  1. I think I see what you mean. The last part where you used a bit the same size as the lip on the ferrule scares me. I was thinking there was some sort of reaming bit that does this. Maybe a step down bit would work? I don't personally have a drill press, so I will be taking it to my grandfather's shop. I suppose I can practice plenty on scrap first.
  2. Hey folks, I know I'm still knew here, but I promised I tried to search for an existing thread on this topic and in the tutorials, but I'm just not finding it. I'm still in the tentative stages of planning a build for a Telecasteresque body. I'm really tempted to just buy a body, but there are a few minor things that I want to do different from a standard T-shape. Anyway, I've figured out how to get most of the body from a blank, but what I'm stuck on is drilling the string through holes in the front and making them larger and reaming them so the ferrules are flush with the body. I'm kicking myself because I used to have a book that covered this topic a bit. My concern is the 1/8" bit wandering and not being straight on the way out. Do you measure the location on the holes on the front and back and drill halfway from both sides? If anyone can point me to a reference that discusses this, I would be much appreciative. The alternative is buying a routed/drilled body blank from Warmoth, and I'd much rather save the money by doing it myself. Thanks!
  3. Hey folks, I just registered here this morning. My name is John, I'm 27 and reside in Northern Illinois. I have been talking about building a guitar for years now, the closest I've come was assembling a Carvin bass kit. My primary interest is in building semi-custom bolt on builds for myself and perhaps a handful of hand painted jobs that I might try to sell as "art guitars". I'd like to start a project this year, but I'm still mulling the options around and getting prices, etc. Tentatively I had planned to do a Carvin bolt kit with a hand painted faux burst like this: Currently I'm thinking of doing that to a Telecaster body, or getting a Carvin Bolt+ kit and just doing some wild painting to it (think Clapton's "Fool" SG, the Hendrix psychedelic V, George Harrison's "Rocky" strat). Anyway, I'll probably lurk around and post as I feel I have something worthy to contribute. Right now I'm trying to track down all the valuable links and resources your have to offer, as well as other member projects. Looking forward to learning a lot!
