  1. I promised to come back for some better photos. Sorry for digging up the thread. Thank you all again for your suppor. ps1: I finally managed to buy an amp, i've chosen a Peavey Vk 112, because somebody was selling it and vox ad30vt was really crappy ps2: I need/feel the need to build another one therefore i will invest this summer in some real wood cutting tools. You haven't seen the last of me! Happy to be here!
  2. user01: i used a rasp with really big teeth to shape the body and sanded after wards. There are many types of rasps (straight, thin, semi-circular). It can be done, and they're only 2 euros each i guess? For the cavities i used a drill with big things that you put in it's head, i think they're called router bits? Sorry not very good with technical english. After you've used a drill you can use some chisels to make straight edges. I recommend drilling the cavities first and the using a spokeshave to make the body bump (if you're gonna have one). Cheers! hope it helped.
  3. the shape is beautiful, the top too, i'm bookmarking this thread !
  4. hey guys, thanks for the answering, i recheced the connextion and indeed it was my fault. i soldered the white and green wires together, but forgot to solder them to ground , i soldered them to ground now and everything's ok . Thank you.
  5. Hello everybody, i did not want to start a new topic when there are so many good ones arround, but the problem is kind of strange. 1)About a week or two ago i completed my guitar and it sounded well, no unnecessary noise, everything very tight and well. However a wire broke loose because it was too tight in the cavity. I drilled the cavity a bit deeper and a friend of mine remade the electronics. 2) The electronics now sound just awfull, i have a lot of noise that is killing everything, i can barely hear the notes. The hot & ground wire on the output jack are not inversed (we tried that already). The circuit now is identical to the old one, why has it gone so wrong? specs: 2 humbuckers - Gibson Dirty Fingers + Seymour Duncan hotrails for strat 1 3 way switch 1 output jack. It's that simple and initially it gave me a close to noiseless sound, not it's killing my ears! Please help. I guess it's a problem with the ground, but i don't see why. later edit: the bridge is grounded, there is a wire from one of it's posts that leads to the back of the bridge pick-up (welded there on the ground placemarker). Then both pups ground wires are welded together and then to the selector switch, from there the wires go to the jack out. Is this correct? I don't understant why there's such a huge difference in sound. Will try it now with my computer closed down and let you guys know if anything happened. Cheers!
  6. Hey again guys! I've just bought a Vox ad30vt and it sounded great, until it died ! The sympthoms are as follow: 1) After a few minutes of use 5/10/15 (but not longer) it slowly dies, over a few secondes ~10, in which the sound just diminishes to 0. If i plug in my headset, i can hear the sound and effects without any problem, if i plug them out i can't hear anything from the speaker. 2) If i let it "cool down" for a few minutes, it works again, but it dies again after a few minutes! This is not right, i initially thought it might be the speaker, but now i think it's either the power level attenuator at the back (0.1-30 watts) or a transformer somewhere, after the power stage? I don't think the speaker has any problems. I'll take it back to the store on Monday i guess. This is unfortunate :-<, i just wanted to play ! Could you please help me out? I've looked it up on the web, but couldn't find any similar problems. I hope it's not my fault, the volume controls have never been higher that 9, and the power attenuator has been at an max ~20 watts, i've always started the amp with the master volume pot at 0. Is this a warranty issue? Thank you
  7. @ihocky2: Thank you! @Dean: Jah, you're right this time. I was actually thinking of building a pine guitar, but it seems so brittle, i would actually prefer hard wood over soft wood. As long as you get it, it shouldn't be hard Since 2007, when Romania is an EU member, more gates and opportunities have opened, so we're not at the end of the world anymore, just very close @feral smurf: Thank you man \m/ @Sand Paper: If i just buy a sound board for my PC, can i record? Or do i need an amplifier? Cheers guys! @guitarmaker: Whatever. Your atitude has proven the fact that you have a lot of hate in you, you could have corrected your initial post just by taking 5 minutes explaining the bad parts of the guitar, not by insulting and acting like a child. So, if you have anything to criticise, please do, as long as it's constructive, if not, please stay away from my thread.
