  1. the head stock is angled so i dont think thats a problem, and I'm sure the frets are level. I just don't know what to try next. How important is the nut slot widths. i checked them with a feeler gauge and they're prety close to the string width. I don't have nut slot files, just a saw thats about the right width. do the strings matter? theyre just regular acoustic dulcimer strings?
  2. This seems to be a reacuring problem for me at least in mey last 2 projects. The first was a solid body guitar and the secong was a solid body electric dulcimer. Here's the problem. there's always a string or 2 that has a buzz or have a kind of muted sound when played open. the muted sound goes away when the string is fretted. The action is very high because thats the only way I could keep the strings from buzzing on the frets. This is frustrating because i started out with the same action as I have on my acoustic dulcimers ( which don't have any buzz of mute). I finally gave up and put it in the closet. Any suggestions
  3. This router bit has angled blades of microg-grain carbide that leave a superb finish. It has a 2" cutting length, cutter diameter of 3/4" and an overall length of 3 5/8". It has a 1/2" shank so it will have to be used with a larger router. I only used it a few times, so it is like new with no chips or damage(only a little dust in the corners). Luthiers mercantile sells it for 62.65 but I am asking $45.00 including shipping inside the U.S.A. <a href="http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/yy13/verndahlcimer/verndahlcimer/router%20bit/bit.jpg" target="_blank">http://i773.photobucket.com/albums/yy13/ve...r%20bit/bit.jpg</a>
  4. I've noticed that strats and tele's have the single coil pu angled at the bridge. what affect does that have on sound, and is there any reason you couldn't do it with a middle or neck position pu??
  5. This is my first build and I'm trying to figure out which bridge to buy based on cost, ( a combo bridge tail piece would be fine) and ease of installation etc. They all list a string spacing. My scale length is 25.5 with anut width of 1 and 5/8. If I stretch a couple of strings evenly spaced along the neck from the e string slots it seems to be about 2 1/8 but that doesn't match any of the string spacings listed in the stew-mack catalogue.
  6. Im building a guitar with a walnut drop top and a maple inlay. the top has some voids as well as some gaps in the inlay. how can I make a wood filler (probably using some saw dust and glue). I want it as invisible as possible. I've heard of people using hide glue as a poor filler but haven't found much info on it.
  7. This is my first electric guitar (i've built some dulcimers). I've been getting parts off ebay and have gotten some good deals but the neck i bought has a 1 5/8s nut not the standard 1 11/16. will this make a noticeable difference in playing? Also will it work with the strat type pickups I have or do those have to be narrower too?
