  1. I agree about the thickness of the horns but ill be carving the top down and im hoping that will bring the look im going for as for the wings im going to do the top and bottom symetrical kolansky im not real sure were chardon is im thinking its an eastern burb of cleve?? but keims would be about an hour from akron in the amish belt trust me worth the drive just remember to get gas before you go , cause its easier to find horse feed in that neck of the woods
  2. im from the canton area , how about you ?? keim lumber is awsome been buying all my wood from them for 10 years , for my company and even my house even though they are an hour away ... cant say enough good about them !!!they have every speicies you can think of except i didnt see any limba/korina
  3. well the wood has been glued up ( body wings not glued on of course ) i desided to go up to 24.75 scale as its not that big a difference and although fretting seems doable i didnt want to buy the tools needed parts were bought from guitarheads through ebay at a decent savings over there website price 83 bucks shipped for 2 humbuckers bridge nut truners ferules now i just need t figure out what i want for a wiring harness and knobs body wings are mahogany/paduk/quilted maple neck qtr sawn curly maple and paduk http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp1/moj...ng/100_0887.jpg http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp1/moj...ng/100_0889.jpg
  4. are all non metalic materials ok to use in covers for pickups ?? i know wood plastic ect is ok , im wondering about epoxies, animal hides ect, do pickup covers cause any minor loss in the pups performance ?? my build is a shorter scale so i want to weigh every input to the build !!
  5. does the wiring harness and pot have much to do with sound quality ?? does one companys parts or harness vary much from anothers???
  6. in that case mitch sand the wood till its smooth then wipe it down with a damp rag ,towel whatever and let the wood dry now the wood will feel fuzzy sand it smooth and repeat 1 more time for best results now when the finish or stain is put on the wood the surface fibers will stay smoother there are variation to the method but this will work , if your useing a waterbased stain and certain woods , like maple the process can be done with the stain instead of water , that will allow the figure to to pick up more color
  7. you guys are all correct , but i wonder if he isnt refering to wetting to raise the grain if this is what your talking about mitch let us know , you dont wanna go slopping a wet sanding block on the bare wood of your guitar
  8. ohh i see what your saying wezv to clarrify ive made my living for 20 years as a woodworker and feel i can do a good job building one , i have no desire to sell any guitars but my boy has practiced , and done quite well for a young guitar player and in addition to something for us to do together he is ready and i feel deserves a guitar better than the $300 ibenez package he has played almost everyday for a 3 years so my plan was to get him a guitar in the $800 - 1000 range ,get him profecional lessons and build my own But now he wants me to build his as well . my wife and i are just wanting him to have what he needs to have every opportunity to advance
  9. i guess my question was what would a guy have to spend to get a guitar of comparable quality components
  10. im not asking what you could sell one for ! what im curious about is my second build will be for my son who is a gretty good guitar player for a 14 yearold that has been playing 3 years if you do quaility workmanship ,good well seasoned wood high end figure and for example floyd rose trem , grovers , and good duncan seymor pups what price range of name brand guitars are built to this quality???

  13. it is nice to have a good relationship with your wood supplier ,ive stuck with the same place 10 years even if not the cheapest when they know they can forklift you a pallet of wood and youll leave it nicer than they brought it to you and they let your rummage for hours thats PRICELESS i got enough for 2+ guitars for $100 ON to the design shorter scale 24 3/8 twin active guitarhead humbuckers recessed tom bridge string thru ferules 0 neck angle hi glossy finnish using superglue , ive used this on 100's of high end custom pool cues prior to getting spray equip . and thought id demo it on mine before offering others on how to do it body shape WELL im stealing a little from several members hear and puting it together into what i like 'a little influence from wezv latest gom , a little from guitart's future build and some from huntindougs parable

  17. ive used about 4 gallons of super glue as a high gloss finnish in the past on the custom pool cues i build and ill attempt it on my guitar build assuming it works as good on this project ill write a tutorial for it by the way .. unused CA needs to be kept in the freezer once its opened

  22. some sellers on ebay have additives you can add to clearcoat to make a transparent blue , not sure if these will work with anything other than the current trend of eurethanes but i doubt it
