  1. I like the air guitar. I have an 11 month old boy. Here's my first attempt at building - it's in progress. I have 2 1974 Guild S-100's with the acorn motif - this will be the mini. I can't figure out how to post picture but here's link - sorry if this violates forum policy. http://new.photos.yahoo.com/benglaus2/phot...8804125074605/0
  2. Thanks, i-j-c. I was thinking of the smaller single guitar display, but this is nice also.
  3. Forgive me if this is the wrong area for post. I was wondering if anyone had experience building display cases like the ones you see at displayandplay.com. They're selling for $800 + tax. Seems like you could build these for way less. I'm asking because I recently bought a '74 Guild Polara (like the SG, only it's more "player friendly" because the bottom horn is "smaller") with the acorn design carved into it and it's absolutely stunning, it's really the only guitar I've ever wanted. The pickups rate right up there with any Gibson PAF I've ever heard. We're totally in love and I'd like to have a nice display case. If you have any pics of cases you've built, I'd love to see them as well as any advice for gluing in the interior "velvet" or what have you. Ballpark price for materials? I don't care for a natural finish, I'd probably paint it solid anyways or cover it with vinyl so cheap wood from Lowes or Home Depot would be fine. I'm totally concerned about how to mount this thing safely - I'd mount it in concrete if I had to. By the way, this weekend I met a guy who has a '58 Flying V, yes that's right, a 58 Flying V! I read somewhere recently that only 98 where produced in 1958/59. He bought it new and has had it ever since. Plays out in St. Louis all the time, old time rock and roll. He said it's been refinished probably 8 times. Plays like a dream. It was awesome. Isn't it amazing that when he bought that V, rock and roll wasn't even acceptable. It really stripped my gears. Thanks for your time.
  4. The old time double mute as seen on the high dollar Gretsch's Falcons and such - I was wondering if anyone knew how these things work. I took a look at the Gretsch parts list (price list for accessories) on their webpage and didn't see them listed. I'm sure it's not too mechanically difficult, a lever of some sort that locks in. But if anyone with one of these or someone who has taken them their Gretsch apart (I know, for God's sake why?) has any ideas or better yet pictures or diagrams, I'd appreciate it. They're just so cool and I'm wondering if I can hide one under a pickguard where I've routed the electronics. We're just talking about a lever that locks in the "up" position. I'm just having troubles visualizing it. Thanks!
  5. Does anyone know where I can find gold sparkle binding as seen on the Gretsch Falcons? I've seen www.custominlay.com but wondered if there were any other vendors. sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question, thank you.
  6. Hello, I'm wanting to rout the cavity for placing a truss rod and I was wondering about the positioning of the rod. How far into the body of the guitar can I go - all the way until I run out of room for the pickup? If I go way into the body, should I just make sure to adjust the truss rod length so that the middle of the bow is at the middle of the fret length scale? One last question, when you talk about the scale of a guitar - is it measured from nut to bridge or nut to tailpiece? Further, do you measure from the edge of the nut (I'm assuming) or the center of the nut. Thanks for your help!
