  1. Hey Pete, thanks for all the info and diligence here. I have read several times that you use a modified circuit as opposed to the published Fetzer Ruby. Would you mind posting a schematic (or if you already have, posting it again, since I haven't waded through this whole thing...)? I am thinking of trying to implement this in a strat type guitar but with no apparent control additions. I was thinking of making the second volume knob the volume of the circuit to the driver and making the five way switch into my selector (bridge sustainer off/bridge and neck sustainer off/neck only sustainer off/bridge sustainer on normal/bridge sustainer on harmonic mode). Would this work with just the average five way selector? I know this might require some serious rewiring inside, but that is no big deal. Is there any easy way to invert the phase of the circuit output without using a dpdt? Thanks.
  2. What about flame maple? Will the end grain there absorb the slurry? If not, then it looks like I am set.
  3. I'm going for a satin finish, so maybe it isn't all that important. I will test it out, it's just that I have some waiting to do (no free time for the thing for a little while) before I can get to it, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience. What about alder? How close grained is that?
  4. Hey guys, I am getting close to being all done with the neck pocket on my bass build, but I wanted to ask some opinions/advice. The neck fits really well, but still not quite perfectly. There are two small issues. The first is that there is maybe a 1/16" gap (could be even less than that) between the end of the neck and the end of the pocket. Is this going to be a huge issue for me and will it adversly affect performance? The other issue is that the pocket does not seem completely level from front to back, causing an angle on the neck. I pulled the neck off a Fender copy, so I assume that it requires a flat bottomed pocket just like a regulary fender, but it seems that I keep shaving off wood on the correct side of the pocket, but it doesn't seem to get any better. I don't want to just plow ahead and remove a ton of wood, but I also want to get the neck sitting perfectly in there. Any suggestions? Should I use sandpaper or chisels? Any other ideas? Thanks.
  5. Hi all, I'm new here and have been reading this thing because I am going to be finishing a bass body here shortly (I hope). I have found this information all very great but have one question. My bass is laminated maple/walnut/maple/walnut/maple/walnut/maple and I know that I am going to need to fill the pores on the walnut, but the maple I think I will leave as is. I would like to fill with the tru-oil as it means fewer materials I will need to buy, but I am wondering how I could do this and avoid getting any of the slurry into the maple. Would I be able to just sand it out if any got on there or do I need to mask it off? Masking would seem to be a pain because it seems like I would sand through the masking tape in the process of making the slurry. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated. I can only hope to aspire to a finish such as those that you guys are coming out with.
