  1. I dunno about the EMG 81/85 as I've not tried the actives yet, but I plan on doing so very soon. I recently moreless had an Epi Zakk Wylde given to me and it has the EMG HZ's in it. While they may not be as good as the actives they still give me a better tone than the Pearly Gates that I've been playing with. I plan on pulling them out and putting in an 81 and 85 and then possibly throwing the HZ's into one of my other guitars because I do like the tone that they give. If anyone knows of a good, reasonably priced site to get the EMG's please let me know. Thanks
  2. Just wondering if anyone here on the forums will be attending the 2nd annual Crossroads Guitar Festival to be held July 28th in Chicago Illinois!!! I'll be there for sure.
  3. Yep, that's it. And I have to say I've played alot of other basses (having started out on bass and switching to guitar). This is one of the best sounding basses I have ever played, and I happen to love the short scale length of it. Thanks for the link by the way. Lizard_King
  4. I've recently came across an old (60's-70's) model Les Paul Bass guitar, natural finish, set neck, short scale, everything typical of a Les Paul. My problem is I cannot find any info on this Bass anywhere. The Vintage Gibson sites have no info on it at all. I was wondering if anyone may happen to know anything about this Bass. Any info would be appericiated greatly. I would post picts but I don't have a cam Thanks Lizard_King The individual that gave the bass to me also has an old LP that the lead guitar player for REO Speedwagon used to play.
  5. I'm thinking of building another LP style guitar, but would like to use maple for the board and neck on this one. As well as make it considerably smaller. I'm thinking along the lines of a Strat neck. Has anyone tried this yet? If so, how much does it change the tone of the LP?
  6. Just updating this to let everyone know that I've decided to keep the PG's. I just bought an old strat from a really good friend (fairly cheap), so I'm going to either build me a strat and place these puppies in, or a tele. Kinda leaning towards a tele though.
  7. I'm going to have to say no on that, I'm playing nothing but blues and blues rock now. Some southern and classic rock in there as well. The pearly gates are fine as far as sound goes, I just like the single coil sound and feel of a Strat better than an LP.
  8. I have 2 almost brand new pearly gates (black/creme) pick ups that I bought new a year ago, maybe a little longer. I've installed them in my LP, but have only played it once. I like the way the pups sound, but I'm more of a strat man myself. If anyone is interested or willing to trade these 2 pick ups for a strat american or mexican, I'm sure I can make up the price difference. PM me on here, icuhearit_2@hotmail.com or icuhearit2@yahoo.com Thanks Lizard_King
  9. In my honest opinion, Johnny B Goode is one of the most requested songs when playing out in small taverns and such, along with Wipe Out, Mony Mony, and of course Every Rose. Johnny B Goode is a simple song really, and it's a song that you can be very versatile (spelling?!?) with. You can lead here and there and drag the song out forever. I love playing it, and our band has a blast with it. We do a medly with it and Move It On Over that goes over great. Lizard_King
  10. I've used cherry on two electrics so far, and I love the tone I get from it. Almost a cross between mahogany and maple. It's really easy to work with as well. And it works well for necks to. Just thought I would add my $.02. If my camera was working right I would post some picts of the two I made using cherry. One lp, and one strat style. Lizard_King
  11. Love the pg's lol. Just the sound I was looking for. Thanks again. BTW....Does anyone know where one could find 1meg pots at? Just curious.
  12. I voted for other, because it's just to hard to pick one style of music. I listen to a wide variety of music, though I have to say it's mainly classic rock, blues, 80's rock, and metal. But sometimes I like just sitting down and jamming on the acoustic for hours upon end . I lean more towards blues and classic rock though. EDIT----What about country, and disco? Lizard_King
  13. You can buy pickup screws from just about any music store, or guitar store, if you happen to have one in your area. If not then you can surely find some on line. I assume you're talking about the regular screws that were with the rings correct? If so, then you will probably need a different type of screw, there are several types of pickup screws, if anything like the ones that are on my pickup rings you will definatly need a different type of screw for direct mounting.
