  3. psw. i have that ultimate guitar book. some interesting stuff in there including the cornflakes box guitar, hahaha.
  4. thanks so far, theyre all avalible on amazon. i better get saving! (just bought a new mobile phone so completely broke atm) feel free to post up more
  5. Hello all. Seeing as im a newbie to the guitar world, and i really dont know much. i would like to nerd up on guitars with the help of books or internet sites and the like. a lot of the time, i dont know what people are on about half the time on here! do you lot have any reccomendations as to what books i should purchase or sites i should read? (im in the UK by the way, so british book sites if possible) i want to learn about pretty much everything bar the history, learning about the history isnt going to really end up helping me end up building a nice guitar for myself. many thanks for reading. Jono.
  6. ok this isnt my guitar, but the guitar in the pics is identical to mine. well, its actually my mums. but its the first guitar i learnt on, and i love it for the fact its of 70s vintage. (i think my mum got it new in around 1974.) http://www.bruunari.nl/pics/bl_111_pic2.jpg http://www.bruunari.nl/pics/bl_111_pic3.jpg http://www.bruunari.nl/pics/bl_111_pic4.jpg http://www.bruunari.nl/pics/bl_111_pic5.jpg is it worth anything? are they considered to be any good? im just curious about it thats all.
  7. to be honest. i think im going to go all jimmy page and just play about. i may not have much money but ill do it over time. this has been a help. and i thank you all for helping. so for now im fine, im just going to mod my guitars and im hoping to build one when i can afford a slab of wood big enough. thanks all Jono.
  8. anybody got info on this? that thing above looks interesting but i dont know how affective it would be...
  9. After discovering the fender custom shop police lead guitarists guitar, with an inbuild gain knob, and today finding a treble booster pedal youtube demonstration, its got me thinking. seeing as treble boosters cost a lot of money (i mean a lot) im thinking of incorporating a treble booster into the guitar. stealth style perhaps using a push pull pot in place of the tone knob (this would most likely be in a les paul in a future build)
  10. if i could afford a marshall plexi, i would have one. i got offered one for dirt cheap money but my mum couldnt "justify" paying that much for an amp as a christmas present, and i didnt have the money, so i had to let it go. (she hasnt looked at the real prices has she!). i have considered changing the speaker, because iv heard that it can change the sound, but i dont wanna ruin it. and that can wait anyway.
  11. i think you should be nominated for an award. if people on the car forum i was on, gave answers like you, no mini (classic) in the land would have a problem.
  12. psw dude, you have completely changed my outlook. i actually cant thank you enough. i might as well keep all my guitars, and simply modify them. its so much simpler. i may just get myself a squier tele (look i spelled it right!) be it a good one, that someone reccomends. perhaps get it off one of the for sale threads on here if theres one going.
  13. that was a very good explanation. thankyou. you are very right on that matter, the effects are overdone if im honest, as you said. you can get some really good 80s sounds out of the VT, but im after a sort of clean folky overdrive kind of sound. its VERY hard to explain. only a few people probably know what im on about. if you listen to "good times bad times" you will hear that at the beginning, there is a very powerful rocky overdriven sound, but all the overdrive i get is too gritty and powerful. im looking for something you can notice, but isnt in your face. i do like lots of different kinds of music, anything from disturbed, to sum41, to blink-182. but when it comes to playing there is only one tone that will do it for me. and its that magical zep tone. sorry if i've wound anybody up so far, i really dont know what im doing. theres so much to learn.
  14. i might be in luck. i'v been fiddling. i think a fuzztone pedal could be in order, if they still exist. i seem to have got a pretty retro sound, its just a bit heavy on the gain. its hard to explain, but the gain doesnt seem to fit, so at the moment its very acousticy.
  15. im fine with what i have. im just chasing tone at this very moment in time and are dabbling in building another guitar.
  16. i have use of a friends router. so im fine in that category. but i would rather build a good guitar before i actually think about making one.
  17. well yes i understand that. im not looking to sound exactly like him. im just after his guitar tone. thanks so far.
  18. ok so maybe i am, but im just trying to play it safe, by looking for the stuff they once used. i havnt got the money to be pissing about buying everything thats wrong, and i cant afford a marshall for that "marshall crunch" sound.
  19. so would it be better to build one from scratch? meaning i would buy the body because im not quite capable yet.
  20. do you think it would be safer to just buy a body and work up? i like a brand written on the headstock thats all, and i cant do that with something i build.
  21. GENIOUS MOMENT!. okay, i was listening to zep 1, and was thinking "didnt page use some illusive amp on this?" then i realised that yes he did.. it being a supro one. iv been looking it up, and have found this do these supro amps pop up on the internet at all? or are they all rare as hens teeth, in which case i was hoping i could replicate one by building it. with the right info on spec ect. thanks. Jono. Edit ok i just looked on ebay and they are all STUPID money, theres none in britain, and they arent the kind im on about. anyone got specs?
  22. oh thanks for the info!. i was looking at the affinity series and wondered if they would be any good. obviously not then. all the ones on ebay seem to be affinity ones. best steer clear of those ones then!