  8. Hey guys, Everyone is allowed to have an oppinion. I am happy with the guitar i built, not necessary from a "quality" point of view, but from an "experience" one. This might as well be a one-time project, allthough i really am eager to start another, again, just for miself. Mister Guitarmaker, i am sorry to hear you do not like it, but it is your decision not too. As you are the only "official" guitar luthier from Romania (and i am ashamed to say it's name having into consideration that these last few posts have turned this thread into a cirkus, which i would not have wanted to be associated with our country). I am sure you could have expressed your negative feelings in private if you didn't have anything really important and productive to say. Guitarmaker is actually the builder/brander of my guitar neck that i got from my friend, i do not wish to make him negative publicity by saying his name/brand, but just so you understand the whole point. Mr. G, i do not wish to compete with you in building/selling guitars, because as i have said, this might have been a one-time project. Very nice way to "eliminate the so called competition". Very nice of you! Anyway, i am sorry everybody which by the way was very helpful, had to be "spectators" to this "mess" Thank you all again, and thank you guys that stood up for me. \m/ Respect. Cheers! R. lateredit: If the guitar sings, and it does, that does make European Oak a guitar wood. Just as MDF is.
  9. IT'S DONE. A friend of mine has just done the electronics, and it sounds like wow. It does have indeed an incredible tone and just the right amount of sustain. I will try to record something after i succeed in the aquisition of the amp. He has 2 guitars and some tube amps (the friend) and after he did the electronics we compared the guitar with his. And it certainly stands out, unfortunately the effect processor was a lousy zoom . The tone is full and sort of bright on the Dirty Fingers, not muddy at all as many say it is, and the neck pick-up is very good for rhythm, while the bridge pick-up, the seymour duncan is very very clear and "sharp" if i may say so, which is strange, since i've never seen this "effect" in a guitar before, i mean using the bridge pickup for lead . See you soon, and thank you for the tips n' tricks ! \m/
  10. Haha, in this case it's cheaper if i just buy it. Fine then, i'll go and test some amps and see which one suits my needs best. Thank you Dean
  11. My parents really like how it's turning out and they sort of accepted to give me half the money for an amplifier, i was thinking of Vox Valvetronix ad30vt, we can't allow ourselves much more for this thing. Is it a good decision? I want a good tone and a little bit of fatness, don't really care about the volume since i don't intend to play in a band or smtg. Sorry if my question is misplaced. Cheers!
  12. Your guitar just looks awesome. I really love the deep carve. The finish is turning out very beautiful aswell. Keep on it!
  13. almost there: later edit: This was one of my setups a few years ago, i still don't have a decent amp.
  14. @MexicanBreed: it was the only "able to work with and not too brittle" metal lying around. Wow, that top is incredible! Nope. Try somewhere NE from there, not too far not too close. @Vinny: Indeed, a router would have made my life a hell lot easier.
  15. Dean: haha, not even close, think more western Europe Damn man, thank you \m/. She's gonna be ready saturday evening, i drilled all the remaining holes today and sculpted the pick-up covers, right now they're drying after a wet coat of nitrolaquer. She will sing (hopefully she will sing pretty ). I'm sort of sad she's almost done, and i haven't got the time/resources to build another one, i'm starting to love this "luthier" business (not that i consider miself one) the process is really ... amazing. Being in the position of never have handcrafted something of this magnitude in my life, it's sad ending it, but "c'est la vie!". ________ Another Teaser. Warning: High Resolution ps": i wounde if I could build a nuclear reactor Will post new pictures when she's done. Also i might be able to do a photo shoot with it since a friend of mine has a really cool camera. We'll have to wait and see. Best of luck!
