  1. I wonder how old he is. Thats some pretty amazing guitar pick'in going on there.
  2. Never mind this thread answered my question. http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...tung%20oil&st=0
  3. whoa I almost screwed up big time, that Peavey PV10 isn't a powered mixer I called and canceled the order, tomorrow I'm going to order a Behringer Europower PMH880S Powered Mixer. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on Behringer some good some bad I just hope I don't get a lemon. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Liv...xers?sku=631251 Scratch that they didnt have it in stock I probably got lucky. I ordered a Yamaha EMX212 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Liv...xers?sku=630192
  4. Thanks Gorecki I bet they saw me coming I really don't know what I'm looking when it comes to the specs I cant find how many watts the Peavey is but I figured it would have to be a better mixer then the Nady.
  5. I just ordered a Peavey PV10 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Liv...xers?sku=631368 we just need a small one for practicing I got the Nardy because it was 300W's but that doesn't mater if it doesn't work. At least with Peavey I've got a good named brand mixer. I'll send the Nardy back Monday just in case the Peavey doesn't make it in by Saturday.
  6. I just got it yesterday brand new. I sent Nady an E-Mail but they said it would take a while for a response if they haven't got back to me by Friday I'll call. I'm just hoping it's something I'm doing wrong but I don't know what it could be, I'm afraid I got a bad mixer.
  7. I just bought a six channel Nady mixer for practicing, tonight is the first time I used it. The sound would just cut off then come right back, what will cause it to do that? This is what I bought, I know it's a cheepo when it comes to mixers but still we weren't pushing it that hard. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=630441 Here's some more info. We were using Yamaha AS108II speakers they handle a Maximum of 280W's but we didn't have any of the volume pots over half way. All speaker cables are brand new and we had the problem with each of the mic's. We wont practice again until Saturday night were going to try to set it up farther away from the drums and amps and we had it plugged in to a power-strip/surge protector so will plug it straight in to the wall, thats all we can think of. If we still have the same problem what should I do? Thanks.....
  8. I see guy's posting links to some of there stuff witch I think is cool so I'll throw one of ours out. It's just two of us on this recording but were fixing to rerecord it this weekend with the guy's were playing with now, we finally have a real drummer and he sounds way better than a drum machine. I'm playing bass by the way. Gunfighters Moon Lyrics
  9. I've ran in to a little set back I had to buy a P.A system so my electronics and hard ware are on hold until my better half gets over the $547.00 I just spent. It sucks to have to wait longer to play "Snaga" but the guy I've been writing music with and I have finally added a drummer and another guitar player so we really need a P.A. I've got the heel down from this http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0509.jpg to this http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0525.jpg it's not finished yet I still have some sanding to do but it's comfortable and I have total access to the upper frets, just like I wanted. I'm going with a natural finish I know it may not make since for a axe guitar but I just can't bring my self to paint over that cherry, I prefer woodgrain over paint anyway so I know I'm going to like it. The neck will be dyed black front and back and I'm thinking about putting these runes in black on the edge bevels http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reaver1/Snaga/runes.gif they will say "Snaga, The Sender, The Blades Of No Return" I'm going to put those runes on the guitar I just haven't decided where yet. When I build my bass they will be inlaid on the fret board.
  10. I didn't do it exactly like the Washburn, I really didn't need to. The reason I like the heel of my Washburn is because of how easy it is to play the higher frets but sense the body of my guitar is all the way past the fret board I shouldn't have to worry about fret access. I still have to finish sanding but this what I've done so far. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0525.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0533.jpg
  11. Look at this monstrosity, I bet I should have already addressed this beast. Oh well I should be used to doing every thing the hard way by now. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0510.jpg This is what I'm going to try for, it's the heel of my Washburn bass it's the most comfortable heel I've played with. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0511.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0512.jpg I think I can remove a lot of the wood with a router then finish it up with my new best friend ( the rasp) and cross my fingers.
