardtail) and the bottom neck is 100% JEM with a LoPro trem. The heel joints for both necks are original JEM style. - Pickups used are DiMarzio (of course. LOL). Here's the layout: 12-string: Air Classic ( and Fast Track 2 (N) 6-string: PAF-PRO (, HS-2 (M), PAF-PRO (N). That's as close to 'real' JEM pickups as I could get. The pickups were ordered with the custom color combinations. The "all pink" on the original FP's was a bit much for me, so I added a touch of green to the guitar. I think it works well. Notice how the pink and green are staggered? Yeah...I like that look too. The wiring for the JEM neck is regular JEM wiring. The 12-string side currently has the Air Classic and the Fast Track 2 combined. I might split them up later. There is a neck selector switch. You can switch between the two necks, or run the both at the same time (for those Stanley Jordan types out there). The two (2) Volume and two (2) tone pots are standard 500K. - Knobs and switch tips are from Rich Harris' Ibanez Rules.com. I'm not sure if he has anymore; we found one of these under a dresser. LOL The knob colors are also staggered like the pickups. - Bridges. The 12-string is a regular Tune-O-Matic style bridge. It's been sanded and refinished in black to match the other bridge. The 6-string side is an Ibanez LoPro Edge trem. This thing had about 2 hours of play time on it when I picked it up from a friend. Great trem...right price. :-) - Tuners are about 90% finished. The 6-string side is done, but the 12-string side isn't complete. I have tuners, but I'm still searching for 6 LEFTY, pre-owned/slightly worn cosmo black tuners. If you guys see any around, feel free to email me. As of today, I have 2 lefty tuners and 4 righty tuners on the lower part of the 12-string neck. It works, but it looks like poo. :-) - Cavity covers. As you can see from the first pics, there aren't any. :-) Currently, I have some thin cardboard (from a Pepsi 12-pack case) covering the cavities. Pickguard material is on the way. They'll be cut as soon as it arrives. Note: the current covers are cut to fit perfectly. When the p/g material arrives, I can simply use them as templates and get to cutting. Pretty slick, eh? - The case is courtesy of some guy who didn't want the case for his Danelectro double neck. LOL I picked it up from a local guitar store for less than $30 (brand new!). With some minor Demel work, the guitar fits right in there. No- I would not ship it in this case alone. I'd need some extra covering. But, for taking to local gigs, or driving down to FL in June, it works just fine. Hmmm...might have to paint that yellow though. Maybe some purple elephant tolex.... So, with a few steps left to go, I have a very sweet, and fully-playable double neck JEM. I'll try to take some other pics of it this weekend (if the sun ever comes out). Questions or comments are welcome.
  24. Flash is cool, but sometimes it's the simple things say the most. :-)
  25. Well, Glen banned me from that other site for HELPING, EDUCATING and posting FACTS. I'm here now. I hope you folks can appreciate those things. Bri- if you need Staff, I'm here for ya. I think my record speaks for itself; not unblemished, but certainly a record nonetheless. LOL Moderator From Hell is my name; Making sure posts go in the right topic is my game. :-)
