  1. Hey guys! I recently purchased a Marshall MG250DFX new from a musical store and i've been playing around with it. What i am trying to achieve is the "Eddie Van Halen" brown sound sort of..... The guitar that im using is a Mexican Fender Stratocastor. I know that eddie did not use the single coils like i am with this guitar, but is there anyway i can still come close to achieving something similar to that sound? And what do you guys suggest settings for, for a HUGE heavy metal (like death metal) band? Thanks, Robbie
  2. Hey folks Im in the middle of doing my own EVH 5150 replica and i need a kramer baretta/pacer STYLE (doesnt have to be the real deal) full maple neck (including maple fretboard). It can be anymake as the headstock will be painted and such. Anyone know who/what can help me? I've searched ebay forever to find one, and they are all so expensive! Thanks! Robbie
  3. I am doing the same thing with a Fender Knockoff I just bought for 30 bucks off a buddy. Just one thing dude, make sure you dont cut the headstock off and glue at the end grains, trust me, in 2 years, this will be more than hell to you if you do.
  4. Hey! I bought a " Nova" guitar body and neck for 30 bucks from a friend. I am planning to only have a cavity for 1 humbucker with a pickguard only covering the controls area (Like the EVH 5150 guitars). What can I use as a filler to fill these cavities? Also, the neck headstock shape looks attrocious. Can I cut it off, replace the piece of maple and reshape the headstock without altering the tone SIGNIFICANTLY? Aswell, it has a rosewood fretboard which i want to remove to just have a maple fret board. Can i just remove it and put on a maple fretboard and install the frets myself? Thanks Robbie
  5. Hey Man!! Nice job on that axe! Boy am i jealous. I am thinking about doing the exact same thing. A kid at my school is offering me a fender knockoff guitar and neck for 50 bucks and like how can i miss out on that so im going to pick it up and do a EvH replica JUST like that one! Just how much did everything cost? I can get paint DIRT cheap from through my school but how much did everything else cost? And by the way, did the filling of the cavity affect the sound at all? And if no, would Autobody filler (bondo) affect the sound? Thanks Robbie
  6. I have a small Fender Bullet Reverb (15 watt) amp in my bedroom. I also have these two unused speakers in my room beside them. I was wondering if it is possible to connect these two speakers to the amp. I thought before that i could use this little attachment piece to connect to the headphone wire and then the headphone wire could connect to at least one speaker. Just nothing works, i know this was a stupid attempt though. So, if its possible, anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Robbie
  7. Okay Sounds good guys thanks alot for the info. However, if this will get dirty, what kind of finish do i apply to it? I have basically everything you can imagine in spray equiptment and I have the ability to purchase any type of paint or chemical like that through my school. Thanks, Robbie
  8. I have some purple heart sitting out in my shop/garage (probably the worst place to have it, living here in Canada ) and it seems to me such a good idea to be used for fretboards! Originally, i talked to one of the shop teachers at my highschool and he told me purple heart is one of his favourite woods, but when sanding i must wear a respirator because its dust and fumes are highly toxic. Im not sure if hes full of **** or not. So! Am i digging my gave by using this or is it a good idea? Thanks, Rob
  9. I've looked and looked and looked for some kind of tutorial for this fox bender. My dad thinks he can help me build it (im 15 years old, incase you didn't know ). Just, i would have to change the wooden sides to whatever body shape im bending. Isn't that such a waste of time? Like, can someone prove me wrong here and show me how to get this fox bender built for my "to come" es-335. Thanks Robbie
  10. Hey guys! Sorry if this is allready asked somewhere....but i searched for hours and couldn't find anything. I was wonder, if i make a hollowbody guitar, and choose the "bending the wood" method, what do i use for the mold? and where do i get it? I am assuming i have to make it out of some think plywood (multiple sheets glued together). So....someone give me and explanation of doing this? Thanks guys! Rob
  11. When doing this, would it be easier and better to bend the sides? Or would it be easy to have everything glued together and just use the router for an hour or two and route out the whole chamber? Robbie
  12. Thanks alot Keith. You really helped me out. Now i am sure i can build this baby with my new plans . I really owe ya one! I figured how to print it out properly......and i realised i was the biggest goof in the world and that it was extremely simple. Thanks SO much dude! Robbie BTW! im using TurboCAD Learning Edition
  13. Ok, well i have a free downloaded template from Guitar Build and I did a measurement check of the distance from the widest point on the left side of the waist to the widest point on the right side of the waist. It showed: WORLD COORDINATES: Dist = 407.83 in Correspond to the first and last points: DeltaX = 3.51 in DeltaY = -407.81 in Angle(with 0X)=270.49 I am assuming that the Dist = 407.83 is the measurement that i tried measuring. This is OBVIOUSLY not the scale, so how do i set it to true scale and then use my printer to print it out on multiple pages which i will tape together? Sorry for all the hell i probably cause here on this forum Thanks, Robbie
  14. I've considered making this for a while now and changed my mind from the standard SG model to a 335. From many forums of different sites, i get the impression that you must first make a mold of this and use a bending pipe to bend the wood (i think i could make this). However, how does it all fit together? I mean this as in, "if i bent the would to its close shape, and then clamped it in the mold, would it just move itself into the position of the mold making it completely semetrical to the other side? Or am i just a nut? I have also gathered some dimensions for this, but need kind of a "check up" on them. Here I go: Body at Widest Point: 16 1/2" Long: 20" Thick: 1 3/4" Are these right? If not, can someone correct them for me? Any effort and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robbie
  15. Hey guys, I previously just finished building my own Flying V (with the help of some people on this forum) and i've started to think about building a SG style guitar. First of all, this might be the wrong place to ask this question, and i know many people have asked it before. Does ANYONE have the exact dimensions of a Gibson SG? I downloaded the free .dfx template from www.guitarbuild.com or whatever it is. But, its obviously too big. So, i'd just need the measurements of: · Bottom of the Guitar to the Bottom of the Neck (Height) · Widest part of the Waist (hip) on the east side to the widest part of the other side. Also, for this project, im thinking about building my own humbuckers for it. I am more of a huge distortion guy and i play alot of rock. I've been looking around at alot of humbuckers and the one that I like the sound of the most is the Seymour Duncan Metal Livewire. I was wondering: · How many windings should I use? · What type of Magnet should I use? · Any other information Anyone who can help me out with this would be an amazing help! I am going to build the humbucker using the same method as John Tirone (John Fisher) but to my new specifications. So, can anybody help me out with both the SG thing and the Humbucker thing? Thanks, Rob
  16. Anyway I could get a hold of these dimensions? I've got the CAD file and i just downloaded Turbo Cad and have attempted to try to get the dimensions out of it but, no cigar! So, anyone able to help me out? Thanks, Rob
  17. Thanks for the help dude! the guitar turned out orgasmic!
  18. Yeah i've done lots of wood working and all and I finished my first FROM scratch electric guitar (FLYING V) that i need to find the electronics for. I was given a box of 2 humbuckers, some screws, etc. I need a list of the stuff that I need to buy to get this guitar up and ready. (for example, the OUTPUT JACK) Can anyone give me a list, or another link that would answer my question?
