  1. I like Ihocky2's idea. Gives it a little bit of a custom look. I never did understand the sharp edge on the RR or the King V's anyway, way to easy to damage.
  2. The simplest thing I can think of for your headstock is to just take an 1/8th or a 1/16th of an inch off the end of it. Might seem kind of drastic to some people but shouldn't really be noticeable unless compared to another headstock side by side. It would give you 2 nice new corners at the top and bottom of the headstock.
  3. I'd like to see that. Any little bit of information helps in my book.
  4. I just looked up one of my Jackson's and it has the JT 580 trem on it. I have had this guitar for a little over a year and have never had any issues with the trem. My other Jackson is from the late 80's or early 90's and it has the Jackson trem and is stamped made in Germany by Schaller. The Schaller made trem does have a better feel to it though. I wonder when Jackson made the change??????
  5. At this point why don't you put whatever trem you want in it. Shouldn't be to hard to plug the old trem post holes and redrill new ones since you are refinishing it anyway. By the way, both my Jacksons trems have the same measurements as a Floyd Rose. I think they are actually made by Schaller under Floyd Rose licensing.
  6. It is necessary to calculate the neck angle in order to determine whether the instrument can be outfitted with a Floyd Rose. Set a straightedge on the center of the fingerboard and allow it to extend to the bridge. If the gap between the straightedge and the body exceeds 11/16", the instrument should not be outfitted with a Floyd Rose. I pulled this info off the Les Paul Forums. It's from luthier Denny Rauen.
  7. That Double V looks like its a back breaker. I bet it will have amazing tone though. I look forward to seeing these completed.
  8. Good to know this build is still alive. I look forward to some updates.
  9. Take that sweet oak guitar with you to test amps. I'm sure it will have incredible tone and sustain.
  10. I found this information on the ReRanch site. I'm in the process of trying to figure out how I am going to finish my Grizzly guitar kit and came across it. I hope its of some help to you. As I understand it water based dyes cant be used on sealed wood but an alcohol based dye can be sprayed over a sealer. The article states that Gibson and PRS use alcohol reduced dyes to tint their translucent finishes. Aniline Dyes
  11. There's nothing wrong with that neck that a little sanding and some tru-oil wont fix Seriously, I like the body design. I hope this turns out to be a playable instrument for you.
  12. I like the fretboard. The neck looks like it will be fast. Are the pickup routes for EMG's?
  13. How do you feel about softening the corners on the headstock to mimic the curves of the SG a little better??????
  14. I like that idea. It would help keep a "clean" look and would give you an opportunity to do a nice contour at the neck for easier access if you so choose.
  15. Incredible guitar body, I love the carving. I wasn't sure how I felt about the headstock at first but now that I have seen the neck on the body it's shape fits perfectly. Can't wait to see this one completed.
  16. I can't possibly name all the players that have influenced me but my tops are... Joe Satriani George Lynch Steve Vai Eddie Van Halen Yngwie Malmsteen John Petrucci Tony Macalpine and the list goes on and on....
  17. I looked around on these forums and didn't really find anything on airbrushing techniques. I did find this site that I thought might be useful to others. Hopefully I will be able to utilize some of these ideas on a future project. http://airbrushtricks.com/start/
  18. I like my Line 6 amp played through a 2x12 Celestion loaded cab. I've used it in all kinds of situations and have never had a problem with it. A couple of the factory presets on it can be noisy at times but make a great starting point for tweeking your own settings. I agree with wes though, don't trade in your old amp. Any time i have traded in an amp i have regretted it, same with any guitar I have owned. Guess I get to attached to my toys lol. BTW. My first post but I have been reading these forums for over a year now and I love the wealth of information here.
