  1. I've read that. I'm really sorry. At first I wasn't sure why it was showing the pics instead of links, because I was using the url tag, but I went back and retyped the url in by hand and fixed it. I had just copied the "FORUM URL" line from photobucket and pasted that, which was the problem. The way they had it just viewed the picture instead of giving a link. Anyway it's just the links now and I hope it's okay that they're bigger than 640 x 480. Sorry for double post and big pics. It won't happen again. Anyway if anyone has any comments I'd like to hear them.
  2. I've been thinking about a great way to pull off quick pickup switching. I can't tell you what it is yet but I can tell you this. It will take less than ten seconds to switch any or all of the pickups to one or more alternate pickups, the strings will not have to detune one bit, and it will make the guitar look really, really, ugly. The body shape can remain exactly what it is, as long as it's about strat size or bigger, and it won't need and huge mechanisms (your hand controls the entire process), but its definately gonna look wierd. Anyway, maybe you should just get very versatile pickups, or a coil tap. I think after the novelty of pulling the plate and replacing it wears off, you'll wish you had two different guitars. It would probably take almost as long as just switching the pups. Just my 2 cents.
  3. I havent posted in several months so here ya go. Sorry if this is a little OT. I don't live anywhere where I can finish my project right now. I did however finish the scallop job and it's perfect, looks great (glad I practiced on an old bass neck first.) Thanks for the tutorial for that whoever wrote it. Anyway, non content to play with idea's in kisikae (the paper doll guitar thingy) I've decided to build my ideas in 3d. My skills have improved a lot since I posted the Leviathan renders a long time ago (maybe some of you remember?). I became inspired during a vist to jemsite (where I saw the Virtual Jems) and decided to make my own photorealistic guitar that I want to build in real life someday. I started with the hardest part, the Floyd Rose vibrato. Here a couple of renders. They look pretty neat if you stand back a few feet. http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/2694/floydgold6or.jpg http://img498.imageshack.us/img498/2981/trifloyd2gs.jpg Yes, that is what you think it is. A PINK FLOYD!!! Sorry couldn't resist terrible joke. I like the idea of a colored Floyd though. I changed the tighten thingy on the trem bar a little. Part of an idea I had that locks the bar in place so it doesn't turn at all. I like my trem bar to stay rigid and not shift an inch. Let me know what you think of the renders. Also, to LGM: I did those crappy Leviathan renders a while back. I thought you might like this idea. It's really not a very good idea, more or less just for sh*ts and giggles, but it only took 30 minutes to mock up so I thought, eh, what the hell http://img494.imageshack.us/img494/2074/levicoust6se.jpg No, you're not hallucinating, that IS an LGM Levicoust. I think it would be impossible (or very difficult) to make it. The bending of the wood would be pretty hard but whateva'. This one isn't intended to look real, so it's rough and not well lit. Once again, don't worry, I wont make it or give out the dimensions.
  4. ... and see what happens if you mess with me. I'll show you pointy! Click thumb..,.
  5. Its been done and its not actually very rare. I would think it would be harder than guitarbuilding but I have no basis for comparison so...
  6. Its lightwave (not really a cad more of an animation/modeler for movies, and commercials and crap) which was used for Matrix/Titanic/CSI/Burnout games among many others. I dont need any cad stuff I just used the pic for reference but if theres anything I should know give me a hand(for example now I know its AANJ but I can change that easily). I probably wont finish it because I can't ever play it and like I said it's just for the hell of it. I built my Jackson in Lightwave and was gonna build a jem but the freaking monkey hole was bothering me when I put it in subpatch mode so I decided to do this instead. I really a better guitarist than a modeler and texturer (because I never spend time to practice modeler) so those finishes are five minute screw ups from photoshop that looked okay on the guitar so I used them. Total time modeling so far was less than an hour so whatever. I liked some of the blacklight inlays he does and his leviathan is cool because I really think if your going pointy you should either make it cool pointy (Leviathan) or dangerously terrifyingly unplayably pointy (Moser) and not ride the fence like ugly Bc Rich Beast or something like that. I looked through the forum and thought this was a better newb post than: "I want to build guitars wil you teach me??!!? How do I make this.. and this... and I tried the search function but... er... I couldn't figure out what it was called... and ... well... search function doesn't work anyway takes way too long. Is is possible to build a neck of Balsa wood and how do I put maple wiener on my top. Tutorials on the site are VERY unclear too much reading. Les paul rules etc.. I want prs... Jackson is for posers KORNKORNKORN I am good as vai but not really. Teach me play fast shread now. LOLOLOL !11one1ONe11 I leet haxor teh leet." PS I will never build this in real life because its so pointy I would lose my hands. Truly something a hippy would hate. NIce job!!
  7. I found a guitar called the Leviathan, a new design at a custom builder: LGM Guitars, and its probably the coolest design I've seen for a long time. Something of a superstrat but pointy, and not stupid pointy, cool pointy. I want one but can't afford it so I decided to build one in 3D for the hell of it. My inspiration: My 3D models (with pre-vis swirl finishes): Probably off topic but a cool guitar I'm working on.
  8. I have a guitar (not my main guitar) that is an ugly metallic red. It is a superstrat design and flat front (except armrest). Discussing tuts on Project Guitar with my packrat dad he revealed that he already has: -sander and palm sander -two dremels and every attachment known to man including router base -once used router and many bits -hundreds of assorted round files, sandpaper, varnish etc. -4 airbrushes (badgers etc.) and two tank compressors w/ moisturetraps etc. -spray gun -spray masks -high power drills/ hand drills -jigsaw, gents saw, chainsaw, coping saw, Klingon Reverberating Plasma Saw -much, MUCH, more all in great condition! It appears I am set to do just about anything I want on project guitars. SO I need this procedure checked for order, smartness, and general errors please: I want to: dissasemble scallop entire fretboard following tut (yes i have practiced on an old neck) sand strip apply quilted maple veneer to the top from - http://www.joewoodworker.com/catalog/produ...products_id=898 mask edges for binding effect apply sanding sealer (what does this do?) Dye black sand back Dye blue spray laquer 3 very thin coats in one day (brand suggestion please) wetsand with 400 grain wait four days and repeat wait four days and repeat thicker coats wetsand to 1500 grain polishing compound and hopefully have a beautiful guitar. ANY details you could fill in that i have left out would be very helpful. This is my first finish job. I have finished model cars before but thats way different and I wasn't that good. Thanks and EXCELLENT WEB SITE!!!