  14. I use titebond, or locktite wood glue myself, both seem to work rather well. I've also used probond, but you have to be careful which probound you buy, as some of them foam and expand pretty bad. Not sure which ones expanded and foamed, but if I remember I will post again and let you know.
  15. I like it, good work man. Only question is, the marks behind the bridge, will that come out when you polish it, or is it a problem with the finish? Just curious. Nice work though.
  16. Anyone else have suggestions or ideas? Any and all will be helpful. Thanks in advamce. Lizard_King
  17. It's a tight grained wood, actually really pretty when it's finished, it's alot heavier then the mahogany I have as well. I used two pieces of the dark wood and one piece of cherry to build a three piece neck with that I'm still working on. So far so good. it's all 1/4 sawn except for two pieces that I have. But all of it has some nice figuring in it. Thanks Mark
  18. I was given 8 boards, averaging 6ft in length some longer some slightly shorter, and it's all at least 6 inches wide and 1 1/4 inches thick. They guy that gave them to me, said it was African Mahogany......The thing is it looks nothing like the Mahogany I already had. It's a dark brown, has some red tint in it, even some goldish brown in it. I looked on a couple of sites, and it kinda resemble a rosewood, maybe even cocobola(spelling?!?).I just trying to find out what kind it is, and if it's suitable for making a fretboard out of. Just kinda trying to save on cost a little bit. Not cutting corners or anything just trying to find out if I can actually use this stuff or if I should just shell out some bucks and buy some more wood. I don't have a way of posting any picts, which probably doesn't help much. But if I can come up with a digital camera I'll get some up. Thanks in advance. Lizard_King
  19. Well, thanks for the info everyone. Thrash how much would that be with shipping to Illinois zip 62340? My girlfriend just bought me a fab tone and daddy o. I'm going to see how well they sound with my rig. I had a fab tone before but it was swiped while tearing down equipment and loading it in the trailer. Funny thing is, no one remembered seeing anyone up by the stage. Oh well it happens. Thanks againe everyone. PM me with shipping cost if you would thrash. Thanks
  20. Maiden how can you say that usually when people get stoned they drink as well? Hw can you say that usually when people get stoned they drink? Just because you were a cop for 3 years and in the military for 15 doesn't mean jack sh!t. You have your opinion and that's all. You made a few guys wish they had never had a drink in their life? Is that some sort of threat? I'm speaking from experience, when I did smoke pot, I only drank alcohol maybe two times while I was stoned. If you're going to make comments like that, at least say that it's your opinion instead of trying to get people to believe that it's a fact. Yes I'm sure your cousin was hijacking cars because he couldn't afford a dime bag, or he was just so strung out that he didn't know what was going on. Yeah right. Just stick to the facts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting your cousin down, and I'm not trying to piss you off at all. I've been in jail myself, I served 4 years in IDOC. But I'm not going to try to use a stupid excuse like I was high on pot and that's why I did it. Because that's a bunch of bs. Now I can say that I have done some really stupid and crazy sh!t while I was on meth. But not on pot man. Pot makes ya mellow. No pot is a gateway drug because that's what the law enforcement and rehab programs say it is. I'm done talking now, I'll continue this a little later on, right now I'm heading to band practice. Later
  21. Very nice. Classic. Thanks for posting the pict Wes.
  22. Any chance of seeing some picts of your new lp wes?
  23. Thank you skibum5545. Couldn't have said it better myself. Honestly I couldn't, I tried to a few minutes ago and it just didn't work lol
  24. Why not legalize it? How many times do you hear that such and such was killed by a driver that was stoned? You hear about people being killed by drunk drivers more then anything, or meth labs that blow up. I used to smoke pot, hell I've tried just about everything there is to try, but I haven't touched any controlled substance in a little over 3 years now, and I haven't drank alcohol in over 6 months. Now there are pros and cons that go along with everything. Some people think it shouldn't be legalized others think the opposite. To each his own in my opinion. But if it's going to happen it's going to happen. Right? In my opinion if it is legalized they should at least put an age limit on it much like that of alcohol. Granted it's not going to stop underaged people from doing it, but they haven't managed to stop minors from drinking either have they? I think it's eventually going to happen, but I also think it's going to be highly controlled, or at least it should be for that matter.
