  1. Ive research a bit and i cant find a definative answer. When finishing a maple neck with a maple fretboard do you apply the same number of coats of lacquer to the neck as to the fretboard.
  2. i was just going to use good old nitro lacquer. But my question is if you put as much on the fingerboard as you do on the neck or less.
  3. yeah that helped a lot. i have curretnly in my possesion a beautiful piece of birdseye maple i would love to make into a fingerboard and make a neck form another piece. what would i finish it with. the fingerbpard i mean.
  4. do you use any type of stain/protectant/clear coat on a fingerborad before fretting/ finishing the fingerboard or is it left bare wood.
  5. i got to thinking and i was wondering if i purchase a strat style pickguard and used that as a routing template for the neck pockets relative distance to the bridge would work well.
  6. I know you probably think im stupid for asking this but do you have to sand in between coats of nitrocellulose lacquer?
  7. with the shim idea, would i need to rout the neck pocket deeper?
  8. i was thinking of making a flying v and i need a couple answers. I heard you need a neck angle and i really dont want to screw around with that because this will be my first build. Also i was thinking that a tunomatic would look that most kick ass so i would like to do that but u have to recess it if you dont want to fart around with the neck angle. Is that hard? And also if i dont use a tunomatic i would use a normal non trem hardtail. I have no idea where im going im just lost!
  9. Im finishing up my first guitar and ive heard a lot about wet sanding and polishing and buffing. My question is how can i acieve a really cool glossy finish without spending much money. Keep in mind tho i cant order anything from the internet. Also what is wet sanding?
  10. heres were im at so far... ive already put the colortone lacquer on there and thats just been there for a while. I already have 1 can of colortone clear gloss nitro lacguer and a thing of wipe on poly and im wondering if i will have enough spray clear lacquer to finish a body and neck with one can.
  11. I was thinking of doing a minwax wipe on poly urethane finish on my recently built saga guitar kit. It would go over a few coats of stewmac colortone tinted lacquer-red. Is there anything bad with the wipe on or is it a good idea? Im willing to just do a colortone clear gloss spray lacger finish but i already have the wipe on. What are so pros and cons of the wipe on and if anyone has a website with pictures of a guitar that was finished with minwax wipe on poly that would be greaty appreciated.
  12. how would a person go about getting the side countours on a gibson sg?
  13. Ok so does the scale length go from the end of the nut? And where on the bridge does it go to?
  14. Thanks for the nice welcome. I might have to try and get ahold of that book. The only knowledge i have is derived from the free stuff on the internet and the kit im working on.
  15. ok well im a total noob at build and i really want to try making a flying v with a tuneomatic or tremolo i havent decided but im working on a les paul kit right now. Its a sage lc 10 and i really have no idea how to go about making a guitar from scratch (except the neck i would buy that.)
