  1. Yes pretty much, I get my borax from boots, if you look in the household cleaning section you get boxes of it there. If you cant find it then ask, it will be in a white box with some blue stripes if i remember correctly. I dont use the paints they talk about though, I tried them and found them to dry far to quickly and blotch up. The humbrol stuff seems to be the best i have found sofar. In my pictures you will see many differant swirls, most of them do NOT have white undercoats, think about how colours interact and try things out, the blue mc's have a light blue undercoat, the yellow/red/orange have a yellow undercoat and so on, you can get some really nice effects if you just try things out. I first put coloured undercoats on when I tried the GMC, and found the white showing through, so i sprayed it green first and it came out how i wanted as the green didnt show through the black, it just made the green come out in differant shades (As shown in teh video) Hope this helps. I may be doing some more in teh summer and if i do i will write my tutorial which I have been trying to do foor a while.
  2. If you wanna see some colors have a look at my pictures of swirls, I have just found a video i did for a tutorial which shows the full swirling process. Its just uploading now, it may be helpfull. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a43/tonygayter/ The blue MC is one of my favs
  3. You will find that you will need to use poly-eurethane laquer, the nitro stuff will react with the testors paint as it is oil based. And you wont need to use much paint so the little tins are fine. I can use a 15ml tin for about 5 guitars on a two tone swirl
  4. Why dont you just use this stuff, you can get it in b&q or home depot I image.. Paint
  5. Yeah, well.. I have done the picutres and the video and had done the setup section but in the move back to the uk the html was 'lost' so I will need to redo the begginning which is a bit annoying. But it isnt forgotton. I am trying to fit it into studying in prep for uni. I am trying to compile a collection of differant swirl colors, I have started an online album with some of them which may be of interest to you. --> My Images. I will be adding different ones to this every time i do them. When the tut is done this will be improved to show what colours i used and base coat colour etc...
  6. Hello Everyone, I have finally moved back to the UK and set up my stuff for painting again. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas for cool swirl combinations? I have just done a red yellow swirl(see pic) and Im thinking it is missing something. maybe a touch of white might go nicely. The guitar is just a test body which is why its bumpy and stuff. Its just to see what colours look like.
  7. I can see what is wrong, it is looking for the wrong file extension, <img src="DSC04977.jpg" alt="DSC04977.JPG" border="0" width="450" height="600"> it should be <img src="DSC04977.JPG" alt="DSC04977.JPG" border="0" width="450" height="600"> Is it a php script or did you use a gallery creator tool. If its php it should be a nice easy fix. If not then try changing it with one page and see if it works. HTML is very fussy about file extensions and the like.
  8. Finally got around to dipping my 7-String. Came out fairly well i think. I went for the BMC instead of a normal universe MC.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has seen these on the bay Bad Swirls. I cant belive he wants $350 for something which your gonna have to strip and re-swirl. The lions claw is badly done and no monkey grip. He says they are steve via swirls... have you seens any ATD swirls looking like that?
  10. No, the body has to be prepped just as you would if you were spraying any colour., I grain filled it, and sealed it and primered it before dipping
  11. Only the one on the site. But I am making one and should have it finished soon, just goota do some video editing and image grabs.
  12. I edid a red/yellow swirl on some wood today and it came out very nice. It must have been the water I used to other day. Didnt have any problems with it. I might do a red/yellow/orange swirl on one of my next bodies. I have two bodies on the way , one is gonna be a blue multicolour swirl and the other was gonna be a dna but it may now be the red/yellow/orange. not quite a dna.
  13. woo hoo, finally got a swirl that im happy with, just gotta go get it cleared now and I can play it...
  14. Its very smooth, the reason i stripped down my last attempt was due to bumps and blotchs. but I have been practicing and dont get those much anymore. Im really happy with the swirl, just not with the black colour. should have it redone in a few hours though. Hopefully it will be blacker. I recorded this dip so I can now finish of my tutorial somethime this weekend i think.
  15. it was just very sunny behind me and i think ther is an orange sheet on the washing line lol
  16. Done my second attempt at a gmc now and I dont think the black is black enough dammit....., wheres that sand paper....
  17. I would use wood filler. It is in the same section as pollyfilla, pollyfilla is more for masonary.
  18. By the third dip a lot of the paint had been removed from the water, laeving the correct amount of paint in the tub. It all revolved around me putting to much paint in the water etc...
  19. For a first go I would say thats pretty good, Im gonna be doing an inlay soon, makes me wanna geet started on it now.
  20. Yeah, I would just start it at the price I bought it for and if it went up then all the better, would just mean I could buy more guitars to swirl
  21. Well i have given the guy in the shop a few bits of swirled wood so he can test out differant finishes to test if any of them react with the paint. I seem to remember you said that you were doing yours? Im assuming you have the right gear to do it with then. I will be moving back to my hometown soon and my dad has a workshop where he builds kit cars. Gonna get him to do the finishing on my future guitars. I will hopefully have some up for sale aswell. Gonna get a few RG's and do a monkey grip conversion on them and swirl them. See If I can make a bit of cash doing something I enjoy. Did your GMC sell well?
  22. Hey Seth.... didnt think i was ever gonna get to see pics of your guitar. Looks wicked, very nice finish on it aswell. Mine is going into a finishing shop soon, hopefully it will bring out the colours a lot more.
  23. I was thinking about what color scheme I wanted to use on the next guitar, was gonna do a yellow/pink/green one but I tried a blue swirl (pic below). I think It looks ok, would just like some opinions on it.
  24. No, he wants to use wood stains, not paints. Im sure it could be done, the stain just needs to be oil based. It will be interesting if you can do it.