  12. Man thats going to be a nice guitar the wings have a cool grain pattern.
  13. Thanks for the encouragement Fatalities, I really wanted to sharpen the edges all the way like a real Snaga and I'm kind of disappointed that I couldn't but it would have just been to fragile. I did a sharp edge on scrap but any little ding would cause damage. I used a rasp on both sides and left a 5/8" flat surface in the center. looking at it from the front you can't tell that it's not sharp but still it would have been nice. No sanding has been done yet, it's still rough. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0498.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0499.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0497.jpg I think I've evened up the upper cutouts, not to sure about the excess neck I may end up cutting it off even with the body. Hopefully I'll finish the lower cut outs today. I've found if I work on it for more than fifteen minuets or so I start getting sloppy so I'm taking my time. Upper: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0495.jpg Lower you can see how uneven it is. I wanted total access to the upper frets well I'm fixing to get even more access. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/e38c5946.jpg edited: All done except for sanding, man I feel a lot better now. I thought the lower cutouts would be the hardest because of the neck but it only took about ten minuets to even them up. before starting http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0501.jpg finished lower horns: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0503.jpg Body: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0506.jpg
  14. Man thats an awesome carve and thats a understatement.
  15. Yeah the glue set way faster than I thought it would, I bet I dry clamped it about ten times before I used glue and there was a lot more slipping and sliding than I was ready for I guess. It's a good thing I have a little experience with a rasp now I think thats how I'm going to try to fix it, maybe completely round the upper and lower inside bevels. I wont be able to work on them until Sunday so I have time to think about it but right now that sounds like my best bet. It's only off 1/16th of an inch but I can see every time I look at it.
  16. Man I'm sofa king we tarted!!! I didn't get my wings even during my glue up, I don't know how I let it happen but it did. I guess It was because of the crazy angles my clamps were in. I'm going to be able to fix it but it just blows to have to do it. I'll just have to redo the inside bevels with a rasp to even the wings up, next time I'm only gluing one wing on at a time. Yesterday when I noticed the screw up I felt like I had just lost a pet or something today I feel a little better about it after staring at it and thinking it over I have no doubt I can fix them but still, If I could reach them I'd kick my self in the nuts! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0449.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0450.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0453.jpg
  17. I'm building the wings of my guitar out of cherry but I'm not to the finishing stage yet. What little I've read about finishing cherry blotching seems to come up in every article so surly there are techniques to prevent blotching. Do you have any pics? I'm planing to use tru oil but I'm not dead set on it.
  18. Have I got the record for the most pics of a build yet? I know I'm posting a lot of pics of each step but by doing so you guy's have saved me a lot of trouble so here are some more.... I had to take 1/4" off the thickness of the neck (I just thought doing the body bevels was scary) so I planed it down with my router http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0422.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0423.jpg This is how much I took off: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0426.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0427.jpg I left just enough thickness so I can sand the router marks off, and to get the right thickness I'll probably tape sandpaper to MDF like I did my glue surfaces. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0427.jpg I cut most of the excess neck length of, it's starting to look like Snaga. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0428.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0429.jpg
  19. I'm glad you posted this I just upgraded my jointer now I'm in the big leagues , I know I've read it before but I guess it slipped my mind. I used double sided tape on the corners of my sand paper and taped it to my MDF table then used a level for my fence . I marked the low spots with a sharpie and just kept checking it and it turned out great, now I can't see any light between the wings and neck when I hold it up to a light bulb. Do you do any thing to your wings before gluing? I used medium 100 grit sandpaper and the wings are pretty smooth, I don't know if they should be prepped/roughed somehow before gluing. Thanks again thats another step done. I hope there are no copyright infringements http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0419.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0420.jpg
  20. Hey d ward sorry if I missed it but did you make the knobs or buy them? If it was possible my whole guitar would be woodgrain even the strings I'd be super proud of that guitar if it was mine.
  21. Well at lest we can all agree that my gluing method is the wrong way. I'm almost ready to glue the wings to the neck but I'm going to do a lot of reading through old threads first because I defiantly want to do this right. Here's a pic of my jointers http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0409.jpg the wings are pretty straight so I don't have to much work to do on them. I got the inside bevels done they still need sanding but the hole thing does. I used the router up to the edges then used the rasp to taper the bevel. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0400.jpg upper http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0411.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0410.jpg lower http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0412.jpg
  22. Using a rasp for the bevels and they are turning out exactly how I want want them. I really had my doubts/concerns about being able to use one with out ruining the blades but I'm just going slow and doing a little at a time then taking a break (like right now) and it's slowly starting to look like an axe. Here are some pics, I haven't done any smoothing out yet it's all rough you can see some lines I need to straighten out by sanding but I guess that's to be expected. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0378.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0356.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0360.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0362.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0374.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/Reave...ga/100_0370.jpg I forgot to mention I figured out what was wrong with my router. The leaver you lock it in place with somehow got out of whack, I just took it off turned it a notch or two and put it back on it works fine now.
  23. Man it would be nice to have something like that for recording. I want hear what it sounds like as much or more as I want to see how it looks when its done. Envious
  24. Take lots of pics so you can save me some mistakes. How are you shaping it?
