  1. This is my first real project. I sanded the original " Rootbeer Metallic" off to find this gorgeous body underneath. After several crappy looking veneers I decided to keep the Basswood natural. the finish is only at #4 out of about 12-15 coats. I'm using "Watco Butcher Block oil and finish". Its already looking pretty deep and wet. Thanks again for the tutorials on stripping, sanding, finishing and most of all THE HANDLE!!! Any comments or questions are welcome.
  2. Since this is an opinion base post, I hope you don't mind my opinion. I voted that it doesn't bother me. I think you have a beautiful headstock design. Is the design the same as what you use for a six string. If so, I would maybe change the design slightly for the seven string. If it were me, I would narrow the radius (at the centers) by one "grid mark" while leaving the ends of the radius as they are. Next I would offset the G,B, and high E three "Grid marks" to the left (away from the nut). I think that would give the head a very nice "staggered" look. Finally I would probably make the tuners equi-distant from the edge. It would give the whole headstock a sexy female "figure 8" look. I know you have an established look for your headstock, but I really hope you'll consider giving your 7-string its own "signature" look while still retaining your original lines. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck. Whatever you choose, you already have a real winner!!!!
  3. Thanks Brian, I'll be tackling it tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes. Ryc
  4. Hi All OK, I'm doing a Material top (100% cotton) on my '01 RG 570. I'm planning on a "Poor boy's burst" (ala Brian). The problem has been finding a place to break the material at the heel joint (AANJ). There is no body line so I'm afraid the break (the line where the material ends) will be too obvious after the final finish. Is there a way to blend the two levels out. If not I'll do the material on the top and only the cavity covers on the back. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ryc
  5. Beautiful Guitar Gary!!!! Its origional, with classic styling and a real personality. Great Job!!! I'd be proud to have it in my collection. (If I had enough cash to start a collection, that is.......lol) Ryc BTW.........I love the Cherry nice choice!!
  6. Hey There Brian, Wanted to say that the new site has turned out GREAT!!! I am VERY impressed. If there's ever a time that I can offer up help to you or other members I'll , of course, be glad to. My main area of knowledge is in the electronics of most brands of guitars. However I'm picking up speed fast in setup, and custom finishing. (I have 6 nearly useless bodies sitting around to prove that trial and error isn't always the best source of learning......lol) Anyway, I'll keep my eyes open for new info around the web that may be useful to those here at "Project Guitar", and try to keep everyone posted on the best ways NOT to to do most projects.........lol RYC
