  1. well, since i'm using a carvin neckthrough neck, i can't really... it's 1.7'' thick... i'll probable round the edges a LOT... like *really* round (except where i put my leg...) and the headstock, well, i dunno... the idea is still gonna be the same (kinda like the Parkers: Link but 4x2...) but i will be deciding and smoothing everything once i get that paddle headstock... and btw, for 10$ more, i got Carvin to make the neck without inlays (it's ebony so it'll look great ) thanks everyone btw =D
  2. it didn't look bad! it looked bad compared to THIS ONE lol here's the actual headstock... there EDIT: alright here's another version!
  3. actually, i have no idea... only LP i have tryed is an Epiphone with an opaque color
  4. Hey there, i was wondering on the effects of a cap on a neckthrough guitar... i want to keep the glue at a strict minimum and the guitar is a TOM string through for sustain and sound reasons... i want to make it look good... but i don't want to do that at the expense of sound. so: will capping the wings scrap some of the sound? what about capping the whole thing? (over the neck-through) if that's bad, where could i get 1.5'' thick quilt maple wings for cheap? (that could ship to canada too...) should i even use maple? or just something else? If it's ugly i'll probably finish it in a plain color thanks a lot!
  5. i DID change my design a few times alredy since i last posted one here, but since you don't since to like them, i decided to stop posting them... Anyways, i kinda fixed the propostions a bit... Raised the neck by a lot. I compared it with a PRS and my other guitar (both 25'' scales...). I've also gotten the tuners to line up correctly (not in this one thoug) Here it is: well, thanks again those of you who actually made helpful comments ! EDIT: WHOA!!! i just saw my older version... this is an HELL of an improvement! Really, thanks for the feedback...
  6. first off, i like my guitar design(s). I don't really care if you think i'm some idiot trying to "reinvent he weel"... At least i' not an idiot making another of those damn strats. even thoug i like what you did, Godin, i'm keeping the little curve on the bridge side of the guitar... all the designs i did have it and i think its cool. The guitar has no reasons to be unbalanced... Or for it to have the upper horn in the way! no more than any single cutaway. There's something i have realised thoug. The only reason it looks weird is because it's a nech through... I just saw the fernandes ravelle... It's somewhat looking like it yet it looks good. anyways, i'll still be building this, and i probably won't do it exactly like this (it's pretty out of proportions). I'll see if it's "ergonomic" when i make a 1:1 mock up. think what you wish, i like it.
  7. anyways, thanks all for your comments! I know not everyone likes this design, but i like it still have to see how il'll look as an actual guitar... also, this WILL be a paddle headstock... this is my custom design... inspired by parker's headstock actuall and for the balance, i don't think it will be bad for that. Worst case senario: i'll find the right place for the strap button so it's balanced revised version... thanks for your constructive comments thoug!
  8. actually, you've reminded me how the high fret access was the whole point, on paper it was at like fret 20-22... I'll try to see what i did differently in photoshop. and what do you guys think of the headstock?
  9. yup exactly what setch said... just stretch the guitar a bit. the horns look good to me! (actually, here: )
  10. Here's the design i'll (probably) be using for the guitar i'm building this summer =D was trying to do something no one done with a single cut... Neck is a Carvin neckthrough... what do you think??
  11. Alright, i found this on the net... should end a lot questions on these forums! Neck angle calculator and remember that you should put a *little* more angle since you can raise most bridges (or not? lol ) there =D
  12. i guess it would be great with a roland synth pup... would get you actually quite close to these kinda sounds
  13. well, after showing him the FET preamp, he seems convinced its a very small job. asked him about a volume pot, and he talked about changing R3 for one. would that work, for volume control? or should we just put one right after output or something... anyways, thanks a lot. You saved me a good hundred bucks
  14. THERE!!! I found it. Tune-O-Matic piezo, cheap. Schaller GTM-P From Guitar electronics now, for the preamp... is this somewhat buildable? My dad studied in electronics... or do i really need those 100$ preamps?
  15. god, that's one (5?) hell of an Hamer
  16. Hey there, i'm starting to think and plan my first electric guitar! what i want in it is 2HBs with coil tap and a PIEZO Basiaclly, what i was thinking is getting something like a fishman tune-o-matic piezo... how much is that? anything cheaper and/or better? also, what kind of circuit do i need for this? if i want to get both the HBs and the piezo at the same time?? (the "powerchip" from fishman?) thanks a lot! EDIT: Ok so there's the Ghost system from Graphtech(Ghost saddles). 100$ but that's without a bridge... Then, i would need a strat-style bridge (hardtail) so, 150$... OR i could get a LR baggs... (TOM) for about 150$ too... 1st: wich is better? 2nd: do those need the preamps both compagnies sell? thanks again
  17. hey there, i'd like to protect my guitars (<3 em so much...) and i was looking around for strap locks... and saw that these things where 20$ each and that's for 1 guitar. now i saw these on ebay: FleaBay was wondering if any of you tryed some of those cheap little devices... if they suck, are there any other ways to get some kinda lock for straps... (i don't mind paying 20+$ but not for 1 guitar!! something inter-changable would be cool.) thank you!
  18. what i read is they basically remove the composite from that area and refret it... (don't ask exactly how...) but to actually need a refret on SS frets, you'd need to be playing a damn lot
  19. manne guitars is the one doing that pic i found. and i REALLY like that neck joint on the zon guitars thing... set neck:
  20. i've just found this... exactly what i was thinking about. totally by mistake but it's exactly that.
  21. went to the local shop... damn these things are PRICEY much more than i tought... only problem is all digitech effects really look cheap... plastic stuff and all... only the 300+$ are metal...
  22. well, Parker guitars uses a thin reinforcement of ccarbon-glass-epoxy reinforcement on both the neck and the fretboard... maybe that kind of idea would work? if you could make a very precise wood carving, and put some composite over it, it might work on the warpage issues and such... my 2c...
  23. ok so some ppl have talked about a problem with the neck pickup? maybe if the neck joint was under the top of the body? i've seen Carvins (i think... that was carvin...) that where neck throug topped with flame maple... would the same desing work here? (see image)
  24. anyone got something to say about the Zoom pedals? If i can't get the RP-14, chances are i'll get a GFX 5... thanks.
  25. thanks for your ideas, i was actually looking for around the RP300... Or maybe a zoom pedal... (GFX5 - 200$ or maybe GFX707II - 130$) and if i can ever FIND one i probably would get a Boss GT-3 EDIT: I (maybe) found a used Digitech RP14D on a site... VERY cheap. It has a real tube preamp in it for amp modelling. The effects look very nice too. What about it? is this any good? thanks.
