  1. I just bought 80 bucks worth in different colours off Rockler. Here's one a guy did in the Woodburst Bing Cherry (about 10 coats he said): I heard some reports of success before I asked here, so I'm going to give it a try with multiple coats of Navy, Phthalo Blue and Phthalo green on some scrap ash and then finish over everything with Tru Oil if it works out. Sort of a stripey carrieburst. Thanks for the warning. I'll prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If successful I'll post back here with results.
  2. Hi! Thanks for your reply. I posted this thread back on August 11th just after I joined. Bumped it yesterday. If I were to apply the stain in multiple coats would it look any better?
  3. Got this unfinished body on the 'bay for a good price. Nice funky maple top with bird's eye and flame. I'm going use Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil to finish it. Questions: 1. It's got a knot in the lower horn, so I need to find a way to finish this much darker than the top? Is there an easy way to do this under Tru-Oil? Will the Tru Oil make it hardly noticeable or make it stand out? Should I sand the grooves away and have a very slighty different contour on the lower heel? 2. If I do try to make a darker finish around the back and sides, how do I make a nice sharp even line where the natural finish top meets the stain on the side? Please comment on how to deal with the scar most easily and successfully as well. Thanks in advance for your advice!
  4. I'm finishing a couple of ash bass bodies and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the woodburst colored tung oil products. I saw a picture of a bass done in the Bing Cherry and it looked very nice. So now I may take the plunge and do one bas in black/navy blue and another in a dark walnut color. Does the stuff work extremely well and is it easy to apply? Can I use the Birchwood Casey pore filler product after using the tung oil? Thinking of finishing in black, applying pore filler and sanding back, and then adding several coats of navy blue. Then I would finish the body with the Birchwood Casey gunstock wax. So any opinions on the Woodburst stuff?
