  1. wondering if anybody knows a cheap source for micro end mills. i'm looking to get some more .023 and .01 diameters. i've found tons of sites selling them for around $15-25, so no need to mention anything around there. i'm wondering if there is a site that operates on bulk pricing if possible. any help appreciated, thanks.
  2. hey guys and gals, i've been putting together cnc equipment and a shop in preperation for making custom order guitars, necks, fretboards, and complete packages. it could also turn into some custom paint jobs in the near future if i get good enough with the paint guns. with this post, i"m looking to gauge the interest here in ordering up these custom items to put together your dream projects. feel free to pm me, and let me know what you would be looking for (just a body, the whole guitar, etc.) and what you feel would be a fair price. keep in mind that i can readily source just about any wood you may want, but if it"s anything too crazy exotic, there would be an upcharge. sticking with the basics of alder, maple, poplar, basswood, and even mahogany will keep you in the basic, regular price range. on a sidenote, i should also mention, I WILL NOT THROW MANUFACTURERS' NAMES AND LOGOS ON THESE. THESE ARE JUST "REPLACEMENT" STYLE COMPONENTS, CREATED ON A CUSTOM ORDER BASIS. thanks
  3. in reply to keegen: you were saying that yeah, you can just tund to drop d or something else by hand. i get that, what i'm wondering is which pedal system could be between you and the amp so you just keep playing and be able to scroll through tunings with a footwhitch on the fly?
  4. thanks for the reply. i guess to clarify, i'll just tell you what i want the end result to be. i want to take the alternate tuning switch off the fender vg. i just think it is a cool idea to rotate different tunings back and forth like that. from what i can see, fender does it by processing what is picked up by the piezo pickup, and modeling that to sound different, where as the gibson version in a way measures what the piezo picks up and then turns the guitar's tuners to be on the tuning you want to switch to. i guess both in the end do the same thing. fender by sound and gibson by mechanics. it would seem the gibson tuners would be quite spendy ($900 i think.) what i meant by the foot pedal question is, if you are using the piezo and all this equipment to model your sound to other things, is there an easy way to do the same thing? i.e.-guitar to some sort of pedal system (like those digitech, or boss, or even roland systems) to amp. those model your sound to sound like certain amps. are there any/some/all (i don't know) that deal with the different tunings that the fender VG will give you. if they did and all you had to do was put it between you and the amp, that would be much easier to do the same thing.
  5. i've been looking into the discontinued fender vg strat/gibson dark fire and robots/ and variax modeling guitars. i think that each guitar concept has some really cool concepts, but for this thread i am only focusing on the different tunings aspect. 1. is the only way to have a switching system for tunings directly on your guitar through the installation of a piezo system? -(i realize that there are a number of d-tuna/sperzel d-thing/etc. systems out there; i am interested in having many tuning switching options here, not just one.) 2. if i am only interested in the tuning aspect here, could the same thing be easier achieved through a floor pedal that deals with tuning? any info is appreciated.
  6. does anybody know the exact dimensions for the followind guitars: jackson king v rhoads kelly all i'm looking for is the max lengths and widths for just the body portions. (i.e. as in maximum x and y dimensions) thanks guys.
  7. j.pierce, thanks for the input. i think if i went with the plastic for the inlays, your point about just letting them be tall and them sanding them down would probably be the best option. in the 1/8", you can find it in 2' x 4' sizes for a few dollars. i've also been reading up more on the resin stuff like inlace. maybe i'll try that some day. i like that it looks like you can pretty much mix up any color you want. i'm also kinda seeing that making the red binding will be my only option if i wanted to go with plastic. thanks for your thoughts.
  8. does anybody here know a source to buy red (bright red, not tortise shell) abs plastic binding? i did find some red and green dyed maple ones on stewmac or lmii, but i'm trying to find something really bright. also, i've been looking for plastic sheets to cut inlays from, and the only things i find are 1/8" or thicker. does anybody know where to find some thinner pieces. i'm basically going for the same look as those ibanez rg 770 dx 1987 re-issues, but with binding to match. on a different note, is there any way to get mother of pearl blanks in colors. the only things i've seen are the pearl color, gold, and i think i remember seeing some dark gray ones. all suggestions are greatly appreciated. maybe you know a place to find some other colors of these materials; that would be appreciated also.
