  1. Thanks, I'm quit sure it's not a valuable instrument. It's a stratcopy or strat pieced together by someone. It has seen a lot of (ugly) modifications in it's life. Most of those are hidden, the headstock is the only thing I wanna repair. (or hide) (I have a thread here in the hope of finding out it's origin. But I'll probably never find out where it came from or when it was built.) Thanks for your recommendations.
  2. Anyone with experience with this kind of repair ? https://picasaweb.google.com/wardpost/19December2012?authuser=0&feat=directlink#5823747588607958082
  3. Oh I know it's not a fender. And it's a good sounding guitar so I'm happy with it. I was just wondering where it came from. It might be impossible finding that out but it doesn't hurt to try.
  4. Indeed the pickguard screws are off. There are several things that say it's not a fender. The decal logo is the only thing fender, and they are not that hard to come by.
  5. I don't think it matches. http://www.google.be...iw=1177&bih=952 But I could maybe scratch the remaining paint off the neck pocket. Maybe it is indeed a logo. thanks!
  6. Lately, I bought a strat for not too much money. The history of this guitar is a mystery to me. What the seller said was; it's from the 80's and it's from Japan. This is not necessarily true. It has a fender decal on the headstock but I don't think it's really fender, there's no serial number to be found. If you like to have a look maybe the photos ring a bell for someone ? https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink The tuners look like they were replaced. unfortunately in a very bad way. Any suggestions on how to clean this mess up ? Thanks!
  7. This mod you're trying to do, it looks like it's just a pot and two caps. So I'm guessing what it does is simply attenuate the preamp volume somewhere. I don't think this gives a more desirable effect as the power attenuator. The power tubes will be less driven. Preamp overdrive will be there, powertube distortion not. I agree with Todd, bedroomlevel in a 95dB efficient speakercab is about 1/4Watt, not 50!!! Is there no schematic with the mod ???
  8. It's up to you, measuring your electrolytic caps is very basic but probably the most important thing for your safety. If you want to do it, we can guide you through it. we'll need the type of amp, and pictures of the inside. If you don't, take it to a tech.
  9. DJ, don't be scared off. You have a multimeter, right ? If you measure your caps after the mains is unplugged for some time you can see the dc voltage with your own eyes.
  10. I agree. Unplug the mains, go have a beer or coffee. First check all electrolytics for remaining dc. I there is, read a book. If not: Check if there's a good connection from the output transformer to the speakers. The speaker should pop when you touch the terminals with your multi meter. Remove all your tubes, except the rectifier tube 6x4. Plug it in, If you know you can do it safely, measure your voltages at the tube sockets. then report those over here.
  11. Have you got a multimeter ? I'd start going over the groundconnections to see if they all give a good ground. Maybe post pictures so we can have a look.
  12. I'd love to have your opinions (tonewise and regarding stability of neck) on an ash body and ash neck telecaster, the fretboard would be maple. The pickups are vintage seymour duncans. thanks
  13. I don't think I did something wrong, the wood has worked this much. I'm starting over with a new piece.
  14. nope usb is digital guitar is analogue doesn't mix without an analogue to digital converter.
  15. The bow is not in the truss rod bowing direction, unfortunately. [i should have posted this in "General discussions about working on guitars". Can a moderator move this pleace. ]
