  1. Absolutely rocks - without the pickup rings! Less so, with. If your routing is as clean as it looks in the pictures please leave them off!

  3. Loving the understated elegance of this build. But how about this genuine Carl Thompson for sheer OTT rainbow brilliance?! This picture doesn't do it total justice. You need to view the up-close images to appreciate why this "might be the most exotic and expensive CT Carl has ever built": link.
  4. How about a Moderne Custom Black Beauty? Black finish, 5 ply binding, gold plate, block inlays...
  5. Hipshot (http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=250) and particularly Schaller (pictured above) (http://guitar-machine-heads.com/hp135151/Artikel-Liste.htm) come to mind.
  6. Come on people - there is an easy solution to reversing this, or any other, headstock. If you are right-handed, you simply have to flip the strings over and learn to play left-handed.
  7. This got me thinking: How about a body capped with a single slice of a log, with the rings stained alternately to give a Zakk-Wylde bullseye effect? Will see if I can mock something up later.
  8. Saw this eye-catching spalted maple finish on the Dan Spitz-signature PRS prototype @ Elderly Instruments. I haven't seen anything similar before, and with spalted tops being very popular at the moment I thought it might inspire somebody to go beyond the norm. More pictures at http://www.elderly.com/vintage/items/30U-13217.htm
  9. NOTE: Topic title should read "This dramatically reduces the appearance of the joint as seen in the end grain." Had a quick look but I can't see how you can edit the title... ** I saw this technique at http://www.ronkirn.com/tutorial/index.htm [it's an in-depth Strat build tutorial] I don't remember seeing anyone use it on PG before, so thought I would post it up.
  10. I'm not generally a fan of swirls, however... The way the browns work around the upper and lower cutaways make it look very wood-like. It would be interesting to see a complete instrument in this brown swirl. It would look almost like a stained finish, yet with an impossible grain pattern. Maybe a sunburst finish around the edges to complete the illusion.
  11. I found this guitar on the Ormsby website. I really like the TOM with through-body strings, where the ferrules are placed where the tailpiece would normally go, but it's something which I've only really seen before with recessed TOMs. My Patrick Eggle New York is similar but the strings go through the body a lot further back. So my question is: are there any problems associated with such a sharp break-over angle and/or is the neck angle reduced to compensate?
