  1. hey all, sorry another noob question lol im working on my project guitar....havent touched in in a long time.... since changing my mind about the paint job im giving the body...the problem i have is that the neck (back of the neck) wont go with it......i could put up with it but why not give it a shot, it didnt cost me anything lol so yeah, my question is, will it be the same process for refinishing as the body or is there something else i would have to do for it to keep its "playability" (by this i mean like the err..smoothness when your playing?) sorry if that sounds rambled, any help appreciated!!! matt
  2. hey all, wondered if anyone knew of a good supplier of appropriate rattle cans in the london/west london area? any help would be appreciated!!
  3. hey all, was changing the scratch plate on my guitar yesterday and accidently pulled two wires out, i need your guys help on where to solder them back too >_< looked at some wiring diagrams but dont understand them, so yeah, as best as i can explain.... its a strat SSS setup, there are two wires coming from the jack cavity, one black and one yellow, the yellow one has detached from the scratchplate, and then theres a black one, coming from the trem claw in the back, that has also detached from the scratchplate, i presume this is the ground wire, and i think it gets soldered onto the back of a pot (may be wrong) thanks! matt
  4. i have no idea what guitar it is, never seen a LP like it before! as for progress, got three of the buggers out, the last remaining bridge pole is still in there, the threads totally gone on it so i cant screw the thumbwheels on to get any leverage on the hammer, so i've taken to sort of going underneath it with a screwdriver, since the top got a bit mashed from removing the other ones (they were definatly glued in, the residue was in the hole) and its getting all sanded down after so small dents arnt really a problem, just gotta take this last one very slow edit: f**k yeah! got the bugger out and with not too much damage (superficial, sanded out quite well)
  5. i already took the thumbwheels off, the extra bits are on the same level as the body (recessed in), im planning on replacing all these parts aswell, as they are quite worn. thanks for the help, though, i'll give it a shot tomorrow morning! thanks a bunch
  6. thanks a bunch for that, i shall try that tomorrow! the only thing i dont get is the other bits (the small threaded poles that are sticking up) can they be removed to? i want to sand down the body, but obviously there getting in the way. thanks a lot for the pic's though, its a real help!! edit, btw, if you look at the pic i posted earlier, theres a bottom part to the poles that you dont have on your picture, is that what your referring to when you say old style tune o matic?
  7. ok sorry for being so stupid, i tried the top method, but it didnt seem to work? (also, i think one of the threads inside is knackered) Picture this is a snap of what im looking at (sorry for the hugeness, ie should resize it) i didnt understand the bottom method atall? sorry, the actual poles turn towards the body but not away, also, one of the threads on this is bad aswell, yes, i did get this guitar in pretty poor condition, and yes, it is horrible routing. many thanks
  8. right, i know theres a couple of tutorials on the site about removing bushings, but i just want to clarify im using the same things? ive removed the obvious parts but am left with two threaded poles sticking up where the strings would go over and then the holes with metal caps where the stop peice was. ive tried what it says on the site but its not working? help?
  9. ahh ok, so if i understand this right, it would sort of go: battery>>>>>resistor>>>>led.1>>>>resistor>>>>led2>>>>>battery is that right? also, do the wire that comes "down" off the l.e.d be bent?
  10. nice one, i've read that page, the one thing i dont understand about the wiring is what wire is actually used to connect between the led/battery/resistor? cheers
  11. exactly, lovekraft! the idea in my head is so that when the l.e.d's are lit it will show off the wiring inside. also, im not sure if i would need a switch for them or not?
  12. hey all i have aqquired an old les paul copy to do up, its pretty interesting but removing the pickguard on the front (yes, its not rear routed its got a big control plate), removing this revealed some pretty nasty routing for the p'up wires. now, one option is to fill these in BUT i had another idea, but dont know if its possible. basically, i want to make a new control plate to cover the whole routing, this isnt a problem, but i want some sort of lighting underneath that. this is where i was thinking l.e.d's, but i have no idea where to start, i was reading about general l.e.d's and how they are mounted and soldered onto a board but this would be to big to fit in the guitar, so my question is, is there a way to mount the l.e.d's inside the control route and have it powered by a battery? sorry if thats confusing i dont know a better way to put it thanks! matt
  13. poo. hmm, instead of replacing it then, can it be painted? sanded lightly then painted over? just an idea.. cheers for your replys lecompt.
  14. heya, i know know, i keep asking random noob questions, searched but couldnt find owt so here goes recently got a les paul copy, im replacing all the cream hardware with black hardware but would be left with the cream binding, is there an easy way to replace this without too much work? i dont really feel like ripping apart my new guitar.. cheers lecompt
  15. thanks for the welcome & help simo! ok, so i'm making a start on the actual body template today, after making my mind up about what i want to do, i have a few questions on that if its ok? basically, i dont want to do anything TOO hard, but i want to do a warlock body (maybe it is too hard, but y'know, challenges) to keep the whole project simple, all's i want's is one humbucker and one volume control, and a stop tail bridge (or w/e theyre called) so my first question is about the wood, i know i can buy blanks etc, but im on a really tight budget, so for the sake of scavenging, is there any "around the house" wood's that i can build a body out of? im really not looking for this to come out perfect, im just wanting to see weather i can do it. or any cheap woods or anything you guys can recommend? second is that the bc rich warlock has contours (i think, from photos?) is this just a case of cutting the body out thick (ie. one big chunk of wood) and sanding down contours to comfort? probally the most troubling question i have is another thing on the placements, should i work of a "center line"? by this i mean, on my chosen peice of wood, do i draw a center line on it then work from that? so for example say the pickup is 6" do i put it in the center so it has 3" either side of the middle line? same with the bridge etc? hope that made sense, thx for all the help lecompt.
