  1. Hmmmm, this is a sticky situation. I've just now discovered a crack in the fret board. It's in the middle of the board, going from the nut about a quarter of the way towards the first fret. so its pretty small but, Is it likely my problems with sharp fretted notes are a result of this? If so im going to try and get my money back and buy a cheap new guitar cos this one is turnin out to be more hassle than its worth. Thanks for all the help
  2. Idch: I don't think it was a slide guitar, The guy i bought it from hasn't used it in a while so i think the high action is a result of that i've got a picture of the nut, not sure if its what you wanted but yeah Nut Primal: I wasn't sure if this was a problem, but i thought it might be. The fretted notes on each string are sharper than the open notes. Maybe this is an intonation thing but the angled neck thing worried me, it does need new strings, maybe thats it. The bridge is tilting forward, but maybe thats the way its supposed to be. I think im gonna buy some new strings and sit down and clean it up and try and set the intonation etc. ill come back if its still out of tune etc. also woodsman its not a trem its a fixed bridge. tune o matic maybe? im not sure of the name thanks for the help
  3. I recently bought a second hand guitar, not expensive, a cheap BC rich warlock to use for alternate tunings etc. Anyway, i've noticed a couple of things that im hoping i can fix myself, otherwise its a 45 quid setup at a guitar shop (£ not $). first i think the neck is angled backwards, its difficult to see in the pic but you can make it out. Neck Also the bridge is angled forward, though im guessing this is easier to fix that the neck, maybe. Apologies again for the poor picture Bridge Any help is greatly appreciated
  4. Hi, I'm looking at piezo pickups at the moment to put in a guitar (a fishman one to be precise), and it says one of their powerchip Blender pots is required so that the magnetic pickups dont short out the piezo pickups, if they're all connected together. But i was wondering if putting a two-way switch in (piezo only - magnetic only) would solve the problem of having to buy one of these? I'm thinking it would keep the circuits seperate so the magnetics wouldn't short the piezo, but I'm only guessing really. I would buy one but the pickup itself is expensive enough, and i don't feel confident enough to put in a battery box. But anyway, comments appreciated as I'm not very experienced with guitar electronics, so apologies for any terminology errors and things like that.
  5. Hi, i don't know a lot about piezo pickups i must confess, and i was just now toying with the idea of putting a piezo pickup in a guitar i'm customising, but on manufactured guitars with piezos they always have a seperate output for the piezo (maybe not always, but from my experience). so i've come to ask some questions - Does a piezo always require a seperate output? theres possibly a reason behind this i dont know like complications with the other pups or something i don't know - How easy is it to install a piezo and does it require any special electronics or anything? Any help is appreciated!
  6. Hi, i've just recently removed the neck from my fender strat copy to draw around the body as im customising it and what to draw some designs. Anyhow, this might be a stupid question but will the neck warp at all? Help Appreciated
  7. Hi, i've just recently signed up for the forums and i'm new to the world of finishing guitars. I'm planning to "customise" my first ever guitar which is a nice and cheap Fender Strat copy, i'm hoping i might be able to make something decent out of it and i have a question about finishing the neck. Is it possible and/or safe to use wood dye on the neck? You see i'm planning to do the body dark probably and i'd rather the neck was, or at least looked like, a darker wood, so im just wondering if it's wise to use a wood dye to save having to buy a different neck for the look i want. all comments are appreciated as i'll need all the help i can get I also have some questions in the general guitar tech forum if anyone wants to help me out even more! thanks in advance for any and all comments
  8. Hello all, as you can tell from the title i'm new to this forum and also to working on guitars and i just have a couple of questions. I am planning to "customise" my first guitar, a good old fender strat copy, very cheap, but i figured i'd like to try and make something decent out of it, but i have little idea what to do so i have some questions: -is it possible to install humbuckers on it? -is it possible to install a different bridge to the one it has (i.e. installing a locking trem etc. as opposed to a hardtail)? -and this is less of a possibility but is it possible to install a baritone neck on the guitar? Very basic questions im sure but i'm new so any comments are greatly appreciated. I'm putting some finishing questions in the appropriate forum just incase anyone wants to be extra helpful! thanks in advance for any and all comments