  16. oooh, sure, no problem, here's a short look. I couldn't find anywhere to cut steel so i used Duraluminium, still have to drill the screw holes. So, right not only the pick-up covers remain to be done. Oh joy oh joy. Don't see why it should work. I guess on mine the strings will soften up the metal, but just a bit and they won't bite into it. Backplate done: Looks better than it looks. FrontPlate done: Tools that really helped me on this project (my arm still hurts ): Also: Pantera tribute
  17. Some updates guys. Still needs work. The real one needs serious work too.
  18. @Dakhahn: Thank you, i've already did a quick setup a week or two ago and it's playable damn right, just right for shredding, i'm kind of used on the action being pretty high and this guitar is somewhere in a medium format, not too low and not too high, just how i like it. @Dean: \m/ Thanks man. @Cam: I've got string sockets for the back, but couldn't find anything suitable for the front. @MexicanBreed: Well jah, even if it's a hard wood, the strings will still bite. @Dean: Well i'm not quite Russian, but still from central-eastern Europe. , I'll let you guys guess where from. @Cam: If you wish to copy the guitar for your own purposes, go ahead! It's Open share i guess, as long as i get to name the shape. @MexicanBreed: Sincerely thank you man, those are some kind words. I really wanted to do this thing, I have a sort of feeling of being able to do a lot more now. It's also been a very educative process. @Dean: Thanks again man @StormLeader: Yep. Hopefully i will find some sort of blacksmith around here Right now i'm working on the 3d model of the guitar, still work in progress - 3dsMax/ clay render, will soon be textured and will do the light setup. Still has a few glitches and some light bleeding but will be fixed when new updates are available.
  19. @Cam: ofcourse that not her neck I'm not that of an idiot to break it like that... well.. hmm. Sooo ferrules are what they're called? Couldn't find anything similar in my country and whoever i asked couldn't answer me about where could i buy such stuff. I am going to cut a piece of steel and drill some holes in in to accomodate the strings. Sorry again for my poor english. Cheers everybody... she's almost done.
  20. I hope so too. I think i damaged it when i tried to remove the neck. Looks cool like this... some sort of 3d fretless fretboard.
  21. Haha, it worked, still work in progress, but i love how it's turning out.
  22. somewhere around 240 i guess or 320, one of them, but i'm kinda running out of sandpaper. 400 is good to know
  23. Hey again guys, sorry for being a brat but i need to ask, a few days ago i found a can of Nitro Laquer, well bought it on the "black market" as you might call it, pretty cheap 3$. I just applied the first hand of laquer and it was mostly absorbed by wood, still has a small coat around it, but it's pretty thin. i couldn't find any wood sealer so i had to skip that part. What should i do now? Sand it down with ~120 grit sandpaper, or more, and reapply? Thank you. Sorry for dumb questions, it's just that i don't want to mess up anything and don't want to start a new thread. Cheers!
  24. Hi guys, sorry for my absence, but i though that it's betterr to do more work and less talk . It's been a bit hard here in this place finding transparent wood glue (to fill one of the bridge post holes) and remake some calculations in order to drill the other good one. I've replaced the bridge, seemes it was about 1.5 cm away from where it should have been. HaHa. Also for the first time i've connected the guitar to my pc and did a corect setup (so it works, intonation is alright and such, but i figure i have to lower string height on the treble side- it's a bit too high - 2/3 mm). Still need to sand down the old hole. There are a few frets where it doesn't get very well in tune. especially on the higher frets, but i guess that's ok for now. Now, to reply each one of you guys : @chops1983: Thanks man, you've been a real help, i did as you said, well, mostly. @SJE-Guitars: Yep, that's what "mostly" mean in the reply to chops. @Southpa: It's a perspective error, i find it looking odd too, but it's correct. I share your thoughts about the string through holes. First of all i need to build something to cover the wood where they exit the body, couse they'rer slowly eating through wood. Next i could build a sort of cilinder and put it behind the bridge and the strings will pass through under it. Will see about that after i play it a little (it's been a while since i've owned a guitar, i had to sell my vintage hollowbody in order to buy a wacom intous tablet ) I guess it looks a bit "homemade" ), but i've used 80 grit paper in progression towards 320, oak is very hard. This one especially. @psw: after more calculations, the bridge is actually good for this neck, don't know what i did wrong the first time i placed the bridge, guess a string on it would have been usefull. @Ad_Astra: Really sweet looking guitar and hardware. Happy building! Thank you guys once again and Thank you PG Forum! Will post updates asap.
