  1. Thanks for the comments, The maple came from a wood supplies near me, they have got loads of bits; I just got lucky on the day. I also got some iroko (spelling) but unsure if it's any good for guitars? Anyone know. As for the bridge, I think its fine, the only prob is that if you have it set too low it's a real pain to re-string as the end of the string won't fit between the bridge and the guitar body. So it's set a little higher than I would like. In hindsight I would have recessed the body to allow for it but I didn't think of that at the time. Also for the next one I’m going to invest in a proper polisher as the results aren't as good as I think you could get. Cheers,
  2. All Finished! Mahogony back, quilted maple front, dyed with a rag and laqured from a can. Not quite made fron scratch, the neck is a warmoth, but i'll give it a go next time. Truss rod cover i made at work from solid silver and mother of pearl, Seymour duncan 59 bridge, DiMaarzio air norton neck, gotoh 510 bridge and sperzel locking tuners. Can't wait to start the next one. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/DrNumpty/head.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/DrNumpty/side.jpg

  4. Are these things really that rare http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...item=3777966600
  5. I'm using a Gotoh 510 bridge, which has quite a bit of adjustment, but i'd rather have the bridge lower than adjusted right out, so maybe ill leave the neck as is. Mark
  6. Hi Guys, Ive recieved my neck from Warmoth and doing a test fit on the body noticed a gap between the finger board and the body. Is this O.K? or should i take down the heel so it fits lower. I dont like the look at the moment. Thanks guys, Mark
  7. Thanks, I'm rubbish at electronic stuff, just cant understand it. still im on the right path now. Cheers Mark
  8. Going to be wiring two humbuckers soon, Can anyone explain what -if any- difference these two wiring diagrams would make. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/DrN...ckupdiagram.jpg These aren't my drawings there from seymour duncans website, although i modified no.2 which is from guitar electronics site. So all credit to them. sorry about the external link but i wasn't sure how to add a picture . Thanks Mark
  9. Thanks for the replys, Sorry forgot to say i'm using a clear gloss over stained maple. I'll continue with the laquer, i just thought it might have a wet look to it when first sprayed. as for my other question, i pay £12 a can for nitro, allready got through three cans . cellulouse laquer i can get for £4 a can, Can these be used together? i doubt it but i thought id ask before i run out of cash and have to sell the wife . thanks again Mark
  10. Started spraying nitrocellulose lacquer (out of a can)on my guitar yesterday, six very fine coats, started putting on slightly heavier coats today, having never used nitro before should the finish have at least some shine to it as mine is very rough and dull. Looks like a matt finish. i understand it needs a polish down after about a month , just worried that it it's wrong at the start i'd rather start again than wait a month only to find it's never going to be any good. Also is there a difference between cellulose lacquer and nitrocellulose lacquer and could cellulose be used ontop of nitro? Any help appreciated Mark
  11. Try http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/ Just recieved three cans of nitro, well is says nirto on the lable. £12 each including postage, only place i found. You need a pay pal account though. Mark
  12. I was sacred stiff of making a neck so i ordered one from Warmoth, maybe next time i'll give it a go. Used a strat style neck off ebay for the cavity. but i wanted the les Paul head so ordered one. The body was made with routing templates from stewmac. i'd originally was going to have a tone switch but decide against it, routed a cavity for one anyway. so its just two humbuckers one volume one tone and a 3 way. As for pickups A DiMarzio air norton for the neck and a Seymour 59 Model for the bridge. i am planning on having a go at some inlay work on the neck. never done it before, so i'll be sure to read up on the subject here. Im a goldsmith by trade so have got all the tools (i think) not sure i've got the patients though Thanks for the reply Mark
  13. Hello, Thought i'd post a couple of pics. This is how far i've got.All done following tips and guides from this forum (thanks). First put on a dark brown stain and rubbed back. Then pretty much following Myka Guitars Tutorial http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=12912 followed up with yellow, red brown and black. I probobly should have bleached the wood first as the finish is a bit darker than i origanally wanted, but as all things it's a bit of a learning process. Mahogony back just grain filled and stained with brown. then whole guitar rubbed down to micromesh 12000 grit. Just need to put on the clear coats of nitro out of a can. Then i'll think about the neck.
  14. Thanks, Donation Made, Will post some pics ,
