  1. Hi everyone, I'd like to finish my neck just like this one: you know, the color of the vintage necks.. I posted this pic because you can see near the pocket side the difference between before and after.. I tried with shellac, but I got a little different color, not what I wanted..so I'll start it again.. what is the most common way to get this? I know there's a tutorial on this site, but I can't understand what kind of colors are those suggested by the article.. maybe it is aniline? really thanks
  2. wow that's great! how did you find those coils?
  3. sorry for changing a bit the discussion..but, about the driver, the copper wire has to be "enameled", or can be used also common 0,2 wire like this: http://www.banzaieffects.com/Copper-wire-0...27372.html#tabs ?
  4. thanks for the summary Pete, great as always!
  5. wow, seems like I've missed some pages here.. does anybody could tell me what is going on now? new schematics? new ways to build this?
  6. does anyone know if you can get good results with a P90 pickup on the bridge to use with the sustainer? edit: does exist a schematic for these modified layouts? or just the layouts?
  7. I'm back does anyone could help me finding the newest and correct schematic (with the mods Pete suggested if possible) (no layout needed, just the schematic) for the use with the sust.pickup? this thread is growing always more so it is hard to find particular things.. thanks Dimitri
  8. no it is a common maple..just like the maple on standard fender strats..
  9. yeah..I've checked it yet..no problems with compatibility and spacing.. so no audible sound differences, right?
  10. Hi everyone.. I'm going to replace the bridge (vintage tremolo 6 screws) std mex strat.. I decided what bridge to buy..but since there are 2 options, complete assembly or assembly without plate, I'm wondering..the plate is really important? Could I use my actual plate and put on the guitar just the saddles and the block? Or it is really worth the 40usd for the plate?
  11. thanks guys.. I think I'm understanding.. (sorry I don't speak english as first language) Right now the neck is poly finish I think..it is a std strat..no nitro for sure.. So I can start sandind all the neck to bring the grain out..and then choose the way to tint it (shellac or toner)
  12. Hi guys, I'd like to re-finish my maple neck (with maple fretboard) because I'd like to have a more vintage yellowish color.. What I'd wondering is..do I have to remove all the frets? or I can do the work without problems, and then gently remove the finish from the frets? and then, in your opinion..the best way to get that kind of finish is the one descibed on the tutorial section on this site..or do you know other ways? for example, using shellac and then apply clear coats.. thanks Dimitri
  13. so what could be a better solution to make the fingerboard a bit glossy like on Ricks?
  14. thanks.. the one I'm using is indeed amber shellac.. How do you recommend me to use it? shellac, then sanding/smoothing a bit, then again shellac, and again..etc..? for the rosewood freatboard?
  15. Today I've tried with shellac on the back of the body..love the colour it gets! I'm wondering..could I use the shellac even on the rosewood fingerboard to get that glossy finish like on rickenbacker necks?
