  1. Are you thinking of recessing it? Because that's the only way that bridge is going to get to 12,70mm. The main piece is 12,70mm then there are the mounting studs wich protude 1,57 off the body. And then there's the mounting screws wich at minimum would set the bridge at least about 2mm off the body.
  2. Actually the length of the "dead string" as you call it does matter since the string has a degree of elasticity. It's true that the tension is going to be the same over the whole length of the string, but module of elasticity applies as percentage of elastic deformation over the entire length. This means that the actual deformation measured in mm will be greater the longer the string is. imagine having a 10m long string at the required tension to be tuned to pitch over 25", this string will deform elastically a lot more than a 1m long string (although the relative deformation will be the same).
  3. I'm not dead set on lacquer, but I want a finish that will not affect the resonance, as drums have to resonate a lot. how about this... You spray two shells with different finishes...do a double blind test and see if you can tell the difference...
  4. If you're looking for the most durable finish there are other options than laquer that would be more suited, also since you're gonna pretty large areas I'd say that you'll be closing in on break-even on the cost effectiveness of a spray system. Also if you don't like waiting there are definitely better options than nitro etc. So is there any specific reason you want to go with laquer?
  5. they're about 2/3 neck and 1/3 fingerboard
  6. just a tip to avoid future quadrouple posts... You can check "quote" on all posts you want to reply to, then press reply to reply to all of them in a single post.
  7. I'd recommend you to give leveling the frets a shot. Finding a perfect match for a cheap replica might prove difficult unless it's done to exact fender specs or something.
  8. Ok, finished the coverplate for the headstock (spare sanding and polishing) and also drilled for, and mounted, the tuners. How the dot's turned out
  9. To me this sounds like a seriously personal and awesome guitar with lot's of history as it is. I'd go for the re-crown and keep the guitar with the mods that it has at the moment and if you want a customised sg...build one Any chance of some pictures?
  10. Put some side dots on the neck today I used aluminium wire used for welding 2,4mm on all dots except 12 & 24 where I used 3,2mm.
  11. You don't happen to have any detailed plans on that bridge that you'd like to share?
  12. The new danelectro pedals have 3pdt switches and true bypass, however I'm assuming this is an old one. I'd try to build a pedal from scratch instead, won't cost you much since most of the expensive parts can be omitted.
  13. I still can't see how the tuners are supposed to mount? Any possibility of placing the tuners there as a mock-up and taking the picture?
  14. That's the half-finished state the enclosure is in at the moment. You should really give effects building a go Strandberg, really rewarding and I feel you get a better understanding on all of the controls of the effect. Also I think it's great because it doesn't take as long as building guitars, so it's a great thing to whip together while waiting for a finish to dry perhaps..
  15. What type of 'replacement' wouldn't be a sticker ??
  16. Built a replica of a lovetone meatball, here's the original Lovetone website Here are some soundclips of my Swedish meatball
  17. Thanks guys! I'm going to try to aquire some wood for the body in the near future. Since it's not going to be visible I could go with pretty much anything I guess. I've been wanting to try some scandinavian birch for some time, mostly because I used to have a sonor drumkit made of birch wich sounded awesome. Can't recall seeing (or hearing) any guitar made of birch, anyone else have any experience on that matter? Also I've been tempted to add some on board effects to this guitar. Just gotta find a coupe of useful ones, any suggestions here?
  18. Cut the headstock today and made a matching coverplate in aluminium.
  19. A led would require a 3pdt switch for true bypassing. There are alternatives with a dpdt switch for wiring with an indicator LED such as the millenium bypass, wich is a really simple circuit.
  20. I think, since we often speak of neck and fingerboards as diferent objects, that the most logical description of a one piece neck would be a neck made out of one piece of wood, with no joints or laminations.
  21. I like this crazy thing. I think that the headstock would have looked better, while still looking unique, if it where at a little less angle also generating a straigher string pull
  22. Some people will tell you not to, claiming that the gears where not meant to run that way. If these people actually have any proof or expertise on the subject is up to you to decide. I've done it with an entire set without much problem (made an error when planning out the headstock and was forced to). Guitarfetish sells 4+2 gotoh style sets btw.
  23. I posted that while you where replying to the original question. It'd be nice to see a drawing on how you're gonna pull this of, I've got some ideas of my own that I might put into practise one day.
  24. stayed a bit longer and got even more work done!
