  1. Hey gang, does the product used to finish the guitar affect the sound of it? A friend of mine asked if I could strip/sand & then repaint one of his guitars w/ some automotive paint. HE's wanting some color he saw on something. It'll need primer, the color coat, and then clear coat. Will this affect the sound? Thanks Mark
  2. This might be a dumb question, but what's a "Thinline"? Thanks for all the help to my questions! mark
  3. Hey guys, what kind of wood a Tele is made from? I'm into country/southern rock(among other things) and I really dig the sound of a Tele. Thanks Mark
  4. hey guys, just wondering if Size & shape matter to the sound? If so, how? Thanks
  5. Thanks for the replies, guys. From the sounds of some replies, i'm going to ask a question, though it might be a dumb one, and i'm sorry if that's the case. I'm new to guitar building/construction.... someone mentioned a maple neck through w/ alder wings. Does this mean the neck continues all the way through the bod to the bottom end? thanks Mark
  6. Hey gang, I've got a question. Seems most people make the guitar body from 2 8" wide by x" long pieces. Why? Is this done because a pice 15 or 16" wide is that hard to come by, or what? And also, why do some people put a top piece on the body that's 1/4-1/2" thick. is there a reason for this, or is done for a decorative reason(like it's cheaper to get a 1/4" thick piece of birds eye than making the whole body birdseye..) Thanks for the help. Mark
  7. I've neve made a guitar, though I wouldn't mind trying, maybe just a body to start with, i don't know..... But I do do some wood work time to time. Cocobolo does indeed cause problems for many people, but not everyone. Wear a good dusk mask. Or go to an auto parts or auto body supply place, and for about 25 or 30 bucks you can get a disposable 3M respirator. These work great! serveral professional car painters I know use these. I like these, as i think they seal around the edges better than a traditional dust mask, and i think they're more comfy. Get a couple masks, & when you work with the cocobolo, have a friend hold a shop vac up to suck up the majority of the dust. Once you get a finish on the wood, it'll not cause problems for people anymore. Mark
