  1. I use a 1/4" surface trimmer With wings ! - mighty big fun and gets it done fast and smooth. Jem
  2. Not that i have any experiance with spalted maple at all i'd say that dying it could be problematic due to the nature of the wood. Spalting occur's, as far as i gather, due to fungal ingress so the wood tends to not be very stable and it may be that if you dye it you run the risk of it coming out blotchey. If you want to colour it i'd use a tinted lacquer but even then test it on scrap FIRST. Drak, on this board, is the spalted king, perhaps he'll chime in with some confirmation. Jem.
  3. OK, so if you're not at the 'finished' stage then it's not a problem pressuming it's an angled G*ison style headstock - a F*ender type will be more tricky but just as do'able. Just thin the top of your headstock by the required amount (take less off rather than more!) and wait for the completed piece to arrive and then just glue it down or better still do everything else bar the final thicknessing and wait for it to arrive just to be on the safe side. Jem
  4. Not really the best way round of doing it but yes, you could do it depending on what stage of 'originally finished' the necks at. Most shell is between 1 > 1.6mm so you'd have to have a veneer of around 2mm minimum so you'd have to loose, in theory, at least 2mm from the front face of the headstock which depending at what stage you're done to it could be a right P.I.T.A. especially if you make a mistake and trash it in some way. As with most things, it can be done but you may be presenting yourself with more of a headache than it's worth again depending exactly how far down the 'finished' road you are. Jem
  5. Christ on a bike, i thought my ex wife was full of s**t but this kiddie really throws the anchor out !
  6. You don't always get what you pay for - let's say $3 better
  7. Schaller made most of the original Floyd's back in the day so, as Wes said, you'd be happy with both. Due to the slightly shorter stock on the Schaller a lot of people use these if you're going to recess it into the body but it's your build so choose whatever you fancy. I use Schaller for the guitars i build but that just may be the fact i'm in Europe and Schaller's are more available than OFR's. Jem.
  8. my fault - thirty years ago when i was still at school i felt i was wasting enough of my life on alcohol and T.H.C not to waste 3 years doing latin
  9. Rich, this is why i called out for your verification oh great timber guru. Couldn't have someone along the way standardised the names for crying out loud - confusing or what Jem
  10. I use it for bodies (GOTM last September for example) and have on occassion used it for necks. I can't think that Sycamore over there would be any different from Sycamore over here but perhaps someone like Rich (Fryovanni) can set the record straight. Jem
  11. Hamer did a finish almost exactly like that in the late 80's / early 90's. The finish was airbrushed - each one was different - and was not a swirl as such. Jem
  12. I've just had a response from my Ebay question about the soundclip that he posted on Youtube and the answer was 'SOFTWARE' - nothing more, nothing less.........what a dickhead. Jem.
  13. Perhaps we could ask him where the Youtube soundbite came from seeing it's never been wired up. Man, much more of this and i'll have to take a half day to go home and change my pants i'm laughing so much

  15. Sad little public schoolboy who's scared to come out of the closet !
  16. Basically it just looks like his crayon's ran out and mummy wouldn't fill his jam jar so he could switch to his paint box. If someone tattoo'd me to that standard i'd knife 'em without a blink. Anyways, i wonder if this little toad is local to anyone, probably piss his pants if anyone turned up on the door and asked to take a look at his wonderous luthiery skills ! Jem Just seen B'frogs ebay post - anybody in the Mansfield area fancy taking a look ?

  18. Rescue Pearl list some on thier sell-off page, may be worth dropping them a line. jem
  19. Looks quite neat Wez. I did a Hiwatt cab when i was 18'ish (25 years ago!) and ended up with more of my Levi's stuck to the cab than tolex....not a job i've ever attempted since needless to say.
  20. How bloody rock and roll is that....i would say 'you completely nailed that style' but the joke police are hot on my heels. Jem
  21. Without commenting on what you're actually trying to do, yes, you could just saw straight through the dots. Jem
  22. Neither have i which may be a reason to have a go ! Jem
  23. I would think you'd be better off buying one of these UK Ebay - only from what people say, never used one myself. Jem. Hmmm, link doesn't (or may not work) - just type Preval into ebay.
