  1. I'm thinking about replacing the pickups in an old Ibanez RG (the pickups are in an HSH configuration). I'm pretty well settled on a Dimarzio D Sonic (DP207) in the bridge, but I'm not sure what to do about the middle and neck pickups. I'm kind of thinking about a Dimarzio Air Norton (DP193) in the neck but am not 100% sure on that. I like the sound of both, I'm just wondering if anyone can offer any input on how they sound together or if there are better combinations. Also I haven't the slightest clue about what to do with the middle pickup. So any input at all would be great. Just so that you have an idea of the type of sound I'm going for, I like to play some blues (à la Albert King, SRV, etc.) and a lot of Prog rock and metal (à la Dream Theater, Maiden, etc.). Thank you very much to anyone who offers any input.
  2. I've heard from one or two people that the book How to Create a Factory Guitar Finish With Just a Couple of Spray Cans by John Gleneicki is a good one (I've got no experience with it so I don't know for sure). Anyone have any feed back on that one?
  3. I am wondering if anyone knows what a Tone Block is and how a person could go about putting one into a home made guitar. The reason I am asking is because I was reading about the John Petrucci Ball Family Reserve guitar on the Ernie Ball/Music Man website, and the site says the guitar has a mahogany tone block in it. If it is reasonable to do so, I would like to include a tone block in a guitar which I plan to build myself. If that's an idea that's way out in left field, then at least I'll know what a tone block is. haha. Thanks in advance for anyone and everyone's input. P.S. The link to the John Petrucci BFR on the EB/MM site is http://www.music-man.com/jp_BFR7.html
