  1. Thats exactly my though. It was an unsealed grain its sinking back into. That toothpick method is the best. Just keep adding drops until its cured and pretty near close to being level. Then when you start spraying it will be one awesome smooth coat
  2. What I do with stuff like that is just drop fill with some poly or nitro and let those spots build up before I shoot the clear. I usually have problem spots like that where the wood sucks the finish and what not... It WILL eventually build up enough to sand to a nice finish though. I just did this on my green guitar to seal it and it came out really smooth and filled. What I did was sprayed a nice thin coat over the whole guitar and then hit those problem spots a little heavier. After it cured enough to scuff It made the sanding back a lot easier and faster to get an even finish.
  3. i actually like the knots and everything in it
  4. I wish I had the tools to do it I think I might just restart that project :-\... As for the NM yeah its coming out GREAT haha. I'm taking my time on every section of the build. This is going to be the build I show and try and sell to the locals who have been wanting me to make them one. I do want to add a burst but I dont know how to get a good one on there without a Airbrush setup. Any ideas? Im willing to try it out. I got to route out the rest of the pockets tomorrow.
  5. damn its cold there! we are in the 90s haha
  6. wow looks awesome. whats your multiscale numbers? I mean which two scales :-P
  7. wow those holes look so clean. I cant wait to start a bass soon. I'll have to get a design together.
  8. wow that stuff polished up pretty nice! I assume this isnt even final buff either is it?
  9. thats awesome usually i see a full scallop or a half scallop :-P
  10. Thats exactly how I feel... GAH.... Ill see how it turns out in the end...
  11. Sealed the guitars Here is both sealed. I'm not sure I'm happy with the LP.... Its that cove section that still has those dang messups and sand marks. Maybe it wont look so bad after I do some hardware mockups. If not I'll have to sand back and what not. Anyway, This is where they are at. I don't have Some parts to start the necks yet so this is where they will sit and cure until then. Ill probably re-sand and stain the LP until those parts come in.
  12. Carved nm Stained black and sanded back Stained green Added a golden wash that comes out in the light. WOO I've always wanted a green guitar natural back
  13. I thought you were going for the unmarked guitar. haha I do that to all my necks
  14. that is an interesting scallop it looks awesome
  15. I still think it looks cool.. like a weird knot or something. I'm sure it will end up pretty bad ass in the end
  16. yeah if you watch the video you have to adjust and center your grinder and what not... It does stay sharp though. I've carved a lot with this thing over the course of two guitar body's and 3 necks. Still sharp
  17. kinda. its works really well but its like touchy. you have to angle it just right and scrap certain directions with it cause you cant bend it as much as a thin one. it still works awesome and fast though
  18. Thanks I think the hardest part is going to get the burst to be even
  19. I was using this minwax stuff. works pretty good I havent had problems with it before.
