  1. does anyone have dimensions on the higher end neck through randy rhoads guitars? I have templates coming so i have the body shape just need to know body thinckness and neck thickness at the 1st, 12th, and last fret before it connects to the body. All help is greatly appreciated.
  2. the more im thinking about the build the more it is changing in my mind, i am now thinking of doing a set flamed maple neck instead of a through neck. The body would change to a full alder body with flamed maple front and back.
  3. does anybody have rhoads measurements? i dont think my templates will be here in time for when i go get my wood. also how long are your neck through blanks when you start? I wanted to do a one piece through flamed maple neck but am having a hard time finding a blank long enough.... Also am thinking possible a 5 piece maple/walnut neck.
  4. a guy on ebay has them his name is aiguitars i believe, he is the one on there that sales the ibanez pryamids and jem vine inlays. He has lots of different inlays he can do that arent listed such as prs birds and those v's, you just have to contact him and ask.
  5. well as i start to put this build together more im starting to think the bats arent going to fit not with the way im going, they will just stand out. Im looking for inlay set possiblities. I wanted some V's like this . I didnt really realize till i looked it up how close those bats were to the batman icon, didnt really mean to go that way at all. I was able to find the inlays i wanted, so will be buying those. And i wil be going down to get my wood on the 2nd of july. Now just have to go to the guitar store and get measuments off the rhoads model, and wait for my templates to show up.

  7. There is absolutely no problem here - just add the top thickness in this place (here). In other words you have to make the "body part" of the neck thinner (and don't forgert abouth the angle between fingerboadr surface and body surface, it differs depending on bridge type). that is what i figured i had to do, just need to keep searching so i can find some pics of how others did it. Here are a couple of pics of the inlays

  9. i did get them on ebay a long time ago and never used them. ill get a pic up tonight
  10. I haven't posted on here in a long time. 2-3 years. I gave up building in lou of some other hobbies I picked, but a part of me always missed building, so im back. The build wont acutally start for a few more weeks as i am still panning everything out. Here is what i have thus far. Jackson Randy Rhodes V Neck-Through Construction Flamed Maple Neck w/ Reverse headstock Flamed Maple Top Mohogany or Alder Wings (can't make up my mind) Flamed Maple Bound Ebony Fretboard Bat Inlays Chrome Hardware Emg's or maybe Duncan Blackouts I will going down to pick up my wood in a couple of weeks. What i have been trying to find is neck through builds and the search isnt working very well for me. I more i am thinking about what i want to do the more i am confussing myself about how to build it. How do you guys do exotic topped guitars to where the neck doesnt show through on the front and only on the back? Cause if you glue the sides on the neck then when u glue the top on it will all sit higher then neck if that makes since at all. I can't seem to figure this out. Any and all help is appreciated
  11. i apprecate the info guys, andy depaule was the first place i went for them as i knew he used to have them but it appears no more. I found a guy on ebay who does them but just doesnt have them listed, lawsuit issues im guessing.
  12. well problem with that is that website is in another language. plus i dont think they ship state side.
  13. I've been looking around for quite a while and i cant find anything. Anyone know where to get some?
  14. Welp, im raising this post back up from the dead. I pulled these guitars back outta my closet as i am ready to start working on them again, and im not sure what im going to do, i look at them and just am not satisfied with them. I look at them and know i can do better, so im thinking about scraping them and starting over, i want these two guitars, but want them to be perfect and now looking at these they are far from perfect. Ill let you guys know what i decide.
  15. I play an epi les paul custom right now. Has 9's on it. Bought it off of musicians friend never done any set up work on it, felt fine out of the box. Oh and thanks for all the suggestions guys.
  16. I think this is one of my big problems, i dont do any warm up exercises when i start, just jump into some mettalica or whatever. Thats going to change. Also i have a few gilbert exercises written down on paper that im going to start doing. Im also starting to learn his song called scarified, one of the coolest songs i heard in a long time. Im taking it nice and slow.
  17. Well i started playing 4 and 1/2 years ago. It was 8th grand summer and i had spent all my graduation money on a guitar. I started taking lessons from a guy at a local guitar shop and he focused on learning to read music more then anything. Mean while i didnt know i was learning to play completely wrong. He would never say anything to about how my hand rested on the guitar or anything. I stopped taking lessons and started taking guitar class at school took it for three years. Then i started taking lessons again from a different guy. He told me how i learned to play was the wrong way and thats why after like 30-40 min of playing my hand starts to cramp up and hurt like a mother told i took the short cut way (didnt know i was taking the short cut way). Well i ran outta money and had to stop taking lessons from him as well (lessons are 80 bucks a month here). I havent really sat down and played for about 5 months maybe longer. And now i can barely go 10-20 min without my hand cramping up. So im coming to you guys as my last resort. Teach me how to play correctly please, pics vids whatever you got.
  18. I think it's the other way around. There is some kinda color streaks in the acrylics......that when the led light are out, show up as all these colors......then when the led lights are switched on, one of these colors shows up. Green led, green streaks, while rest become invicible. But how excatly it's done......I'm no light/led expert. Thing is, for 20th JEM I think it's a very stupid guitar. I would never pay $6000-7000 for Acrylic guitar. Unless........ I dont even know if i would pay 6000-7000 for that one lol. What i dont understand is if the strands were glow in the dark, wouldnt they glow in the dark the color they are? When the switch is pulled all the strands turn green. As for making a mold i think im gonna try this, my dad is gonna start getting into fiberglassing and he would have to make molds for what he wants to do so i guess i could learn with him.
  19. Has anyone seen Vai's new guitar? Its made outta plastic they say its "resin" and has these little green, yellow, pink, and orange wigglely things through it. Then when you pull the tone knob the whole thing lights up and glows green and the wigglely things get really bright. If you haven't seen it here is the link. Pop it up then sit there and watch it for a couple min and it will do the glow thing
  20. damn a bubinga body thing is gonne weigh a ton
  21. I understand what your saying now man, we are gonna fab some new rails this weekend and see if that helps.
  22. We tried going fast, slow, up and down, and left to right. It seemed to work best to start on the outside and go up and down all the way over to the otherside. Also there are some deep cuts cause we were playing around with the depth of the router vs stylus and just really seeing what it all could do. And maiden do you mean make the distence between the router and the stylus longer apart, or keep them where they are at and just extend the whole piece, and a person walking a tight rope with that long pole thing.
  23. Well got done messing around with it today. Now i have to design some type of clamping method. Here are the results of messing around *note i know your seeing a piece of flamed maple get used as a test piece, but trust me this was an old neck from my last guitar, i messed it up and ive had it sitting around the house, final put it to use.* The machine is definitely cool, but im not sure i like it. As i was moving this little stylus around i found myself saying, whats the point of this. Just cause im moving around a little stylus doesnt make me a guitar builder. Makes me feel like im cheating, with that said, im going to keep playing with the machine till it can do exact copies no problem. After that i dont know if i will be using it much, maybe just for templates or something.
  24. Man this thing is really cool, been playing with it today and found out its very sensitive. Im just playing around, trying to make a copy of a jem neck, ill post some pics when im done with it.
  25. I bought tons of diff stylus that are made the same exact size as the bit. I have large ones for doing basic shaping and smaller sizes for doing fine detail work. I bought the stylus from a company that actually makes duplicarving machines for guitars, and i bought there basic guitar bit set, there actually have even smaller ones lol. Heres a pic to show what i mean.
