I think it's just the mix of "i've never heard anything like this" along with the fact that the dude is just damn good.. It may nto be the kind of music you would play, given the choice, but listening to it feeds your creativity anyway.. Primus is eclectic enough.. but check out oysterhead.. Mix the strangeness of claypool with the ego of copeland, and the jamitude of anastasio. and you have quite a sonic mix.. I don't particularly like the content of the music as much but I love hearing them all play..

if you seal the hell out of the wood.. then do 15-20 really light coats of tru-oil/naptha blend you should have a hard finish that will be a descent protection.. Basswood is very soft though and the oil will probide little or no protection to dings and such.. Tru-oil has a lot of non-oil stuff in it and actually makes a thich hard finish if done right.. It's not like just using a pure oil.

Check the requirements in your state for getting a resellers license.. then hook up with WD or AllParts. Kluson tuners for instance, are 45 retail at allparts.. so you pay 22.50 as a reseller. A vintage strat bridge might retail at 110 (real deal with steel block, nickel, stamped saddles..) and your reseller price would be 55. etc.. dude, you ought to go that route.. you seriously need to be set up to be doing this professionally.. you gots da skillz -
I don't remember where I saw it.. but the basic idea was to use a slotting bit in your router table or shaper, then make a curved rail to ride along a pin or a bearing.. Maybe it was on MIMF. I have never actually found plans, just description..

Rockler's Veneer 48" long and 10" wide for 3.99.. Cut in half and you'd have a 24x20 layer.. plenty for one body..

part of the problem with DD pups is they are only based on a small handful of real SD pups. And they aren't based on really nice ones.. they are fun of the mill. I think in the DD line there is a copy of the distortion, the jazz, the standard single coil and maybe a paf. You'll get a lot more variety with another company.. or just getting real duncans. Armstrong pups aren't super cheap, so it's not like you'll save a bundle. I've found GFS pups to be a lot less than even armstrongs, at least for the humbuckers. If you want something different, save up for a set of Rio Grandes.. like a set of BBQs or something..

If you hold the kids hands and show them the sticking patterns.. in a couple months they'll start doing it. Mine picked up a regular beat (basic 8th notes on HH and snare on 2 and 4) right away.. about the age of 3 he started listening and trying to emulate shuffles and other patterns. I only believe in natural talent to some extent. I think most people have aptitude for music and rhythm, they just might not have had anyone work with them to encourage it. Like playing by ear.. to some it's a mystery, but i've talked a few people into doing it and one it clicks.. it's a total "ah ha" moment.. the simple concept of playing what you hear.. Kind of like art I guess.. Once people learn to draw what their eyes see, and not what their mind is interpreting it to be, people can draw pretty realistic looking pictures.

Guitar is so difficult for little hands. Maybe what would be cool is a little 3 string power chord guitar for tiny hands with a custom pickup. I might have to do that. My kid loves listening to old classic/hard rock.. boston, ac/dc, zz top, van halen.. anything with distortion and a beat and he's all over it.. couldn't have asked for much more in a kid As for the drums.. You'd be surprised how young a kid can keep a beat. My oldest was playing 4/4 hihat and snare patterns at about 14 months.. At age 4, his legs are finally long enough and he can play the whole kit while I play guitar.. Of course, rhythm is in his blood.. my family has several musicians in it..

Why pau ferro? if it's a pinstripe couldn't you get away with just something that is reasonably close? maybe a walnut and dye it a little darker, or a more common rosewood veneer might be easier to get..

Kent Armstrongs can be a good value. GFS pickups on ebay are really excellent pups and you'll pay on average 20 bucks for a ceramic HB or 30-40 for an alnico HB.. 65 for a premium strat set or 85 for a premium tele set. Very well made and great sounding pups. Plus the GuitarFetish storeowner is a super nice and helpful fellow and ill ship your stuff out to you lightning fast. Dont forget too if you want name brand, check them out on ebay.. people sell off pickups a lot and you might get a great hit on a slightly used SD or DiMarzio item.

I'm sending my mitre box assy back and getting the table saw blade.. I cut half a boards worth of slots then it was dawning on me that it looked strange.. Each slot was about 92 or so degrees to the edge of the board.. At first i though "stupid mistake" and checked my adjustments.. but it's the fixed side of the mitre box that's off. The blade guides don't line up, and they are so far out of line that even the play of the brass guide blocks isn't enough to compensate. I dont' know how that one made it out of the place but it's a good excuse to send it back and get the table saw blade.

As a taylor owner, I would buy one sight unseen any day. At least the upper level ones. Something like the new T5 is a high-end enough model I wouldn't hesitate to order one. Worst case is the MF folks might not know how to set it up. But if you're investing 2800 bucks in a guitar, what's a little more effort to really dial it in. A gibson, i would not order.. i could play several different gibsons in a store and they would all be completely different.. Their consistensy is a little suspect.

so a search on oil finishes here and you'll find a lot of options. tung, tru, etc.. lots of oil ways you can go and those will give you a great satin finish and protect the wood.

Man, you really have a knack for this design business.. I hope you can do something professional with it. I keep thinking Neal Moser when I see your stuff.. Not that it looks ripped off or anything, but I can definitely see the influence.. It takes a great eye for form and function to make designs that are wicked, different and yet not dorky or amateur looking (or that won't physically injure you.. ha). Whatever "it" is, you got it bro.. I love seeing your new projects unfold. Old Neal sure is stuck on those Kahler flyers huh.. I used to play a kramer with a flyer on it but it's been a loooong time. -
save the beer for when it's time to do the groovy paint jobs. One thing that is fun is to go to www.grizzly.com and use their "shop planner" app. You can dial in your floor space and do a shop layout. Just find similar tools in their catalog.

Thats the good thing, I wouldnt mind if the headstock didnt have the Jackson logo. Only problem is I can't afford the USA COW Model. His Dinky models are affordable but thats the thing, they are Dinky's not Soloist's and the Dinky's are bolt-on's where as his USA's are neck-thru (which is what I want). So back to my origianl question, is there anyone who can make me a replica or w/e of Christian's guitar? (no mention of price though, I wanna keep that part out for now). ← Call Tommy up at USACG and ask him what they have. They do carved tops.. they are expensive though.. But you could just go with a non carved model and save quite a bit of money. Easily under 1000 bucks by the time you're all said and done. Otherwise, I would check out perry's site.. he's had some great examples of soloist type guitars as of late and does carved tops too.

I think it's hard to beat the porter cable kit.. you can get the router motor with 2 bases for 200-250 bucks usually. I love them. I dont' use the plunge base though, don't have it. I always pre hog my body cavities with the drill press so no plunging is necessary.
