  1. Thanks, gonna go to work making my jig and see how it comes out. If it doesn't go well I can always make bird houses.
  2. Thanks, as I suspected I did screw up the search - only searched the last 30 days! There's a wealth of information there. Sounds like the angled jig is the way to go. With my router skills it will probably look like I used a chisel anyway.
  3. Real novice here. I've tried the seach function but didn't find anything on this - could be I didn't search correctly? but here goes. I'm building my first guitar and it's mainly for practice using some parts I've had laying around for years (neck, pick ups, bridge, tailpiece). I've cut the body out of home depot pine (practice remember). The guitar I'm trying to build will be roughly a ES335 copy since the neck I'm using is an Epiphone copy of the 335. So now I've got a solid pice of wood 1 1/2 inches thick shapped like a guitar. How do I route a neck pocket for an angled or (tilted?) bolt on neck like the 335 with a tuneomatic bridge? I'll be glueing on a plywood arched top and back from an old silvertone that's been in the atic for 20 years. The sides separated years ago from the heat but the top and back still look good. I know it sounds kind of goofy but it's to develop some skills I don't have before trying the real thing. I've got an Epi 335 copy I'm using for measurements. Thanks
  4. Congradulations, I was watching it but fell asleep or something when it came time to bid (I'm one of the lurkers). Could have kicked myself when I saw the winning bid amount!
  5. Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna give it a try with some cheap wood and see how it comes out. The pic I saw of the Brian May guitar copies at http://www.brianmaycentral.com/copies.html look great. I can always get a 335 copy body and bolt a guitar together if this is beyond my skill level.
  6. Thanks I'll check it out. Thought about getting a simi-hollow body on ebay but got this hankerin to make something. Hadn't thought about selling it but who knows? After I turn a lot of wood into sawdust that may be the best thing to do.
  7. Hey thanks for the quick reply. The distance is 12". Looks like a good true bolt on neck. It's a tune a matic bridge (I think that's what they're called). An adjustment for each string with knurled wheels to raise and lower it, on a wodden bridge. Has a Tremalo tailpiece also. I have a complete Epi 335 I got these parts with about 20 years ago. Been in a box ever since. Just like a novice, I didn't consider the arched top problem! Just normal hand tools, router, dremel, cheapo jig saw. (made a few bird houses haha). Raeady to buy what I need within reason though.
  8. New to the forum and guitar building. Before really plunging into building I'm considering this project. Have a neck, pick ups, bridge, etc (no body) from a Japanese mid 70's Epi 335 copy. I'd like to try making a LP style solid body for it for experience. I guess my question is "am I nuts?". Is it worth the effort?
